Can you give your opinions? What did you especially like (besides the chocobo) and not like?

Can you describe in detail why so many people are sounding off about the combat? What makes the combat so different from 1.2xx?

Was there anything where you said "I don't like this, I hope it changes before launch?"

-- I'm not trying to draw out negativity, but from your article it comes off as flawless? I thought you would give more pros & cons. --

Was there a hide option for pets, accessories? Is there a hide helm option in the interface?(I think it was just a text command before)

Are there any differences between FATE gameplay and GW2's system? Because they seem very similar from the info that we have.

Dislikes? Hmmm...I'm not a huge fan of the escort guildleves, but you don't have to select them, you can choose which ones you want to do. You can hide head armor in the configuration menu but as far as I could tell there wasn't a way to hide pets. They aren't as disruptive as you think, it's not like everyone was walking around with one out. If you teleport or get on your chocobo they disappear and they don't reappear automatically, so half of the time I would forget to have mine out after the initial novelty wore off.

FATE seemed easier to get into than GW2's system, although I can't really say why. It seems liked with FATEs it's more clear what you are supposed to be doing, it's marked on your map, your duty list shows what has to be done and your progression towards completing the FATE.

I'm looking forward to the duty finder for instanced dungeons, the old shout for a group got kind of old even if I never really had trouble making one on my own.

I'm sorry if I don't see as many cons as you, but the few annoyances I had were easily remedied, and there is a lot of work still to come.

Thanks for the write up!

I guess my biggest question would be: Do you have a good idea of when PS3 players will be jumping in? I know it's phase 3, but do you know when that will happen? I'm getting really amped up for this thing!

My guess is PS3 will be from the beginning of the phase. That's one of the things they're supposed to be testing in phase 3, and I can't imagine why they would start it without the PS3. Time will tell.

If you got an email from SE's PR team saying that you could speak once the embargo was lifted, then you're media. It's not confusing at all.

You'll notice all of the images in my article are property of SE, I was not allowed to use anything of my own in my article.

"Some involve taking some items from the NPC and using them on various points in the surrounding area, which usually results in battles."

YES! they do still have quests like that so much for FATE being the only open world content. Also Wint you mentioned Guildleves having nms.. but didnt SE say there would be no NMs? Hunts sound great too and the instance dungeon sounds fun although Im still bummed by the fact that theyre instanced. But so far this game sounds a LOT better then I was originally thinking... I still wont like it as much as i did FXI

But definitely sound like an 8/10 in my book now *(as oppose to the previous 6 or 7) My PS3 is ready!! (Im already starting to wish I didnt have a job (kind alike back when I played FFXI for 8 years lol)

So then basically aside from Images.. If youre Media (i.e you) then the NDA no longer applies to you so you could tell ppl everything you wanted to tell them about the beta if you choose?

I think they were referring to NM's like they are in XI, where they are roaming free among the regular mobs. The NM's involved with Guildleves are specific to you, that is nobody else will see them. For example, the level 10-15 FATEs in Hawthorne Hut sometimes have a NM called Seven Year Gnat that appears who is quite difficult to beat. However when he appears, only you and those who are doing the leve with you will be able to see him.

Another interesting feature with party play: when in a group, either in the open world or doing leves, things link where they wouldn't normally if you were solo. It makes it interesting for sure. You can see faint lines pulsating that shows what will link with the monster you're currently targetting. The UI in general for combat is so much better, the damage numbers that are shown when things get hit and the targetting system are fantastic.

Can you go more in-depth with the combat system? How exactly is it different, and why are so many people complaining about it? Is it that different from 1.23?

Only for phase 1 and 2. The embargo is still in place for phase 3 as far as I'm aware. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say, but I'll go ahead and throw it out there that the last weekend for phase 2 is this weekend. The beta has only been on weekends so far, I'm hoping phase 3 is always on servers.

The other thing I wanted to mention and forgot is that they are very active in patching the game, usually every week we have a patch before the game starts. The download is fast by the way, no more messing that that crappy downloader from 1.0.

I haven't heard anyone complaining about it, since anyone who did so before today was breaking the NDA.

I think it's fine, the global cool downs are 2.5 seconds for skills, 3.5 seconds for spells but you can queue up the next spell before the current one is finished. Couple that with equipment and food that further lowers the cool down time and combat is very fast paced.

Since you're into negativity, this is another thing I'll admit: combat is slow for the first 10-15 levels or so. Once you start getting more abilities you can start performing combos which make the game more interesting for sure. Guildleves are obviously less exciting than other things, FATEs are a notch above them, and Instanced Dungeons are quite a bit of fun. I spent a lot of time running around doing FATEs, it's relaxing actually because there's usually a bit of a lull between them so you can get up and get a drink or do something else for a bit.

Dungeons require full attention, and they're timed (you have an hour to finish them) so there is a certain pace you need to maintain to get them finished. You don't actually have to beat the dungeon to still get a ton of XP and items, but the treasure chests after beating the boss are certain to have very good stuff in them so it's usually in your best interest to try to get them done.

Tam Tara takes about the full hour if you go in with the lowest level possible (15) but if your 17 or so you can dink around a bit and still finish it.

Toto-Rak is a little faster to get to the end, but the boss battle is very tough and you may wipe and need to start again. Starting again doesn't mean defeating everything in the dungeon all over again by the way, everything you kill stays dead so you can run all the way through the dungeon again or use a teleportation device to get down to the boss chamber again.

Haukke manor is probably the fastest, but by this time everyone has quite a few skills and you can usually make short work of everyone but the boss. They are constantly tweaking those things however, so the launch might see differences than what I've seen so far.

lol only on weekends thats how Defiance beta was until it went to open beta.. also if this is the last weekend of phase 2 then that means phase 3 starts in like the middle of may then?

So guillevels happen in the open world but only the ppl in your group can see the NMs despite being are to walk right past you and see you taking place in a guildleve? that kinda suck

@ Wint, What rig do you have, what settings and resolution to you run the game on, and what is your average FPS? Would you say that the world looks better or worse than 1.0 and why?

I'm not into negativity, I either have negative or positive opinions about stuff.

I mean, the reason I have my concerns about the combat is because I thought it was already pretty good at 1.23. It just needed cooler animations and effects. It sounds like they changed it entirely, and I don't get why.

I don't know if the information is NDA breaking, but I can tell you that I browse sites like Reddit for open discussion and I don't necessarily think that they care about the NDA.

The thing that worried me most is this information: apparently TP is infinite now, and you don't need to build it up? You're just repeatedly using skills non-stop from battle start to finish and then it replenishes back to full automatically? Can you please explain how TP building works.

The monsters for your guildleve are not visible to other people until you attack them, then they become visible to everyone. So really if you are fighting the NM then yes, people would be able to see you fighting it. If the monsters were all visible the game would probably crash having to draw that many models at once.

Ah yes, I meant to post that:

Intel i7 2600k (standard clock)
EVGA P67 FTW motherboard
8gb Ripjaw Ram
2 EVGA 650 Ti BOOSTs (game doesn't support SLI yet though)
Intel 520 series SSD

Average FPS is probably between 45-60. Dips to 45 when doing a huge FATE with other people, but at most times I'm pegged at 60.

I think the game looks better personally, but I know there are some who liked the original better. There are little things, like the shadow of the tree canopy swaying moving across the forest floor, the water and ripples, the details on the mobs, they all make the game look gorgeous.

I was teasing Smiley: tongue

TP regenerates yes. You start with 1000, and each skill you use lowers that amount. As I stated in the article, while soloing or doing FATEs and Leves, TP management isn't that important unless the FATE lasts much longer than usual. Where you have to start managing your abilities and skills are when you're working as a group in a dungeon. There are limits to how fast you can progress between the healer and tank having to manage their MP and the DD keeping an eye on their TP.

Let me add to this and hope you can answer. How is your frame rate when you're looking at the Aetheryte plaza, which you stated gets pretty jam packed? Does it bog down?

Lastly, you mentioned a chocobo porter which I'm a bit confused about. Is that like an automatic ride from one spot to the other? Is it instantaneous if so, or do you actually "ride" the automatically driven chocobo?

If you automatically get 1000 TP after each fight, then isn't it pretty much infinite? Spam skills, monster dies, back at full TP to spam all your skills again on the next mob?

I always kinda liked how basic attacks were actually important in XI and XIV. You also use basic attacks to build TP in TERA, which has my favorite combat system. It seems like basic attacks are pointless now if you always have tons of TP to spam skills with.

This first chunk was borderline, I'm going to wipe most of it, you are like a child who can't control himself sometimes. -- Wint

Also is it true you can level up to level 5 w/o leaving the first starting town ? just from doing quests inside the starting area ?
