The way that I found out about the transition in the game was by encountering a message saying something like: You have no characters. My account page said there are no availble actions and I had no active characters. Email to techinical support asking what had happened got back a reply saying that I am unable to create any characters. Only because I was able to chat with technical support during work hours was I able to discover that I haven't actually lost my account and it's just that squeenix has unbelievably bad business practices.

Anyway, has there been anything said about when the game will launch again? The information doesn't appear to be anywhere obvious. Along those lines, the thing about beta testing says that legacy players will not have to apply for the beta. When will that happen?

There has been news about this posted on just about every forum, as well as information on the official website. That being said, I do wish that SE had sent out a mass email to anyone that has an active Square-Enix account with FFXIV registered to it as a courtesy.

I am sure you can scroll through the editor letters to get more info, but Phase 1 of the Beta will likely start mid February, and the rest will depend on how well the testing goes. As far as Legacy goes, yes, you automatically get in... but I would have a hard time believing that anyone who has the Legacy status would have no clue that the game was shutting down (and for how long).

Hopefully that helps a bit.

It could be saying that you have no characters because you won't be able to import your 1.0 character(s) until Phase 3 of the beta. Before that point, you'll have to make up a new one for the first two phases.

I hate to say it but if you went this long without knowing about the reboot/relaunch then you probably didnt care about playing the game enough to care about your characters and or whether or not you could log in

February. Thanks.

Aside from me wanting to know when, I'm commenting on their (square) marketing. So, even though I'm expressing frustration from months ago, it is meant to be constructive criticism.

it seems to me like it would be a good idea for them to put such information somewhere very obvious. Also, locking people out with only a short ambiguous explanation is not the best way to treat your customers, I think. If my case is not unusual, I suspect they will lose many customers because of the way that they handled this transition. I have to remember to come check if the game has launched. It is the opposite of advertising. The customer has to put a lot of effort into paying them for their product, instead of the more typical method of bombarding the customer with the information about how to get their product.

Another thing that made it difficult for me to figure out what was going on was that they would not allow me to login to lodestone because I had no active characters.... So, I coudn't ask what was going on on that forum. Can you imagine if they were selling tampons and shutdown production for a few months expecting their customer to read through forums to discover when they will be selling their product again?

I didn't think of posting here. Several other ffxiv forums had had no traffic for a very long time. As a result, I thought I had nowhere to ask questions. I expect that I would find the information if I dug around. People who are reading forums every day probably encounter the information very frequently. My participation in forums varies and there are periods when I can't be playing the game every day.

I started playing last summer maybe. It was months after most forum activity had died down that I started.

I had played for a few months. Then, it was September I think, that I found out that I was unable to log in. There was a cut off period. If you had been playing before some date, you could continue logging in, but any progress would be lost after some time (WTF? could that be worded any more confusingly? It sounded to me like you were going to lose your account that way too).

For some unkown reason, they suddenly stopped taking money out of my account for both FFXIV and FFXI, which means that I did not pay for one pay period. I simply set up the same payment options again, but that meant that I was new after the cut off period, apparently, even though I have the "Legacy" icon thing on my account.

Yes, this is a case of poor communication on S-E's part. I think they assume that everyone just reads the official forums. They began the shutdown process late last year to allow the Alpha testing to happen, while keeping certain accounts active until the End of an Era part 2 on New Year's Eve. I believe if you registered before last summer, your account would have stayed active. As it stands now, only those diehard Legacy members who have been playing 1.0 since day one can still post to the Lodestone. They haven't made an official announcement that Phase 1 WILL begin in February--it says so there on their timeline that is subject to change. Once we're closer to the date, we'll have a sure thing.

That said, if you are a Legacy member, you can participate in the Beta. There is just a lot of disorganization going on with the killing of the 1.0 servers, bringing in the Alpha, and now Beta servers soon. You'll have to check the forums at this point if you want to stay on top of the news.

As someone whos been playing since 1.0 launch, I can tell you theres no ground-breaking info out right now, but I think in the coming weeks we will see a flood of info coming out. I hope we at least get to mess around with the bench mark in early Feb. The official forums have a nifty tool which allow you to track any info the Development/Community rep team posts on the forums, you don't need an account or need to login in order to use it.

Overreact much? If you were mildly engaged in ffxiv v1.0 you would have known there were two road maps out for a 2.0 timeline. The first roadmap showed a November/December 2.0 distribution. You can easily determine that was missed. A new road map was announced a month ago. Btw- I googled this.

I honestly don't understand why you are so angry. This has been planned for over a year now. It's been plastered on the official website for the entire time and it's pretty much all they've been talking about since before November. It's not fair to blame them for your unwillingness to follow news about the game.

If anything, email communication along side the information they give on the official forums/lodestone would have been nice. You can't just assume everyone is going to be checking your site or feeds daily like some of us Smiley: smile

With or without being able to log in to the forums, there is a link on the lodestone:
"Upcoming Schedule of Operation and Billing Procedures for FINAL FANTASY XIV" that I would have clicked on to find out whats happening.... The information is there, just can't be lazy about reading it.

Good evening everyone. Producer/Director Yoshida here.

Sorry for making you all feel upset that there aren't many updates.
Currently the development team is starting the finalization of beta test phase 1 (myself included). The day here is passing by at the speed of light. There are lots of things we would like to put in the blog, or letter but we haven't been able to catch up on them, I apolgize.

For FF series, we are very nervous for quality of the screenshots, arts, and any inforamtion we release. Even the leaked stuff is pretty hard ......(laugh)
Therefore, before releasing any information, they need to be checked at least by me first. For that reason the advertisement team cannot just release materials at their own decision.

As mentioned in reps post, we are making adjustments to make the site easier to view at timing of beta's start to add new information. There are lots of tasks still for development, advertisement, and ARR The Lodestone so please hang in there.

After releasing the letter around the day after tomorrow, we will provide beta information through the blog

P.S.
P.S.
For the first benchmark "World Version". This one is going through final check stages by me in the next couple days and then going into final QA. We will distribute right before the beta test phase 1. It's turning out really nicely. Please look forward to it ^^

There hasn’t been much information to disclose and I’m very sorry for making everyone wait. At this point the development team is working on the final stages of beta test phase 1 (myself included) and each day is passing by insanely fast. With each thing there are so many things to do -- The blog! The letter! -- and I'm sorry I haven’t been able to get everything up and going like I planned.

For the Final Fantasy series, I'm extremely concerned about the quality of information as well as screenshots and artwork that are to be released. Even for the things that are leaked it's really difficult lol! With that said, before something is released I need to check it, so the promotional team cannot take it upon themselves to release assets.

While there was already a reply from a Rep about this, we are currently working on the official site to make adjustments to the readability and add information to coincide with the start of the Beta Test, and there are tons of tasks alongside this for development, promotion, and the new Lodestone. With that said, we appreciate your patience.

Once I send the next letter the day after tomorrow, I will be focusing on the current blog and will post some new Beta-related material.

P.S.
Within the next couple of days I will be performing the final checks for the first benchmark "World volume”, and then it will undergo the final QA check. We would like to distribute this right before phase 1 of the Beta Test begins, but I think it's looking pretty good, so please look forward to it!
