PUP: Most unappreciated job?Follow

#1 Jul 24 2009 at 8:07 AM Rating: Default
Hey guys.
I just wanted to discuss with you what I think is a major problem right now in the FFXI community.

I'll just come right out with it. I am so freakin' sick of everyone ragging on PUPs.
People are always making jokes, saying stuff like PUP "shouldn't join their parties", or SAM and DRG are "better" damage dealers.

Listen up douches, because I'm going to give you the facts right now.
There is no BETTER job. There is only better PLAYERS.

I have a lot of PUP friends so this an issue that affects me on a more personal level.
My current social LS even started out as PUP-only.

People are constantly talking **** on PUP but the fact is that there are way more good PUPs than there are good any other job.

This because PUPs CARE about their job and DO something about it.

In fact, I was just in a merit PT with my best friend who happens to be a PUP the other day.
He's beating the **** out of birds with his full Usukane set and our SAM still had the nerve to ask if he had a different job that he could change to. Lmao? Okay, I don't use parsers but I know for a FACT that my friend was doing more damage than that SAM.

So he was going all emo and ended up leaving and we replaced him with our other PUP friend. It was still pretty respectable EXP, too. LIKE NO WAI.
Except yes, it was. People just don't realize the potential that PUP has.
A proper geared PUP can arguably be better than any other DD in the game.

Here's the thing. You guys listening?

Every other damage dealer or bard or whatever job in the game who just gets invites like nothing, they don't realize what PUPS ARE GOING THROUGH.

This is why PUPs are so good. They are constantly pimping themselves out to show everyone that they aren't gimp like people want to think.
It's like ever since the other pet jobs got fixed everyone thinks they need a new pet job to pick on. Well you need to stop. Everyone is equal here. If anything PUP is the best job in the game.
I'm sorry but I'm just really pissed off right now.

Discuss. someone please tell me WHY the PUPs are getting so much ******* **** and why you think you're better when you clearly are NOT.

are there damage up there, no doubt, problem in many cases comes down to the survivability of the puppet, people dont want to take the chance that one aoe, one mistimed ws and the puppet gets killed and the pup can be without 40%+ of his dmg for 2o mins.

this is something SE needs to fix, but just ignores. the puppet has rediculously lousy defense.

Well all that hatred people had for drg way back when had to go somewhere. I have partied with both good and bad pup and good and bad of pretty much every job put there. As long as the person knows their job then they will kick *** at it. Like you said, it all comes down to caring about your job enough to be the best you can at it. I have loved drg since I started playing 5 years ago and got nothing but flak for it. ***** everyone else and do what you love and ignore the morons. That's my 2cents

edit: spelling

Oh, I'm sure it stems from this post in your other thread:

On topic: Well played and geared Pups do fine in numerous events. Not everything, obviously. Pup isn't a zerg job for instance. The players who Lol at pup generally haven't seen a decent one in action.

Off topic: Deadgye. What the fuck.

The ironic thing is, he lost that doing a thread about how he was a BRD and everyone should treat him as a superior job.

Rewrote(doesn't feel like an actual word, but it is apparently) this three times now, but my actual feeling towards this, ignoring the kind of wall o' text I was going to post, is just lol.

You really thought this was going to work?

"X Job is really good and you should feel bad for thinking otherwise!" posts used to work, and if you had done this two years ago, you might be back to scholar(I'm not putting any meaning behind scholar, sage, whatever, just that its the whole point of the OP). But it's far to late now. Also, you came back WAY to early. Your princess rant was what, two days ago?

I don't usually enjoy forum posts anymore, but this is just great.

EDIT: I don't think the attempt itself even deserves a positive number, but the sheer ballsyness and idiocy in thinking this would actually work is a 10/10 in my book.

Also, in before "I waz just trolling"

PUP does have its problems. The AI for the mage frame is kind of wonky, casting -na spells over cures while the master is at extremely low hp and stuff like that. Even the, that's only encountered while soloing or acting as a healer for the party. The Valoredge and Sharpshot frames have little room for improvement, AI wise.

Automatons do have very low defense, since the only thing that's actually giving them a defense stat is their VIT and armor plate attachments, however equipping armor plates takes up slots that could be used for better attachments.

A Lv.75 Valoredge Automaton has more HP than a Galka MNK, however it has less defense than a naked Taru SMN. All it takes is a few errant hits or a strong AoE to kill an Automaton.

Good PUPs know how to use attachments and maneuvers to mitigate that weakness to an extent. Good PUPs. That's the kicker. PUP is not an easy job to be good at. There's a lot involved in using proper maneuvers, gear, attachment combination, and job abilities in the middle of a fight. It's not the job itself that gives it a bad name, it's the people that play it without making an effort to be good at it. Example.

Had a merit pt the other day on my DRK that had a PUP in it. Being a PUP myself I know how hard it is to get pt invites for merits, so I decided I'd give this guy a chance. He showed up to Colibri camp wearing full AF, Monapolas, no back piece or earrings, DEX rings, life belt, and full timed a Buffoon's collar. Reading that, any good PUP would should be gritting their teeth. Then he activated his Automaton, set up with Spiritreaver mage frame. For anyone that doesn't know about PUP, this frame is pretty much a BLM Automaton that tosses nukes and enfeebles onto the mob. Anyone knows that nuking Colibri is already a bad idea, anyone except this PUP. I called him on it and told him not to use that frame, but he resisted saying he needed to skill up his magic skill. I advised him that if he didn't change his frame he'd lose his spot in the party. He changed to Sharpshot, but it only took him about 10 seconds from when he deactivated until he reactivated. That's important because it tells me that he didn't equip any attachments, or at least only a couple. Good PUPs are cursing right now. Once we engaged the first mob, this PUP spent half the fight setting his automaton up away from the mob. I called him on it and he said he was putting at the RNG sweet spot. Good PUPs have gone to Defcon 1 and are outfitting their Automatons for war. For those of you that don't know about PUP, the Sharpshot frame's ranged attacks aren't like regular ranged attacks. They actually have better accuracy and damage as you get closer to the mob, as in melee range. A melee Sharpshot frame can put out a ton of damage, leaving it in the backline to do nothing but ranged attacks significantly reduces TP gain and DoT.

Basically, this PUP took the ******* manual and threw it out the window. He made every single mistake that a PUP could make, and he was lv.75 to boot. This is why PUP has such a bad name. It's not because the job is faulty, it's because the player base at large doesn't understand the job, and many of the people who play the job don't even understand the job.

DRK used to be a lol job because wrongly thought we had horrible accuracy. Turns out that was usually because of poor gear and no food. DRG was considered a lol job because way way way back in the day TP gain from WS was nerfed and they couldn't spam penta anymore. Both were also during a time when all parties went for IT++ mobs, taking forever to kill them and only making 2-3k exp an hour. People are a little bit wiser about those two jobs, however PUP is still a mystery to most people. Since most people have never pt'd with a good PUP, they consider the job to be subpar. That's why we have a bad name.

Is this a social experiment to see how fast you can get the whole community against you? I've seen you picking or trying to pick fights for a while now, and I really wonder what you're trying to do.

Anyway, best of luck with whatever you're doing.

First off, lol @ your attempt of getting scholar back (like it even matters to begin with).

Secondly, I'll explain why I wouldn't rate this up anyways.

Quote:

It's like ever since the other pet jobs got fixed everyone thinks they need a new pet job to pick on. Well you need to stop. Everyone is equal here. If anything PUP is the best job in the game.

Everyone isn't equal. There are great players and not so great players. There is no best job in the game, so you're not going to win people over by stating your opinion as if it were a fact. There are plenty of people that play PUP very well. Likewise, there are plenty of people that play SAM or DRG poorly. I don't judge jobs, just the players. If you're getting picked on for your performance, well, I don't think it just has to do with what job you're playing on.

Edit:

Quote:
Every PUP has knows how to play theyre job if they managed to get level 75 on it

Now I know you're oblivious.

#24REDACTED, Posted: Jul 24 2009 at 10:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) PUP can be just as good as any other DD in most situations, sometimes better sometimes worse but what it always has that no other job has is a massive weakness in the vulnerability of it's puppet. There are just so many ways for this job to get screwed over in this regard that it's not worth taking the risk of bringing it at all. All things being equal there's no way I would invite a PUP instead of SAM or even THF if I didn't feel sorry for them, even to something they excel at like colibri.
