I think this is a great idea. I've always felt that SE's approach to inter-lingual communication was a novel approach and had a lot of potential for applications outside just FFXI. I'd never seen it done this way anywhere else, but it's brilliant. Too many people focus on trying to make the machine learn the nuances of each language and it always comes out close but slightly confused; this is way simpler and almost completely accurate. I say "almost" because there's still the possibility of using something in the wrong context.

I suppose the hardest part is keeping the translation system context-aware when you're outside the narrow scope of gameplay in a specific game. Even within the scope of FFXI you see people mixing context, like translating "Reward" to offer payment for a service, whereas the "Reward" auto-translate is actually referring to the specific BST ability called Reward and might be a little demeaning to non-English players. (As a result, SE added the "Reward:" phrase separately.)

Anyway, I assume you're just using the FFXI list of phrases for now. Do you have plans to eventually add to the list, or is that outside the scope of what you're trying to accomplish?

Right, and I would also like to import FFXIV's phrases too but I'm not sure if they've been DAT mined yet. I do plan to expand the included phrases with more basic ones that are used in everyday conversations, but I need help from those who are fluent in Japanese. At the same time, I do plan on having a section in the Admin Control Panel to add/edit/remove phrases.
