Good News, Everyone!Follow

Honestly, your distance to a backbone has more bearing on your latency than anything. My DSL line is about a hundred feet from a node, and that node is on the business commercial line to the big backbone in Atlanta. The latency from Atlanta to the CA nodes in the Bay Area is usually in the single digits, but the ping from my house to ALT is 10-15, with my local node being the weakest link.

I think we need to take some player initiative and sort out NA servers into east coast / west coast as soon as we can. Nothing bites more than living in Atlanta and ending up on a server where the majority of players are in the Bay Area and Oregon. Smiley: frown

Which probably means "NA" means "California." Great..

I believe SE has offices in Montreal as well. There may be hope for the east coast yet.

I understood that. I was just curious why it would be an issue for anyone when it's an announcement about beta and not launch.

Because the question asked isn't about Beta, its about how the old servers are being split apart for Legacy players who want to play on a server with a data center in the US. Unless I've misunderstood, it impacts launch just as much as Beta.

SE had stated that there would be fresh servers for new players that established players would not be allowed to transfer to. I was saying that for the purposes of beta, having old players mixed in with new (flaunting their gobbues) wouldn't necessarily carry through launch.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

There's been much speculation about it, and nobody's brought this point up, but server transfers and player distribution was addressed in the last live stream.

From the official forum:
Quote:
Q46: How will the worlds from 1.0 be separated with the shift to global data centers?

A46: During Beta Test phase 3, we are planning to have players choose worlds like the world transfer in 1.0. At that time we plan on releasing information on which world will be connected to which data center.

So it would seem that 1.0 players of all shapes and sizes will have an option to switch servers before launch.

Somehow I missed this, but for those still thinking legacy players can move to non legacy servers, I cleared this up a few weeks ago with an dev post I found on the official forums.

I'm pretty sure you can make a new character on a non-Legacy server, you just can't transfer an existing 1.0 character over there.

I'll probably make a new character just to see what the difference in storyline is between them.

Yeah I wasn't trying to say that. What I was trying to say is that existing, ported, legacy characters will never be allowed on non-legacy servers, as Bayohne stated.

Personally I don't like it. I want to be on a server with absolutely NO legacy players. I don't want to see anybody rubbing their Goobue mounts in my face if I can't have one, too. Smiley: bah

I hate the idea to.. I don't care what legacy players get like special gear , Goobue mounts or chocos etc. I just don't want to play with people that have several years start on me. It supposed to be a new game so reset all stats period this way everyone is equal and there is nothing to worry about period. This may actually make me rethink playing the game if i have to play with legacy players unless they start at the same level. It would be nice having some legacy players to help out on the server with new players which again means they should reset all stats.

This game does not survive on legacy players period that is why it is shut down. If they don't bring new blood into the game it will fail again but this time it brings Square down with the 150 million loss already in a quarter. SE needs to do everything to get new players period.

Legacy players will be able to switch between legacy servers is how I interpreted it. They already confirmed that there will be fresh servers where legacy players cannot transfer to.

I hope your right.

Thats from Jan and read that along time ago.... There was something on the official forums by a developer or rep a little while ago . I wish I could find it again but cant that suggested they may not be going that route because so many legacy players thought they would be on servers in Japan and didn't want that.
Nothing is finalized till the games is actually released and can be changed. Again I hope it stays that way.
Also allot of it is people interpretation of what is meant.
