Can anyone confirm whether these newbie armor quests were indeed added during Luclin?

If memory serves, these came in between Pop and LoY (or with LoY). I can't be absolutely sure of that, though.

ETA: I can assert that on Phinney that Luclin EXPAC did NOT open up the halfling cleric armor quests.

I'm showing some of these quests have forum posts from as early as May 2002. I'm wondering if they were all added at the same time or some of those quests were added later on.

Way back when Everquest started, your first armor was either dropped, or made with tradeskills – banded armor, silk, or made from ruined cat (or bear) hides. As you levelled, there were certain items that were known to be good for your class, until eventually you ended up gearing from raids.
When Luclin was released, the new class, beastlord, had a set of quested (non-tradeskill) armor, but they were the only ones. Other Vah Shir had the quested Ghulam set, and some rewards (weapons) from tradeskill quests.
Then, some time later, after Luclin had been out a while, and starting before Planes of Power, most races and classes were given what has become known as newbie armor quests. These faked the involvement of trade skills, and so most of the quests were written up on EQTraders. But EQTraders eventually decided that these weren’t really tradeskills, and so stopped updating them. Plus some races didn’t have any of these quests (Vah Shir), and new classes for a race didn’t always have them – frogloks, after the move to Rathe Mountains, in particular.
So far, the exceptions are all beastlords, which only had their Luclin quests, and all Vah Shir, apart from berserkers.

Thanks Larth. I'm thinking the link I posted is just a collection of newbie quests that were added over several expansions. It will take some research to figure out which expansion each set are from.

I remember the newbie quests were added in one particular expansion ( can't remember which one though. Damn, I hate getting older. Smiley: smile). It was definitely after Luclin though. I started playing just after the release of the Luclin expansion. I did all of the newbie armour quests when they came out. First and only times I have created and played Halfling chars.

As my grandfather used to say, it's better than the alternative!

They were added piecemeal, to my recall.

My understanding as to why they were flagged PoP on progression servers is that was when the Dev team felt they were "meant" to be put in and were historically tuned to. This doesn't mean some of them weren't in game before the original PoP launch, thereby making them "late Luclin". During the Vulak/Fippy progression launch these were live early and the weapons were modified to adjust by era as a result.

Further, I recall some of them being unfinished for years. In the example of the Inny worshipping frogloks it was many years before the quests were properly implemented, though I believe the rest of the quests were fixed/finished before the move to Rathe created this gap.

The Phinny server decision to allow the tutorial to drop a later version of its armor with PoP era was an odd one, as it made these quests moot for anyone that could do the tutorial... Newbie armor becomes quested for those teen+ that preexisted PoP launch there... kind of weird (maybe should have reflagged all of it for Luclin era if going to allow that then?
