Uh no. Look at the road map, phase one has a lot of stuff, phase 2 seems a bit lighter, and most of it old hat from phase 1. The big things are Grand Companies, private chocobos, and of course game pad stuff. The rest of it is simple more of the same from phase one, which they should be adept at fixing by now, or have already fixed as part of phase 1. You're a glass is half empty kind of person aren't you?

I'm pretty happy with the small numbers on the damage and HP that I see in these shots. I've always thought it was stupid when MMOs have characters with 129,864 HP... it feels like it's done merely to make people say "woo!" when a big number shows up on their screen. For readability and balance, you may as well just drop the final couple digits in every case, since they're never doing anything significant. Smiley: nod

I wonder if they will do a full shutdown for debugging(as I gathered from their roadmap), etc, or if they are doing more of it on the fly and will keep the beta open.

Phase 1 was always going to be the longest phase, and I think we determined it wasn't going over it's scheduled time?

Phase 2 is 1-3 weeks, 3 is also 1-3 weeks, 4 is 1-2 weeks. Allow for 1-2 weeks debug time between 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. So far things are chugging right along, not sure why you think it would be delayed at this point.

One other interesting bit I just gleaned after looking at the roadmap again.

If there are 100,000 testers right now, and they only have 5-10 servers as the beta roadmap states, then they're packing in 10,000-20,000 players per server Smiley: jawdrop

Even 10k per server is amazingly large.

Yea pretty amazing, if you consider that the largest server in an MMO is the one that Eve online has, and host every day all day around 20-35k people. So 10k per server is really really big.

That makes me wonder how stable their servers are. Cause if they can handle that many easily they did something really good lag wise.

If they're only taking another week for phase 1 then I imagine things are pretty stable after the initial hiccups he referred to.

The screen shots look amazing... Want some ps3 screen shoots.
Need to decide about another ps3 or computer. No I don't want another debate about it now. I know it will be better on a pc.

It's even more amazing when you consider that Phase 1 only includes the areas around Gridania, so all these players are in only a few zones. I have a good feeling they have stressed the server very well.

isnt that how many players ALL MMO servers support? sure theres never that many on at the same time but theoretical if that many did decide to get on that that same time lots of games could support that.

To say that that many are spread over so few zones is impressive though, older mmo's for example ffxi could only hold maybe 600 per zone? I remember system messages asking people to leave whitegate and then come abyssea port jeuno.

With only one city and a few surrounding areas open to players? Once they open up the rest of the world that would be more in line with what I would expect but there is less than 1/3 of the world open to the testers at this point.

Come on now, Wint. Why do I have to be the one who spills your beans? Where is Filth or even Poubelle when you need them?
Of course you know that the 100.000 number (if actually a real number at all) is definitely not the number of players concurrently
logged in at any point of time, but the number of people who ever participated in phase 1 of the beta.

But I can fully confirm that I heard even manymany players hopping buffing and spelling around the aetherite platform in Gridana
seem to not even dent the server capacities. A totally different feeling from 1.XX, or so the rumor says... a truly amazing difference.

100K? I was guessing 50K.

I also suspect that some folks may have gotten invites but missed them. I know some Legacy members who weren't checking email because they weren't even paying attention to the beta schedule.

Do you think he's quoting invites sent or people actually logging in?

Yea but the number he put was for the people that are playing the game. So i am guessing he just took the number from the logs for every account that logged in even once in the game.

edit : damn wint is fast! ^^

I think it may be 100k all right, but I doubt it's 100k at the same time.

The arbitrarily large numbers tend to be because of power creep. This was/is one of WoW's bigger development issues. Their plan didn't involve side-upgrades or anything like that so every time new content came out they had to increase the numbers on it. But they had to increase them enough to make it seem like it was worth it to pretty much go through the same stuff over and over again every patch/expansion. I'm sure it's part of the reason they had to standardize mob stats and jobs. I really hope FFXIV doesn't go this route.

And while you two argued about the glass being half empty or half full, I took the shot for myself and you both are left with nothing.
