Who here wants an underwater world?Follow

#1 Apr 09 2013 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
I hope that ffxiv 2.0 future updates/expansions would create an underwater world......FFX's underwater battles come to mind....Maybe have a player spell or gear that allows underwater breathing etc....I never played wow but i've seen videos of underwater stuff, how did the underwater breathing mechanic work in WOW? Who besides me love underwater stuff? Its always a mystery whey they rarely explore the underwater realm in MMO's.....I see a lot of potential and exploration thrills.... swimming through beautiful reefs, spear fishing mini games, new water based races, huge water monsters to fight etc....

That would be very fun. That said, I'd be worried about combat. If the world consisted of an underwater facility, I could settle for that. Just as "Sky" was a landmass in the sky. Might give them an excuse for... BLITZBALL! Smiley: nod

I'd love that. Actually one of my biggest disappointments with the original release was the physics. Being glued to the ground and stuck at the edge of the water was sad to me. Even if they don't do it for the original release, I hope they add swimming and flying in expansions - it's been done with other MMOs (EQ2 for example - they added flying after the original release.)

I love love love love the physics in EQ2 actually. I am low level so I only have my jumping mount, but it makes the world feel more real to be able to get up on to mountain tops and stuff. I hope jumping as we've seen it in XIV is just the beginning.

In the Cataclysm expansion, WoW had an underwater zone that was horrible!
In my opinion, it was a pain in the backside to judge depth when trying to loot bodies or collect items. Trying to swim the depths of the various areas within the zone was also painfully boring and tedious.

I'm not sure how it would work in FF, but in WoW, I thought the underwater zone wasn't fun at all.

Just one man's opinion.

I hate swimming, especially in MMO's, I'd be completely fine without it in XIV myself.

Well they could always have a zone where we walk along the seabed in some sort of magical underwater air pocket. All the scenery/vibe of being underwater without the complications of swimming and underwater combat.

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, I've just never enjoyed underwater aspects of MMO's. WoW comes to mind as well as GW2.

The underwater bits were rather fun in FFIII. You had a submarine.

A Garlean submarine would fit in just fine.

And maybe we could have airship versus ship ship versus submarine combat and it'd be TOTALLY AWESOME.

hmm underwater city...that could be cool as well...i can see it now....secret city/settlements built under water to escape the Garleans! I would love it if passages and sky domes were made form some magic dome or bubble where whales and schools of fish swim by.....OMG....I want it!!!

I suppose like anything else, if done well, it would be fun. I've always liked the underwater 'atmosphere' as long as the gameplay while there isn't broken and taxing.

Maybe you could take a submarine down to one of those underwater fantasy cities with a glass bubble around them, lol.

Will swimming be the next jump?

For real, I'm actually not a huge fan of underwater travel. I'm level 80 in GW2, and I avoid underwater fighting like the plague. It's just not nearly as much fun as fighting on land. I kind of like being able to swim, but I really don't like underwater combat.

And that said, there's something about swimming underwater in a full suit of armor, without ever running out of breath, that really doesn't fit well with immersion. I'm totally happy with being able to wade a bit into deep water, but not actually going under. If they ever do implement underwater areas, then I hope it's done in a way that's realistic (and without annoying underwater combat).

We call out to the beasts of the sea to come forth and join us, this night is yours
Because, one day we will all be with you in the black and deep
One day we will all go into the water

Fearless wretch.
Insanity.
He watches.
Lurking, beneath the sea.

Edit for phrasing.

I've never had fun in an underwater zone, and that goes double for MMORPGs.

Now we have some of the soundtrack and boss battles set up for the underwater expansion. "Face the thing that should not be".

For real underwater city is awesome count me in!

While swimming and fighting in water in an MMO is really really awful, underwater city is awesome. Every time i hear something like that the underwater city from Star Wars comes in mind. The graphics would be awesome i believe and again my "sim" self kicks in and i would say...i would pay a bucket of gold to buy a house there! :P

...But yea fighting underwater is a no-no.

I don't like it at all. If they made it like someone mentioned with a glass bubble around the city under water and we get to travel in submarines and whatnot sure, but regular jump in the water and duke it out is a big nono for me.

Of course I wouldn't mind if they made an instance for those who like it.

Not a big fan of underwater combat either. It's an okay change of pace once in a rare while, but in GW2, I would specifically avoid missions with underwater requirements. I'm just not a fan of the 3D combat. Maybe if controls tended to be better, I would feel differently.
