People generally want to start a game when they buy it and I haven't asked around, but I would also assume that most people don't wait until the 1st to start playing it.
Just out of curiosity, do you really blame the consumer for being stupid? Any and every other company is competent enough to run a subscription service that bills customers for 30 days of service. SE does now, but it wasn't all that long ago when they could only handle billing from the beginning to the end of the month. Sub on the 29th? sh*t out of luck. Pay once to get you to the end of the month and again on the 1st for the following month.
Whether or not you get 11 days or 40 days doesn't really matter to me, because I won't be playing anyway. It just seems odd to me that they wouldn't honor the discount for packaging XI/XIV subscriptions while they make the transition to ARR. It's not a deal-breaker, but definitely a head scratch moment.
Yes, yes, I am well aware about the old sub drama with SE, which is specifically why I said:

who starts a SE mmo game at the end of a month
And whoooooo did I blame? You're getting all feisty because some people will get less FREE time than others, depending on when they subbed, and saying it ISN'T free.
WHO GIVES A SH*T? Someone needs to explain to you what free is. Getting something you didn't pay for.
And if you can find 2 people that currently sub to XI and XIV, I will never call you out on all your stupid bullsh*t again. I don't even see how this is an issue because... well let's do the math, shall we?
FFXIV: $9.99
+
FFXI: $7.00
Total: $16.99
FFXI without subscription discount: $12.95
PHEW! I am tired from slapping you in the face with all this math, I tell ya. Sounds like you're saving even more money than you previously were, don't it? I'm not even a college professor, and never pursued that Doctoral in Economics, but still, I was able to figure that one out.
