I have been getting the message "The fish are biting on crow flies" when fishing Rainbow Trout. Might want to add those to the fished list.

Also, Black Ghosts in grade 3 fishing nodes seem to like the crow flies better than Chocobo. River crabs will bite on them too.

Edit2: Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish seem to be attracted to Crow Fly while fishing in fresh water in East Thanalan Grade 2 area. The message "something big hits your line" comes up at short intervals when the fighting fish bites.
