Seeing the Seers

Premise:

The sentry Kinnison, who stands watch before the Lotus Stand is concernced over the well-being of the Seedeers - Gridania's three wood-wandering sages. He requests that you call upon five townspeople who may well have seen or heard from them in recent days. Visit the individuals and learn what you can.

"Beyond here lies the Lotus Stand, where the three Seedseers hold counsel. They are rarely to be found here, however, as their days are spent in the forest, hearkening to the whispers of the elementals. But the past moons have seen a rise in the number of Garlean agents stealing into the Twelveswood. More than ever, I fear for the safety of the Seedseers. Would you do me a kindness, adventurer? There are five souls who may be able to set my mind at ease. Might you call upon them and ask if they have seen or had word from the Seers?"

"I shall mark the locations of these five forestborn on your map. They, too, are known for wandering the Twelveswood. If any have seen the Seers, it is they. It is not easily that I ask this of you, friend. By all rights, the task should be my own. But I am charged with the protection of the Seedseers here in Gridania and may not leave my post, lest they return in my absence."

Talk to Sybell near the Aetheryte

"Aye, a Seedseer spoke to me in the wood not a few moons past. Asked that we bolster Gridania's vigil, he did─both within the city and without. He also made mention of you adventurers and your growing numbers. From what I could gather, it would seem the Seers are worried that your constant comings and goings present an open invitation to imperial agents to slip through our borders. He spoke of the distant past, too─some thousand years and more ago. Ominous talk of the sixth Umbral Era, and how it almost brought about an end to all things."

"Legends tell of a great Seedseer from that time who formed what came to be called the Grand Companies. Rallied souls from all across the realm, they did, and dragged Eorzea back from the brink. Huh, I bet it'd do the Seers good to see us all banding together like that again..."

Talk to Mestonaux at the Botanist's Guild

"I often see RayaOSenna when returning from my labors in the field. It is humbling to think that she and the other Seedseers toil ceaselessly in the service of us Gridanians. It seems these days she is taken with worry over the possibility of open war with the Garleans. She has been urging all of us to store provisions and herbs of healing should it come to that. Still, my worry is whether such stores could properly be distributed amidst the chaos of war. In stories of old, mention is often made of the Grand Companies─the archetypal institutions of each of Eorzea's great nations. If only we had something of a similar nature, such petty logistical difficulties need never thwart us. I suppose the days of peace when such thoughts were not necessary are now behind us."

Talk to Khuma Moshroca at the Leatherworker's Guild

"The Seedseers? Why, yes, KanESenna came to my aid in the wood not a few days past. The mere recollection is enough to send shiverrrs down my spine. The earth and trees all around were gripped by a violent shaking, which threw the forest life into a state of great unrest. As though sensing my distress, KanESenna appeared by my side. She told me the tremors were the work of the Empire's flying monstrosities overhead, and they were more numerous of late. If the Garleans see fit to set upon Gridania with all their might..."

"No... No, we must not give in to despair. We will defy them to the last. All of Gridania─together. The Grand Companies of old were composed not merely of swordsmen and sorcerers. People of all stations and talents took part in the alliance, and it was their combined effort that guided them to victory. So will it be when next our way of life is threatened. Unity will see us through adversity. And the Seedseers will lead us, with the guidance of the elementals."

Talk to Lefwynne Near the Ebony/Rosewood Stalls

"Aye've seen one of the Seers. Shames me to say, but she scolded me for dallying about in the wood. Looking for seeds, I was, but she said we can't afford to be off guard no more, what with the Garleans about as they are. But if there's to be hostilities, there bloody well will be a need for stuff like seeds─and a lot more besides. And Twelve know Gridania ain't got the gil to wage war against the Empire. That's why I proposed we merchants start gathering together and forming...well, a company of sorts. There's none better placed than us to see weapons and supplies get where they need going. Just like the Grand Companies of old! I want peace as much as the next man, but business is business. Truth be told, more than a few of us merchants have already banded together and started looking for new opportunities wherever they might be."

Talk to Nellaure at the Carpenter's Guild

"As it happens, I saw one of the Seedseers while I was foraging for timber not long ago. It was ARuhnSenna, sure as my nameday. He had his hands against the bark of one of the forest giants. Never have I seen a face so stern and beset by worry. I knew at once that he was conversing with the elementals on the subject of the Empire. Even one such as I is not blind to the forest's unrest before the threat of Garlemald, you see. But will it truly come to war? If so, there will be such a clamor for every kind of bow and arrow, lance and spear, that I fear we will lack the materials to make them all. There is little enough quality timber to be had as it stands. I even turned to the annals to learn of how the Grand Companies of old dealt with a similar situation over a thousand years ago. It seems they strictly regulated all stages of production, from provisioning to fashioning. Such a system would certainly make it easier for us crafters to concentrate on our work."

If you feel at home here, friend, then I urge you to stay. Train hard and prepare yourself, that you might answer the call of the Seedseers when it comes. For come it will."

You obtain a bottle of kiss of the morning meadow.
