This also reminds me of Chrono Cross going underwater and fighting schools of fish ^.^;

great ideas people! I'd settle for a submarine with large window ^^......for someone who spent hours in ecco the dolphin (dreamcast) just swimming around and catching fish.....it would be amazing......But i can see how bad swim/battle mechanics under water can ruin it. I guess if they do decide on underwater, they can't half *** it will turn out terrible.

It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, I've just never enjoyed underwater aspects of MMO's. WoW comes to mind as well as GW2.

You should check out Age of Wushu... The MMO still needs work, and is quite a time sync if not VIP, but the water is sexy. Running on the water is sexy, swimming in the water is sexy... Wushu water is sexy!

Just sayin ;)

Blizzard may have gotten mixed reviews for the execution of movement in Vashj'ir, but it was a beautiful zone with an awesome concept. I'll suffer through learning how to move in a 3D environment if I get something innovative and interesting in return.

I loved it because it reminded me of the underwater zone in Donkey Kong Country. That music was so excellent.

And maybe we could have airship versus ship ship versus submarine combat and it'd be TOTALLY AWESOME.

**** yes.

I've yet to see underwater fighting implemented well in an MMO. Guild Wars 2 came close but ruined it with the lame harpoon/trident restrictions.

In the Cataclysm expansion, WoW had an underwater zone that was horrible!
In my opinion, it was a pain in the backside to judge depth when trying to loot bodies or collect items. Trying to swim the depths of the various areas within the zone was also painfully boring and tedious.

I'm not sure how it would work in FF, but in WoW, I thought the underwater zone wasn't fun at all.

Just one man's opinion.

It was easier if you went to first person mode.

I thought it was one of the most original things they had done. The storyline was really REALLY good and after you got your "sea legs" navigating wasn't so bad. I just wish that the Abyssal Seahorse was usable in normal water. It was such a great concept relegated forever to memory and maybe the occasional alt.

In XI there was a collection of zones colloquially referred to as "sea" and I would have loved to have been able to explore underneath the surface there.

I actually really liked WoW's underwater zone, though I'll concede that judging distance was difficult.. I was a ranged class, so I didn't care.

The storyline was good, the use of space was good, and the three-dimensionality of the whole area was used really well.

Guild Wars 2 had a good idea and then promptly screwed it up with their underwater weapons.
