I ran into a whole bunch of people on FFXI in a GOV party last night that were from FFXIV while it was down. They really did not like the new direction FFXI has taken.

I have defiantly seen a lot more people since FFXIV went down.

What do you think of FFXI now?

XI is fine, but I'm already certain I can only commit to 1 MMO and I'm just waiting for the Beta to start. I have an active sub, but it's more to talk to friends than play seriously. Will be interesting trying to juggle SOA and ARR.

Not me. I played more FFXI than anyone should in their lifetime. good memories, no point going back. I am playing some JP PSO2 and I re-downloaded F2P TERA but got bored very quickly. I'm mostly playing single player games on Steam lately.

The biggest complaint they had last night about ffxi now is that people level so fast now no one knows their job.
I have not played FFXIV yet and have been playing FFXI for a very long time and I agree with those FFXIV players. People level so fast they do not know their jobs anymore.

My complaint is Abyssea also made the game a little too easy and now some people are steering away from the harder content in the game like voidwatch. They got soft.

I can wait till Seekers of Adoulin. I hope to have this finished by the time FFXIV launches. I doubt I will juggle both games.

I took a break from HNMing in XI while I am in graduate school to embark on a career as a free agent solo bard. I'm still in a social LS (amusingly enough, we're #11 on FFXIAH ahead of some HNMs...) but I have no obligations other than to myself. And it's great. I've gotten so much stuff done in the last year and a half! I'll be tying up loose ends with my WotG static tonight. On Saturdays and Mondays I get together with some friends for no points, super casual events. The rest of the time I just join in shouts. And, um, I'm trying to get the 60 million gil needed to upgrade to level 99 Gjallarhorn, but that'll take a while. (10% there now...)

XI isn't as hardcore as it used to be, but I'm okay with that.

I'm not joining up again. I keep considering it, but I'm leaving Rafoot and Toofar in their graves. I left right before Abyssea and don't feel that I need to get in on it. I'm sticking to single-player and casual games until XIV and XIII-3

Im playing it right now, quit way back before Aht Urghan came out so im really enjoying leveling Blue Mage and soloing alot of the old missions. Pretty hooked on it (again) at the moment but im hoping I get into XIV beta and that it gets me hooked. As much as I love XI I realize its an old game and I hope XIV becomes what I hoped it would be 2 years ago.

I've always thought of going back and finally getting the Nation and expansion missions done now the level cap is 99 since I found it hard to get groups for that kind of stuff in my time zone when I played, but I think doing it on easy mode, mostly on my own probably wouldn't be much fun anyway.

I just want an MMO to devote myself for the next 5, 10 years say. None of the recent MMOs seem to be worth that commitment and certainly not XI now.

It's still fun. We just finished the CoP missions as well as ToAU and I had a blast. Smiley: nod

I was really close to doing so, but then I found League of Legends which has been holding me over nicely.

Right on.. That is what we are doing right now.. We are doing ToAU for someone else and Wings of the goddess for us, then on to moggle what ever the expansion is.

I agree FFXI is starting to seem old. When you see screen shots of FFXIV you can really tell now. Plus mmo's have came along way since the launch of FFXI and it is in need of some big upgrades like crafting.. I really think they should have made a true squeal to FFXI and it would have done really well... It would have pulled back allot of the FFXI players who left. It would have brought in new blood.

I think the reason that they didn't make a sequel to FFXI is that they've more or less told the story they wanted to tell in XI. The expansions have been more about opening up new lands and expanding the existing story. Near the end of WotG, one character says he is going to wander the world and mentions multiple continents, including Ulbulka, the one we're getting in Seekers of Adoulin. SE's world map included that part of the globe three years ago. (The character is Lehko Heboka, the male mithra from the Windurst quests. I wonder if he ever learned about his daughter Nana Mihgo? She's got his personality, if not his wanderlust...)

Good point.

We know how we got here or too this point in time in FFXI through WOG but there really in no closure. At some point fighting the beastman should end. They could have done what they did with FFXIV ending. But I do get what your saying and I have often thought of that.

I have to add this too.. They say that FFXI and FFXIV are two totally different games and different worlds. Well how come the races look almost exactly the same. How come the jobs and crafting are exactly the same. How can Garuda be in two different worlds? Avatars are the same? I do realize too there are similarities in allot of mmo's and rpg's.

Yeah I agree, I honestly cant even spell the Galka names. To me, they will always be Hume, Galka, Elvaan, Mithra and TaruTaru. I really dont get why they needed to choose new names for the same races just to make it confusing.

Garuda is a FF staple. She's been in plenty of other Final Fantasy games. She's like moogles, or Cid. You can't have a FF game without Cid!

I think they wanted to make the races from FFXI staples in the games, too, just like they incorporated mandragoras from XI into XII. Yoshi P has also talked about possibly adding Viera as a playable race in XIV in the distant future. Tanaka said it was a deliberate decision to keep the XI races, because they wanted the game to feel familiar. Honestly, the Tarutaru -> Lalafelle changed the most. Lalas are taller and better proportioned compared to the other races than the Taru (a Taru's head is as big as a Mithra's torso....)

I agree, though, that changing the names was silly.

Played FFXI for and was originally going to play it until FFXIV to come back online. Decided just to quit sooner because of I can't get stuff done like assault missions, regular missions and endgame. FFXIV's crafting was very accessible while on FFXI only the high level craft people seem to make money at all. FFXIV seemed to hand you tons of crystals/shards to craft with while FFXI a dousin of wind crystals can go for something like 3k gil! Endgame requires either an E/R/M weapon or something that drops from a VW NM or from magian trials. Magian trials are very boring, drops from VW NMs doesn't exist and I can't be bothered soloing an Empyrean weapon.

Soo boring. They keep you busy but they are the biggest grind yet.
My girlfriend loves allot of them though because it is stuff she can do on her won.

In actuality, they stated they wanted to "overhaul" FFXI but decided making FFXIV would have been the better option, which by common sense it normally is the better option. Much like if they overhauled XI and made it more modern and higher visuals along with a content expansion at the same time, it damn near would have been the better option than XIV in retrospect.

Now that XIV failed, they're trying to revitilize XI and overhaul XIV since one is their main source of money (XI) and the other they're hoping to become the next. They realistically were hoping people would go to XIV or play both but we know how that ended up.

Developer laziness: I figured that was pretty obvious.

It's Final Fantasy. FFXI is hardly the first to have Garuda or some variant thereof.
