Just thought i'd share a learning experience i had 'bout a week ago in the game:

I was making a run to Selbina to trade some moss that i had just farmed. After i zoned into Valkurm from the town, a large amount of ppl came running with trains in tow. No surprise there. I didn't have anything on schedule, and some of my ls mates were there, so i hung around for a little while helping out/showing off by killing trained mobs.

Just for kicks, i decided to really show off by using Eagle Eye Shot on one of the mobs. Hit for 1000-something damage (yey), and i was feeling quite high and mighty in front of the lvl 14 guys. It would come back to haunt me though.

More to the point, i started making my way back to Jeuno through Konschtatt Highlands. Did a casual wide scan and lo-and-behold, there was Steelfleece himself. I sprinted to the marker, and sure enough, there he was, with a slew of high and low levels alike all in close (but not too close) pursuit. A few of the high level guys, all around 50-60's, had allied up, and charged it. Not wanting to be left out of the fun, i begged for an invite.

Got the invite, and started the battle. I felt a little bit at a disadvantage, since i was using my thf sub (from farming) and had nothing on me but iron arrows (also for farming). No big deal, i thought. After all, i wasn't planning on being targeted during the fight. So i keep blasting away, as a couple high levels traded the difficult job of tanking it using Utsusemi.

It sure looked like we had it in the bag. Steelfleece was down to about 400-500 hp i'd wager, when suddenly our tank went down. Not sure what went wrong, but it wasn't a huge surprise. Another ranger took the hate, but he didn't last more than 15 seconds. It ended up coming down to me and a drg as the last two in Steelfleece's way. But we were almost there!

As i'm scanning my menu's, Steelfleece, finished with every other target, turns 180 degrees and centers his attention on me.

(I think my entire dorm hallway heard me yell "OH ****")

I'm frantic now....I go for every desperation move i've got.
Not enough TP for a weaponskill....no luck there. My HP is dropping fast. I bring up my job abilities menu....no barrage. Thats ok, i've always got my trump card....Eagle Eye Shot will finish this overgrown sheep once and for all....

oh....no....

Eske was defeated by Steelfleece

and the moral of the story is.....
