Dialogue

Spoiler Alert: The exact transcript follows below.

The Adder's Nest

Fulke: Ah, Private Third Class (surname), you come at a most opportune time. I was just about to send for you, to discuss a mission of considerable gravity.

Fulke: Mayhap you have heard of the fellowship that was the driving force behind our organization's revival. Well, the leader of this group happens to be sojourning in Gridania at this very moment, a wise man named Louisoix Leveilleur.

Fulke: He comes to us from a remote island far to the north, where he has devoted himself to the mastery of all knowledge. 'Tis said there is no subject in the world in which he is unversed.

Fulke: And now he graces us with his presence, traveling long malms and risking countless perils that we might avail ourselves of his knowledge on how to defeat the primals.

Fulke: Elder Seedseer KanESenna has already held audience with Louisoix, following which she declared that Gridania will offer to join with the Ul'dahns in a joint strike against Ifrit, the primal of fire.

Fulke: In so doing, an alliance might be established with the sultanate-one that will hopefully come to encompass Limsa Lominsa in time. Such is the will of Kan-E-Senna and the Circle of Knowing.

Fulke: And now we come to your role in this. Your task, Private Third Class, will be to assist Louisoix directly. Our guest is an elderly Elezen gentleman. Meet with him at Apkallus Falls, and attend well his every word, that you might arm yourself with the knowledge to overcome Ifrit.

Fulke: Be warned, however, that primals are not opponents to be taken lightly-one man alone cannot hope to defeat the Lord of the Inferno. You must hand-pick your most trusted companions and with them form a party of four for the battle.

Fulke: Further, barring exceptional circumstances, we ask that you seek the aid of none but those sworn to the Order of the Twin Adder. If the secret to vanquishing primals is known only to our organization, the other nation states will be all the more likely to enlist our aid, bringing KanESenna's dream of a threenation alliance that much closer to being.

Fulke: Now, we are not unmindful that such constraints render an already onerous mission that much more difficult. As such, we are prepared to offer you an incentive by way of further rewards. Only parties consisting of four Disciples of War or Magic with a level of 25 or above will be permitted to battle the primal Ifrit.

Fulke: Your mission is a crucial first step towards realizing the Elder Seedseer's dream of a threenation alliance. My thanks, Private Third Class, and may the Twelve speed your way.

Apkallus Falls

Louisoix: (name)(surname), I presume. Right glad am I to behold at last the valiant adventurer of whom Papalymo has spoken so oft.

Louisoix: Pray allow me to introduce myself. My name is Louisoix Leveilleur, and it is my honor to preside over the Circle of Knowing.

Louisoix: You are yet unfamiliar with our collective, I think. If it please you, the fellowship was formed in Sharlayan, great seat of learning. Ever since our founding, we have endeavored to archive all extant knowledge, that man might learn of his origin and destiny both.

Louisoix: 'Tis our firmly held belief that knowledge is power-specifically, the power to realize a better future. To this end, my fellows and I-your friend Papalymo included-have come to Eorzea that we might enlighten her peoples as to what lies ahead.

Louisoix: Mayhap you have also crossed paths with Urianger, yet another of our circle. In which case, I must crave your pardon if his mannerism strikes you as outlandish. 'Tis not his intent to confound folk with cryptic words. You see, the man has seen much more of tomes than he has of the world. I assure you, though, that his heart is in the right place. Ah, but permit me to return to the subject matter at hand.

Louisoix: Just now I made mention of Eorzea's future. But first I must speak of the past, for that which is to come was ever the product of that which has been.Ten years ago, an event took place which shook the very foundation of Eorzea: a tribe of beasts summoned forth a primal. So began the spread of summoning till there was not a tribe in this world to whom the practice remained unknown.

Louisoix: Alas, they paid no heed to the consequences of its use. You see, in order to remain in our plane of existence, a primal must needs devour prodigious amounts of aether-the energy bound in crystals and at large throughout all creation.

Louisoix: Consequently, the land is slowly but surely being drained of its aether, and the day fast approaches when the fount will run dry. Should that happen, what then?

Why, all life in Eorzea will end. Even as we speak, the land bleeds, with every passing moment another ilm closer to death. And die it surely will-unless we purge it of its blight. Aye, I speak of the primals.

Louisoix: It is to bring about their downfall that I have journeyed to Eorzea. Ifrit, fell primal of the Amalj'aa, shall be the first. I should welcome your help in this.

Louisoix: Forgive me if I seem brusque or presumptuous, but time is not on our side. I require that you procure an echo crystal for each of the six cardinal elements. These crystals have unique reverberative properties, and are yielded only by creatures possessed of an indomitable spirit in life.

Louisoix: Take from me this receptacle, into which the crystals must be placed. Once all six are present, each will begin to resonate with the others, giving birth at last to a new power whose application I shall explain when the time is right.

Louisoix: Now, I have taken the liberty of identifying your quarries. All are creatures of preternatural ferocity, and none will be bested lightly.

Louisoix: The first you will find northwest of Camp Bloodshore in eastern La Noscea. A roseling known by the name of Barometz, it is aligned with the element of wind.

Louisoix: The second beast also makes its home near Camp Bloodshore, but to the southeast. The people there call it Slippery Sykes, an endearing name for a voracious man-eating slug, I'm sure you'll agree. Its affinity is with water.

Louisoix: Third, we have the nest commander, an especially savage antling that prowls the area northwest of Camp Horizon in western Thanalan. Its element is earth.

Louisoix: Your next quarry is also seen near Camp Horizon, but to the west. A puk called Pyrausta, it is a creature of lightning.

Louisoix: Fifth, we have Queen Bolete, a monarch among funguars, whose element is ice. She holds court southwest of Camp Tranquil in the Twelveswood.

Louisoix: The last is the jackanapes, a fire-aligned primate who prowls the patch of forest southeast of Camp Tranquil.

Louisoix: These are the six creatures you must seek out and put down. It matters not the order in which you hunt them, but I urge you to spare no preparation, lest the hunter become the hunted. To make absolutely certain that naught is left to chance, you might consider forming a party of four.

The Black Shroud

Jackanapes, (45, 51), Fire Echo Crystal

Queen Bolete, (36, 50), Ice Echo Crystal

Western Thanalan

Nest Commander, (11, 25), Earth Echo Crystal

Pyrausta, (8, 30), Lightning Echo Crystal

Eastern La Noscea

Barometz, (35, 17), Wind Echo Crystal

Slippery Sykes, (38, 25), Water Echo Crystal

Obtain the 6 crystal echos.

Apkallu Falls

Louisoix: It gladdens me to see you returned, (name), and bearing the echo crystals, no less. 'Tis plain that their power has opened your eyes to the aetherial gate beside me.

Louisoix: You may labor to believe it, but this aetherial gate has always been present─aye, even when you first paid me visit. It was merely veiled from your sight.

Louisoix: There exist objects in the world, you see, that lie beyond the plane of mortal perception. Only by overleaping the boundaries of our senses can such objects be made manifest.

Louisoix: This metaphysical leap may be made via a variety of means, the echo crystals you hold being central to one of them. Indeed, it is they that are responsible for the apparent “appearance” of this particular aetherial gate.

Louisoix: As you are able to see it, so too are you able to traverse it. Ah, but we're not quite ready to step through just yet.Would be so kind as to lend me your six echo crystals?

Louisoix: From these, (name), I shall create for you a harmonizing crystal. Think of it as a key of sorts for entering the aetherial gate.

Louisoix: With this on your person, you will be able to enter Ifrit's sanctuary, the Bowl of Embers. Ah, but if you expect to find the primal already there and lounging about, I fear you will be met with disappointment.

Louisoix: You must needs first summon forth Ifrit, an act which requires the Inferno Flambeau. It serves to kindle a magical flame, you see, which acts as a beacon toward which the Lord of the Inferno may bend his course.

Louisoix: The Amalj'aa Voidtongue Ahzabb Chah is famed as the first of his tribe to summon Ifrit. If there is one among them who holds the Inferno Flambeau, it can be none other than he. You will find him in western Thanalan, in the vicinity of Nophica's Wells.

Louisoix: Suffice to say, Ahzabb Chah will require considerable persuasion to relinquish guardianship over his tribe's sacred relic. I rather doubt a single Amalj'aa will present much of a challenge to a man who but recently slew six lords among beasts, yet for the sake of prudence, you might consider assembling a party of four for this task.

You obtain a harmonizing crystal.

Nophica's Wells

Kill Voidtongue Ahzabb Chah. (18, 37) You obtain Inferno Flambeau.

Apkallu Falls

Louisoix: Your jubilant countenance can only mean one thing: you have returned with the Inferno Flambeau. My congratulations, (name).

Louisoix: Now naught stands between you and a reckoning with Ifrit. Before you rush headlong into the fiery jaws of danger, however, I would give you some words of counsel, that you might be better prepared for the coming struggle.

Louisoix: Your adversary is a god at best, and a demon at worst. You will want to assemble a band of your most stalwart companions for this encounter, lest you imperil both yourself and Eorzea's precious hopes of survival.

Louisoix: Be warned also that primals radiate a malign energy which has a corrupting influence upon mortal minds. For your own safety, I shall employ my magicks to extricate you and yours should I deem the struggle has persisted overlong.

Louisoix: Nor shall I permit you to confront Ifrit again until such time as your body has purged itself of the primal's taint. You must be fully rested and clear of mind to attempt this feat.

Louisoix: Commit my counsel to memory, for you will needs abide by it if you are to have the faintest hope of prevailing. Make now any preparations you deem needful, then speak with me once more.

Speak with Louisoix once more to enter the Bowl of Embers.

Bowl of Embers

Louisoix: Behold the fate of they who went before you. Not a single mortal who has bared steel before Ifrit has come out the victor. Let this be a grave reminder of the arduousness of your task.

Louisoix: Attend me, (name). Though all things happen for a reason, it falls to each individual to find meaning in that which comes to pass.

Louisoix: In this case, the message is painfully clear: hubris is as much your enemy as the foe who stands before you. Anything less than complete focus upon the task at hand, and you will be made to pay the selfsame price as these poor fools. If you understand this and still wish to proceed, hand me the Inferno Flambeau.

Louisoix: Now, step through the gate, (name). Beckoned by the flame of the Inferno Flambeau, the primal Ifrit shall descend.

Louisoix: The mind is a powerful thing─by its influence alone, one man will stand while another will fall. Today it will determine who is consigned to history: Ifrit, or you and yours. Be calm and unclouded of mind, and you may yet prevail.

Defeat Ifrit.

Nael Van Darnus: Bravo, bravo. Truly a performance worthy of song.

Nael Van Darnus: I would know the name of the hero who dares defy a god.

A. Tell him your name B. Refuse to tell him

Nael Van Darnus: (name)(surname)... A name I shan't soon forget. Allow me to return the favor. I am Nael van Darnus, Legatus of the VIIth Imperial Legion. I come bearing the light of salvation to the people of Eorzea.

Nael Van Darnus: It warms my heart to know that there are still those who would attempt to preserve life upon this forsaken continent. And by the blood of fallen eikons, no less.

Nael Van Darnus: A noble struggle, I grant you, but one that is sadly beyond hope. Alone, you stand no chance of survival. None. If you are to prevail, you must needs accept the outstretched hand of salvation─the hand of the Garlean Empire.

Nael Van Darnus: I know full well your people see the Empire as little more than a covetous beast, hungry for territory. But naught could be further from the truth. The world is stricken by an evil blight, her peoples given to despair. Seeing this, the Empire was moved with pity. It reached out to the other nations, bringing them under its wing that they might know deliverance.

Nael Van Darnus: For ours is the radiance that shall banish the darkness that threatens to engulf the land. Embrace the light, son of the South, and your progeny shall live to see a brighter tomorrow.

Nael Van Darnus: ...Yet know that the light is unbending, its judgment absolute. By its illumination, all is laid bare─the world revealed in truest form.

Nael Van Darnus: The bold shall inherit the world, and the beautiful shall rule it! So has the light decreed, and so it must be!

Nael Van Darnus: Only then shall the land be free of chaos!

Nael Van Darnus: Ne'er till land consumes sun can sea bear moons, Heavens spew crimson flame, hells seep black dooms.

Nael Van Darnus: I see these words are lost upon you. That the children of this land should have grown up ignorant of the sacred prophecies of yore...

Nael Van Darnus: The slumbering emperors of old Allag are surely turning in their graves.

Nael Van Darnus: But I will not blame you for your forefathers' negligence. Permit me to explain it as I might to a child of Garlemald.

Nael Van Darnus: Naught is eternal. Nay, not even the dance of the stars upon the celestial sea. The hour of reckoning is at hand. Soon the crimson star shall descend, and the land shall be purged of its taint.

Nael Van Darnus: Oh, but what manner of foul shadow will the unredeemed souls of your countrymen cast by the light of judgment!? The mere imagining of it cuts me to the quick.

Apkallus Falls

Louisoix: Is...is it true what you say? That the aether spilled forth from the land, and the aetherial gate was severed entirely? Twelve be good...I would know all that transpired, (name). Pray spare no detail.

Louisoix: So Nael van Darnus himself appeared...? That he would so callously sever the

flow of aether─no man of sound mind would contemplate such wickedness! More troubling still is the fact that he had the means to do it at all. It would seem the Empire has acquired a terrible new weapon.

Louisoix: Yet we have a more pressing issue to consider: the land has been divested of its aether. If Ifrit was somehow able to absorb that energy, he will grow powerful beyond reckoning.

Louisoix: We failed to put an end to Ifrit, to destroy the primal's body and soul both that he might never rise again.

Louisoix: But we have not the luxury of conceding defeat. The fate of the world is at stake, and we must fight on until such time as the crystals nourish the land once more.

Louisoix: Ifrit grows ever more powerful, and the scales have tipped far against us. It will take nothing short of a miracle to vanquish him...yet we must try.

Louisoix: I shall return to the tomes, there to search for knowledge that may avail us. In the meantime, I ask that you, too, devote yourself to seeking a means to best this foe.

The Adder's Nest

Fulke: Congratulations, Private Third Class (surname)! That was a fine show you put on against Ifrit. Never for a moment did I doubt that you would succeed.

Fulke: You are to be commended also for relying only upon your comrades within the Order of the Twin Adder. Elder Seedseer KanESenna will be most pleased.

Fulke: As promised, you will be furnished with an additional sum on top of the standard reward. Once again, well done.

Fulke: In no small part due to your exploits, we have taken the first step towards establishing an alliance with Ul'dah. I knew I was not mistaken in assigning this task to you.

Fulke: Hmm? Are you feeling unwell? You have the look of one who bears a heavy burden. Come, tell me what troubles you.

Fulke: Legatus Nael van Darnus of the VIIth Imperial Legion!? That the White Raven himself would set foot in Ifrit's lair...

Fulke: And he gave you reason to believe that Dalamud's blood-red hue is the Empire's doing?

Fulke: But...how is that even possible? We're speaking of Dalamud, the lesser moon that has existed on high since time immemorial!

Fulke: Then again, perhaps it is not so unlikely... The Garleans have long possessed the power to make gigantic masses of iron soar the skies. If any on Hydaelyn are capable of calling Dalamud to heel, it is they.

Fulke: This recalls to my mind a disquieting report I heard of the Seedseer Council held the evening past by moonlight. The elementals were said to have been in a state of heightened agitation. Some were frightened, others enraged.

Fulke: At the time, none could shed any light on what may have upset the elementals so. Now I wonder if it wasn't something the Empire did to Dalamud.

Fulke: But I will not indulge in idle speculation─the Elder Seedseer must be informed of this development posthaste. We can only pray that the time for action is not yet past.

Fulke: My thanks once more for your outstanding service, Private Third Class. In delivering to us this crucial piece of intelligence, you have gone above and beyond the call of duty. I hope we can count on your loyal support for a long time to come.
