JOB NAME: Undecided

ABBREVIATION: Unknown

STYLE: Ranged/Enfeebler

BRIEF SUMMARY: Ancient tribal hunters used the various forms of poisons and venoms found throughout nature to hunt as well as to defend their home from intruders. They prefer to use hollow tubes and small darts as their weapon of choice, striking silently from the shadows.

TRAITS:
10- Vital shot*
25- Ranged Attack Bonus
40- Ranged Attack Bonus
50- Vital Shot 2*
70- Ranged Attack Bonus

*Vital shot would increase the chances of a critical hit, but rather than doing more damage, the critical hit would result in a stronger enfeeble.

2 HOUR: Plague: Monster's ATT and DEF are reduced to 1 for 30 seconds.

ABILITIES:
Infect HP- Slowly lowers target's HP.*
Infect MP- Slowly lowers target's MP.
Infect VIT- Slowly lowers target's VIT. 1 per tick.

Infect MND- Slowly lowers target's MND. 1 per tick.
Infect INT- Slowly lowers target's INT. 1 per tick.

Recast on all: 1 minute
Duration of all abilities is based on the monster's level and base stats. as well as the player's MND and INT stats.

*Effects similar to poison/bio.

SPELLS: N/A

IMPORTANT STATISTICS:

DEX
AGI
MND
INT

MAGIC SKILLS: N/A

COMBAT SKILLS:

Ranged (blowgun?) A-
Polearm B+

WEAPON SKILLS:

TBD

Afterthoughts: We already have bolts and arrows that produce status effects and, to be honest, I was thinking of how little a DRK uses their Absorb spells. This also made me ask myself "What kind of jobs are underused?" Obviously, we all need more tanks and healers. I went another route and sought to find another enfeebler. We all know that RDM, NIN, and BRD, all have enfeebl;ing capabilities. However, is that what you ever hear people say? Do you ever look at the PT list and say to yourself "We need an enfeebler?" Maybe you would if you had something like this floating around.

PLEASE FOLLOW THE GUIDE AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE. I WILL BE PASTING AND EDITING THESE TO FIT MY EXAMPLE ANYWAY SO FOR THE SAKE OF MY BEAUTIFUL, UNCALLOUSED FINGERTIPS PLEASE USE MY EXAMPLE

I may undertake the mindnumbing task of cutting, pasting and editing every entry to standard (if the OP will hold that much, is their a limit would anyone know please? Please PM if you do) as I will need to do this for the tournament anyway.

BTW watching this thread is actually kind of cool, like a chia-pet, you can see some concepts growing each time ^^

MAGIC SKILLS: N/A

COMBAT SKILLS:
Dagger: C
Staff: C+
Club: D-
Evasion: E

WEAPON SKILLS: standard non-job specific weapon skills are available to a mediator.

VERBAL SKILLS:
All Mediator job abilities are considered Verbal Skills. A Mediator will not be able to use any Verbal Skills if he is affected by the Silence status effect. Verbal Skills will only take affect on sentient creatures, sush as Beastmen, Humes, Elvaan, etc. Verbal Skills that target party members can also be used on mobs charmed by the Invitation ability.

SELL IT BABY!:
The Mediator is a support job. It can enhance the combat capabilites of party members. It can also enfeeble enemies in combat. Lastly it can charm enemy, making it possible to solo with this job.

It will have access to daggers, staves, clubs excluding hammers, light armors similar to what mages can wear, and most non-combat oriented accessories. Its aritifact will look similar to that in Final Fantasy Tactics (upon which I obviously based this write-up), so It would be pink (in a non feminine way).

This job could be used to buff allies by either covering weaknesses of jobs, such as giving a paladin an evasion boost; or to enhance the strenght of a job, such as giving an evasion boost to a ninja. It can also be used in a limited capacity for erase or dispel if no jobs with these abilities are available. It can also function in a party is to enfeeble the enemy.

The job can also function as a solo job, though doing so will be every bit as dangerous if not more so as soloing as a beastmaster.

Think I'm almost finished. Just need to write it up, get the flavor text done.

Worst case scenario, I'll need to make several changes. As it is I've considered several drastically different approaches and I think I've done a pretty good job so far keeping the job fun to play, effective and balanced, but if I've missed some things and need to make big changes, at least I already have a lot of possibilities in mind.

JOB NAME: Chemist

ABBREVIATION: CHM

STYLE: Healer

BRIEF SUMMARY: The Chemist is perhaps only the second pure healing class in FFXI, but they function very differently from their White Mage companions. The power of the Chemist lies in their skill and manipulation of items, which they can create for themselves using various Mix techniques.

Another stark contrast to that of a WHM is that they completely lack their own innate MP. Instead they must be aware at all times of managing their item levels and using the Mix technique wisely. Every rare/ex item that a Chemist conjures exists for only a limited time before it loses it's effect and disintegrates. This time is exactly 5 minutes for all Mixed items. Fortunately for the Chemist, there are a few unique and powerful differences between them and other classes which should make them very desirable as a main healer. In the presence of another dedicated healer for example, a Chemist could essentially function as a support job by focusing on the use of ethers to recover party MP.

Unlike the Chemist class in previous games, other items are not necessary as ingredients for creating the Chemist's unique potions. This would simply be too limiting. The balance lies in the fact that items can only be Mixed every minute. It would be possible to stockpile up to 10 essentially free Cure V's (X-potions) 5 minutes in advance of battle, provided you did absolutely nothing else, but you also have to be aware of using them before they lose their efficacy. The potency of some items may be somewhat enhanced by the INT or MND stat.

TRAITS:

Level 5 Amorph Killer - Allows Chemist to intimidate Amorph class monsters.

Level 50 Compounder - Occasionally allows for the creation of high-quality medicines with increased effects.

2 HOUR:

Level 1 Potency - Doubles the potency of all items used within the next 30 seconds.

ABILITIES:

Lv. 5 Mix - Allows the user to create various useful medicines and compounds for use on themselves and allies. (1 minute recast)

Different items that can be created using the Mix technique:

Level 5 Tonic - Recovers 30 HP. Yield 3.
Level 8 Remedy - Cures Poison, Blind and Paralyze effects. Yield 6.
Level 15 Mid-Tonic - Recovers 100 HP. Yield 3.
Level 20 Concealment Oil - Grants a party member the effect of "Sneak" and "Invisible". Yield 6.
Level 25 Phoenix Dust - Returns a KO'd player to life with 50% of experience points lost salvaged. Yield 1.
Level 25 Hi-Tonic - Recovers 250 HP. Yield 3.
Level 30 Mid-Remedy - In addition to the original effects, also cures Slow, Curse and Silence effects. Yield 6.
Level 35 Technical Elixir - Grant 100 TP to a party member. Yield 1.
Level 40 Mega-Tonic - Recovers 400 HP. Yield 3.
Level 40 Urgency Elixir - Grants a party member the effect of "Haste". Yield 2.
Level 45 Hi-Remedy - In addition to Mid-Remedy's effects, also cures Virus, Petrify and Gravity effects. Yield 6.
Level 45 Ether - Recovers 50 MP. Yield 1.
Level 50 Phoenix Powder - Returns a KO'd player to life with 70% of experience points lost salvaged. Yield 1.
Level 60 X-Tonic - Recovers 700 HP at minimal hate. Yield 2. Duration 5 minutes.
Level 70 Phoenix Wing - Returns a KO'd player to life with 90% of experience points lost salvaged. Yield 1.
Level 70 Panacea - Recovers all negative status ailments on one character. Yield 4.

Level 10 Amorph Circle - Grants the Amorph Killer ability to party members within range for a limited time.

Level 30 Dissolution - When activated, the next Mixed item will be granted an area of effect. Recast 3 minutes.

SPELLS*: N/A

IMPORTANT STATISTICS*: INT, MND

MAGIC SKILLS*: N/A

COMBAT SKILLS*:

Marksmanship B-
Club C+
Evasion C+
Nothing else notable

WEAPON SKILLS*: Club WS minus Hexa-Strike and Black Halo
Gun WS minus Slug Shot and Blast Shot

SELL IT BABY!: Everyone assumes that since Chemist was an item-based job in previous FF incarnations, that it would naturally be a very expensive job in FFXI. By granting the ability to create their (rare/ex) medicines from scratch it removes this problem as well as any limitations or unseen effects on current game balance that might happen if the job was required to hoard items to be useful. The balancing process would be difficult as a result of this, but not impossible, namely adjusting the individual yields through playtesting. This, coupled with the 5 minute time limit on items, would require a careful coordination on the player's part, much akin to how a WHM is required to carefully manage his MP, hopefully to the point that it wouldn't overshadow WHM in longevity. I purposely didn't include some WHM spells in the item list since we don't want to rob the job of all it's individuality. Of course this design would be hella hard on a person's inventory. I considered the creation of some type of "Medicine Bag", perhaps recieved upon unlocking of the job, which you could equip somewhere and would hold your medicines without affecting your inventory, but I thought this would be overly complicated. Inventory management would just be part of the job. And since chemists typically carried guns in previous games, I didn't see why they shouldn't now. With lower skill and no Slug Shot, they would certainly be robbed of the damage dealing capabilities of RNG or even COR, but heck, it might be fun to pop a few shots off when you're idle.

I tried my best, thanks for the rate-downs.

In all seriousness however, I am ecstatic to have recieved more LEGITIMATE (O.O----->Dread Lörd Kaolian) job concepts. There is a little voice gnawing at the back of my head, however, telling me to STHU in case I am left in the predicament of needing to incorporate 50 concepts in the first round. Fortunately, I managed to shut this little voice up by hitting the area of my head it seemed to be originating from repeatedly with a hammer. (In all seriousness, the more entries the better :D I'll figure it all out somehow)

Seeing such fantastic looking entries and the work that has gone into them inspired me to begin brainstorming for the next round. I think I have come up with something cool and original for the elimination round*, (not polls) so stay tuned ^^ (admins will be involved! /cheer! /bow!)

*even if a small portion of it was ripped directly from American Idol >.>

And stop being lazy, read the OP that I typed again. lol. There is a hidden joke somewhere in it now that I edited in about you >.>

Name: Psion (PSI)

Description: Hunters from the far south who have been trained to combat the emptiness. They have not only gone through rigorous physical but also intense mental training to the point that they can manipulate their enemies mentally and predict future actions.

2 Hour: Psychic Barrage: Unleashes multiple mental and physical attacks upon the enemy, dealing great damage. The enemy is thereafter unable to gain or lose hate for 30 seconds.

Abilities:

Lvl 10: Knockback: Psion deals a knockback effect to the enemy. High enmity.

Lvl 18: Inertia: Adds a further 10% anticipate chance and after every successful parry a counterattack will be performed. Lasts 1 minute.

Lvl 30: Burst: Psion purges positive status effects from themselves to deal a multiple blow attack. Any bubbles will be immediately converted into hp.

Lvl 40: Purity: Psion purges one negative status effect from their body.

Lvl 50: Bide: Psion waits for 10 seconds then unleashes a devastating attack. High enmity

Spells: The psion's mp pool would be comparable to a PLD's.

Lvl 5: Sense: The Psion knows the current hp of the target as well as one active buff.

Lvl 15: Bubble: The psion creates a bubble of kinetic energy around themselves, acting as a 100 hp stoneskin-like effect. Over time the shield is transformed into HP.*

Lvl 20: Forget: Psion loses emnity

Lvl 25: Phobia : Psion causes monster to attack more slowly the longer the psion has been targeted

Lvl 30: Bubble II: 200 hp shield (stacks with bubble I).

Lvl 35: Diversion: Psion causes monster's attacks to miss more often the longer he has been targeted.

Lvl 42: Bubble III: 300 hp shield (stacks with bubble one or two, but not both).

Lvl 45: Ignorance: Psion causes other party members to lose hate.

Lvl 60: Amnesia: Psion inflicts amnesia on target

*Bubble effects. Example: Psion casts bubble, bubble is now at 100 points. After twenty seconds the bubble is now at 80 points and the psion has regained 20 hp. The bubble then deflects 50 points out of an 80 point damage spell. The Psion takes 30 damage. The bubble is now at 30 points.

Traits
:

Lvl 10: Clairvoyance: The Psion is able to predict the enemies moves, giving a 5% chance to anticipate any blows.
Lvl 15: Improved Sense: Psion knows hp and elemental weakness
Lvl 20: Empty Killer
Lvl 30 Clairvoyance II: Adds another 5%
Lvl 35: Improved Sense II: Psion knows hp, mp, and elemental weakness
Lvl 40: Clear Body: Improves hmp by +10
Lvl 50: Improved Sense III: Psion knows hp, mp, tp, and elemental weakness
Lvl 55: Clairvoyance III: Adds another 5%
Lvl 65: Clear Body II: improves hmp by a further 10.

Merits: These are some abilities I liked, but couldn't find a great place for them in the level progression. So I stuck them as merits.

Spirit Link: Trait: The psion is mentally connected to his party members. Should one die the psion flies into a rage for one minute, gaining +25% attack and attack speed and 200 temporary hit points.

Mind Control: Spell: The psion forcibly switches the enemies target to one person, duration dependant on merits. This can even be used to target other monsters.

Brainstorm: Trait: The psion has a chance to gain back mp whenever another party member casts a spell.

Mind Meld: Ability: The psion drains psychic power from all surrounding foes and channels it. Drains hp and mp from enemies and adds a +% anticipation chance for every enemy drained. parry chance is increased by merits (2, 3, 5)

Skills:
A: Axe
B-: Sword
B-: Dagger
C: Club

A+: parrying
C: Evasion

A+: Psionics (magic)

Sell it baby!:

WE NEED MORE TANKS. And what better way to keep a mob occupied than by prying into it's head? This class is best suited for tanking but with some powerful abilities and the use of axes can be a good DD.

Also it's abilities aren't just good for itself. No, this class benefits all who would want to tank. Ninja and Samurai would love a straight anticipation chance and paladins and other bloodtanks would have a new damage mitigation tool as well as some neat hate tricks.

And who wouldn't like Sense?

You want a preview? You want a preview of it? Go watch River Tam beat down some reavers in Serenity. That's the power of a Psion.
