It is our pleasure to announce that the next edition of VanaFest, Japan's premier Final Fantasy XI fan event, will be held on Sunday, February 28th 2010 in Tokyo!

Attendees can expect this year's event to be a veritable goldmine of mind-blowing news. Development and operation team members will engage in a talk session and divulge juicy pieces of information such as new content scheduled for upcoming version updates, planned job improvements, and other exciting milestones for the year 2010. The evolution of Final Fantasy XI is far from over, folks!

But save your awestruck faces for the special announcement...and be sure to hang on to your seats when it comes!

Even those unable to attend need not be disheartened! All the latest news and developments announced at the festival will be delivered to you hot off the press, so stay tuned!

I'm leaning towards a FFXIV announcement in regards to the special announcement. Either that, or a new expansion.

EDIT:

Guess I was partly right, from the Vanafest official event page:

Basically there will be some sort of announcement about FFXIV.

No US one? BOOOOOOOOOO. I figure we get a version update note a week or two after mog bonanza ended. But I guess a fan fest will do.

Idk why they wouldn't do more fan festivals in America hell even in other places like Canada and Europe considering how fast they sell out. Get a big enough hall I am sure they can make a hefty profit.

I'm still holding onto hopes for a new mage-friendly expansion featuring the Far East and Western continent, lots of new areas and mobs and an epic new storyline.

Although possible it be a REAL kick in the balls to people who have intention of dropping ffxi for XIV hell it be a kick int he balls for everyone who still plays ffXI.

Just as a blanket statement for the interviewers that will be going.

LEAVE FINAL FANTASY XIV QUESTIONS FOR E3 AND OTHER VENUES. If it isn't related to ffxi in some shape or form I DON'T WANNA READ IT BEING ASKED AT A FINAL FANTASY XI FAN FEST.

Thank you.

somoene post that X-files I want to believe poster haha

Anyway if they plan on still majorly supporting FFXI they are leaving it in starvation mode long, the userbase is dying due to losing hope in the game. They need to show more than words if they really do intend to keep ffxi going long term.

Having said that I bet it will be unbderwhelming junk like the last updates, ill be truley shocked if they are planning anything "good" like expansion packs or other proper life extending content.

It will either be this or a lot of empty promises that SE has no real intentions of delivering on.

At this point it's hard not to feel completely jaded about the future of FFXI; hell we can't even get consistent reports from SE about the direction of FFXI. This seems like the same old bait and switch routine that we as the playerbase have become all too familiar with.

Excellent news, I was really starting to worry about the future of FFXI, but at least we know it's still going strong now.

Only if each copy comes with a handwritten and autographed apology from the developers for WotG and the fact that it still isn't finished after two @#%^ing years.

And since I'm asking for stuff that isn't going to happen anyway, I'd like to log in tomorrow to 900 million gil and a completed Mythic weapon for each of my jobs in my delivery box.

Lol.. maybe another set of mini-expansions... those things must have a good effort/reward return for SE. Also, WOTG is still not finished.

I'm actually hoping for some PUPdate info. There's too many loose ends currently.. missing frame(s)/frame updates, missing attachments, missing weaponskills, missing JAs, AI madness, Tactical Processor >_<... Only job with a 20 min weakness if sh*t hits the fan...

Ofcourse, there's the new avatars as well. Are they coming or is it another DNF? I can't help but wondering if the Avatar Favor wasn't a preparation for them...

Isn't this the event where SE announces all the stuff they plan to do, but never will?

We can start making guesses on what the special announcement will be, at least that will make for a fun thread topic.

My 10 guesses for the special announcement are:

10. Players can make a new character in FFXIV with the same name and face as in FFXI. :/
9. More varied options for Player Event Support...
8. Fellowship NPCs can reach level 75, whoop-dee-do!
7. Players can now use Level Sync at level 1!
6. Synergy and Evolith update.
5. Pankration gets an overhaul, now players can Merit their Pit Monsters.
4. Chocobo Racing gets more variety.
3. Colosseum opens for 1 vs. 1 and group battles, lol.
2. More MMM mazes.
And #1!
1. More /bell emotes.

Fixed an oversight on my part in this post, my bad, Fellowship NPCs can already reach level 70.

It is a shame nobody ever questions game mechanics at these question sessions. I'd really like to hear the argument for favors resetting on BPs, and of course their argument for resetting spirit casting timers.

But knowing the mindset of people that do get to ask questions, we'll get things like:

- Will you add any new impossible HNM like AV with the end of WoTG?
- Will you lower the cost of salvage upgrades?
- Will there be another ballista royale?
- Can you expand the melee merits?

Really. Why don't they ask good things like:

- Will you change dynamis/einherjar entrance time to 70 hours instead of 72 so people can enter without having to wait because they entered late last time?
- Is there any food that enhances both the master and the pet?
- People go 0/25 on the new NM drops. It feels like the THF-knife all over again. Why didn't you set the drop rate higher?
- Mini-expansions let everyone help on missions and quests, but WoTG only let people on the mission/quest or past it help. Why won't you let everyone help their friends progress?

Sigh.

Nobody ever questions game mechanics because they know they won't get an answer.

" Fellowship NPCs can reach level 70, whoop-dee-do! "

I think they already added the level 70 for NPC.

I beleive the idea for them to release the mini-expansions was for us to revisit the places we no longer deal with as high level players where as WoTG is really a "new" area for all of us.

Which has nothing whatsoever to do with the question.

SE are ********. See:

Does facing a direction affect crafting?
IF YOU BERIEVE IT DOES, IT DOES!

Does moon phase affect treasure drops?
IF YOU BERIEVE IT DOES, IT DOES!

They could add ADDITIONAL SERVICES : SLAP A DEV ($500) and they'd make a fortune.

I really hope they don't make this announcement anything to do with FFXIV and if they do have the cheek to do that I hope they get boo'd off the stage.

This confirms my theory that all game mechanics are based solely on the placebo effect and the power of will. I mean, for all we know all the weapons and armor have 0 stats programmed into them, they just work the way everyone believes they will.

Announcement of being able to explore the Walk of Echoes or the end-game events surrounding it would be my personal guess.

I just hope it's Wings of the Goddess mission dependent.

They're running out of questions to ask actually. Really the only question would be how do you deal with/remove bracelets, but I don't think anyone believes we'd get that answer.

When your mind is affecting things outside your own body, that's not really the placebo effect anymore. It's more like...psionics.

brb levitating cars

Edit: ARGH! Yesterday I mixed up "you're" and "your", today it's "affect" vs. "effect". At this rate, I'm never getting my Grammar **** badge back...
