mods, feel free to move this around if this topic is better suited for another forum. I feel that this was the best place to put it, since it's more of a tool rather than a question about clamming.

During my time spent on FFXI I've yet to find such a peaceful and relaxing hobby as clamming is. The area is just beautiful and it's a very nice break from farming and leveling. Of course clamming involves keeping track of your bucket weight and making sure you don't go too far over.

Well, I knew I had to sit down and write my own very quick program for that. There are several online tools that do the exact same thing. One of which, "The Clamming Kit" (http://ffxi.lokyst.net/clammer/clamming.html) has been my
inspiration in making this program. So now you're asking why you should be using this program instead of the online ones. Well, my program not only keeps track of the weight but also the value in gil that your current bucket is worth (estimated).

This means that you can assess your risk in trying to dig up another item as you get closer and closer to your bucket weight cap. If you're at 43/50 for example and your bucket is only worth 42 gil you might want to take the risk. However, if your bucket is at 43/50 and is worth 1700 gil you will obviously not want to take the risk.

I'm posting it here for those who might find this useful. Also because I wouldn't mind some suggestions on how to improve it, even if the improvements are just design. But mostly I just hope someone out there will find it useful.

Oh, you gonna love this boy.
Tyrone calls you up, you know - in the game - and he says "I can dig more clams than you, stupid!" And you gotta say "Nuh-uh, boy," And y'all gotta race down to the beach with your buckets and your shovels, and the object of the game...is to find parking.

Executable programs released on a MMORPG site right after tons of accounts were stolen. This will go well.

I think I should give clam digging a try. I already get made fun of in my LS for all my other digging activities (Chocobo dig, mine, chocobo hot and cold)

Might as well finish the repetoire.

If you feel that strongly about it, put it onto another computer and run it from there. I wrote it with the intent of running it on my laptop while I clam on my desktop.

In my experience, you won't get rich from clamming unless you're super lucky. One of my LS friends managed to dig up 3 corals almost back to back. He walked out of there with 30k in his pocket. Meanwhile, I lost around 3,700 gil total. I don't go clamming to get rich, though. I go because the area is absolutely beautiful and it's such a nice relaxing activity compared to farming/leveling/crafting.

I've never gone Chocobo digging though. I may have to try that out sometime.

Clamming can be rather fun, but also reustrating at times. Like when you have the 100 ponze bucket and ~70 ponze of items.. and you get an Igneious* rock -_-

Choco digging can be fun as well, but very time consuming. For almost all of level 1 (yes, you do actually progress) you will have roughly a 10-15% success on digs, which will vary slightly from zone to zone. At lv 2, this jumps to ~25-30% success. You also get your wait time between digs reduces a bit (5 secs i believe)

I had dug on my choco for a while, never really kept track, but if i was going somewhere i'd get a stack of Gysalh greens and dig non the way. When i raised my first choco i went out, did several hot and colds and then looked back at choco digging. Took a rental out and tried my lv 2 digging macro and it worked. I still don;t get much great, but its somewhat fun, gives you something to do if you are bored and want a change, and you CAN get lucky and dig something nice up. (likewise with choco hot and cold)

If you have not tried it, def give it a shot some time. Its a bit les monotonous and calculating as clamming, however the items you are liekly to get are fairly useless, pebbles, bone chips, rock salt -_-. Its still fun though ^^.

What was the name of the other game he was playing where he had to bag on the PC with "Yo Mama" jokes and when he got a high score and it said "Incineration! You are the Ultimate Insult Master"?

The other game was Insult Master, which was actually made in to a game on Adultswim.Com. However, I have no idea if the game still exists now.
Was sort of fun to play really, though it required two players.
