Stepping into an MMO for the first time is a wonderful once in a lifetime experience. For those of you thinking that your going to relive that feeling. Get real.

I suppose the problem is that people are expecting 'A Realm Reborn' to be an entirely new game.

Please keep in mind that this is a revamp/huge update to the game, but it is still Final Fantasy XIV. You will experience (hopefully) improved features, but it will still be the same game. You will log into your same character, with your same items and Gil, etc.

The ARR update is adding a lot of new stuff, but unfortunately some of the huge issues with FFXIV can't just be glossed over with an update/revamp. A lot of the same big issues will still be there when you log into ARR.

If Final Fantasy XIV ever had a chance at the same 'magic' that XI had, they lost that chance a long time ago.

Yeah. I know that it was a different time and gaming was in a different place, but logging in to Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI was just magical.

I feel no connection to XIV at all, honestly. I don't like the lore, the cities/setting... (and of course, the horrible gameplay itself didn't help either).

I'm not very excited for ARR because it's still going to include much of what I did not like about 1.0. It's like sprinkling glitter onto a pile of ****.

It's just... glittery ****.

Oh good, I was hoping not to get the FFXI feeling. I'd rather not be dropped into the game with little direction and 50 gil. And don't get me on the poor mission directions. See: Zilart Mission 4.

A lot of people see FFXI with rose-colored lenses. Also: It seems if you didn't like the lore in the first place, I don't think anything will get you to like FFXIV. The fundamental story is more-or-less the same, just built on a better game foundation.

No one would argue that Final Fantasy XI is a perfect game. Oh, it's very far from perfect.

However, it did offer a certain level of immersion, a connection to the game, that 'Eorzea' could never hope to have.

I will give the game a try because it's Final Fantasy, but my expectations are astronomically low.

Final Fantasy XIV was such a disappointment that even the thought of re-entering Gridania, Ul'dah', and Limsa Lominsa for a second round makes my stomach turn.

From what I have read and seen about ARR it sometimes seems like FFXI and FFXIV are at opposite ends of extremes, very similarly to the some of the people that are posting their opinions on the forums. I played FFXI for four years and loved every second of it but when I heard about a new SE MMO coming out in the shape of 1.0 I made the decision to quit FFXI (I'm definitely a 1 MMO person). Yes the graphics were better but like many people have highlighted, there were many problems which I don't need to go into now. I did play FFXIV 1.0 until the worlds ended in November and have to say I really enjoyed playing it even with it's flaws but it wasn't FFXI. Met some great people, had some great battles, enjoyed grinding etc.

Lots of things that you would need an online guide for in FFXI you wouldn't need for 1.0. Lol I remember I actually had a folder with printed instructions for missions/quests etc until I was able to use another laptop to figure things out. You just didn't need this in 1.0. The CE edition came with a booklet with space for notes at the back but nothing was ever written in there. I think ARR is going even further than 1.0 in that sense, a move which some people just don't like but there are plenty of others that do.

When I eventually get to play retail ARR with my 1.0 character and all his effects I don't suppose I will have the same feeling as I had when I played FFXI but then again I'm not expecting to. I never played FFXIV with the hope of it being FFXI 2.0 because that's what I left when I made the decision to quit FFXI in the first place.

Im sure that I will relive that feeling :D Already did when I got back to play 1.23 :D And while 2.0 isnt a "new" game, im sure that I would get the same "feel good" feeling again. No cookie for you Onineko :3

I know I won't get that "shiny new MMO" feeling with ARR (especially now since I'm a Legacy member.)

As for that feeling of logging into FFXI for the first time, I got that ever time FFXI released a new expansion, so I'm about to get that particular hit/fix in a few days. Wheeee!

I wondered who would come fill the troll shoes Poubelle left, looks like we have a few contenders.

I'll ask you the same I asked him: if you hate the game so much and have such "low expectations", why are you here?

It's ok, you don't have to answer, I'm sure it will be along the lines of "YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO Smiley: motz". I know, I know.

As far as being on topic, I don't WANT FFXI, I want FFXIV. If I wanted XI I'd go back to XI.

The point is, the game doesn't only target ff xi players and 1.0 players. But all the rest that didn't hear the game before, or people that didn't try 1.0 for the known reasons and heard for the make over. Why does everyone believe that people that want to play ARR, by default played 1.0 also? I don't get it.
#24 Mar 23 2013 at 12:12 PM Rating: Decent
ARR feels like home, much the same way FFXI became a home for me. 1.0 was a disaster, it upset me greatly, but I am beyond content with how they fixed things. I'm home! \=^-^=/

I kinda know what the OP means. The first MMO I played was Aion, and I still have *extremely* fond memories of that game, despite everyone I know loathing it. I just have little enthusiasm for MMOs right now--they're all blending together.

I don't quite believe he ment it that way, rather between 1.0 xiv and ARR.

But yea to be honest, this is how the MMO gender is. Similar to how other games of the same gender are. Either you like it and keep it going or you don't. There are games even in the mmo gender that are different from each other. You have fantasy MMOs sci fi MMOs and so on and so on.
