do you think that any of the PvP gear will be relevant to those of us playing the game as crafters and running EG etc etc... do you think they would make it so that you almost have to PvP to get some of the best gear?

Q: Please give us more details on PvP.
A: I'm not sure how knowledgeable most people are about PvP, especially in the JP community, but the coliseum that we're planning to implement at launch is something like...a gathering place for the world's strongest warriors. When a PvP battle starts, you'll see four players from the opposing team on the other side. Once the signal is given, the battle starts. Now, if I was a black mage, I'd obviously focus on casting magic from a far while trying to keep my distance, since I'd be slaughtered in close combat. I might also hide behind pillars or other obstructions while attacking to prevent others from targeting me.

Of course, I'm sure opposing warriors and paladins would attack me first because of my low defense, so I would probably try to cast sleep or repose to take them out of the fight for a short while. Depending on your role and the situation, you'll want to fight with a different style. And, as I mentioned in the previous live letter, you can use the environment to your advantage. These matches will be balanced around 4 vs. 4. Hopefully everyone can try it out and go from there.

That's the general idea behind PvP. Of course, there will be situations where melee characters try to ensnare casters, or think of ways to prevent the opposing player from running away with sprint. Oh, and you'll be able to restore TP by using potions. I could go on and on about it. Anyway, you’ll receive points when you win a match.

And when you gain a certain amount of points, your PvP rank will go up. As you gain ranks in PVP, you'll receive a different type of points. These particular points can be used to obtain weapon skills, for example. PvP players can create certain builds by using these points. These points can also be used to purchase the PvP gear I introduced last time.

*Artwork of PvP gear is shown in the video.

So essentially, your goal would be to gain points through matches to obtain PVP skills, passive abilities, and gear to grow stronger. You can even buy—well, I might get yelled at by the Battle team for saying this but...

For example, you'll be able to purchase this one paladin PVP ability, and its effect changes depending on what grand company you've joined.

Based on this, it seems like anything earned in PvP will, for now, stay in PvP. This is speculation, of course, since no one has participated in it yet. I would expect it to be/stay that way for quite some time though, due to the almost exclusively PvE nature of the FF series.

Just woke up so not sure on how to read that. My thoughts with PvP & PvE content is as such. Any gear you get doing PvP can only be used for PvP. If you try to use the gear outside the coliseum you get no stats, no buffs that the gear has, it's just something to wear. Flip that around with PvE gear it can only be used for PvE content. Use PvE gear in coliseum and its as though you are walking in nekkid.

Nothing worse than someone deck out in full PvP gear saying, look i have skills, and gear let me raid with you in PvE content where their gear matters in their mind, in reality it doesn't. You only need to look back at WoW as one example (I'm sure there are many). When I was setting up raids in WoW and people who wore PvP tried to get in, I told them no unless they can tell me how resillence would help them in the content. Not a single player could answer that question. It's a wasted stat for the content.

People will always have a greater chance at gearing up in PvP content vs PvE content, you can spam it until the cows come home late next year (even if you sucjk), but when it comes to PvE content you can't spam it and suck because you will get dropped from the group.

I sure hope the both of you are spot on because that would be a huge let down in my eyes if PvP gear was actually worth haveing in PvE...

Based off FFXI and the fact that XIV didn't even HAVE PvP, I think it's a safe bet that the PvP gear will be separate from PvE and you probably won't be able to use either for the opposite role. I don't think this game is really meant to be extremely PvP-centric, so I can't imagine the PvP gear being useful in PvE at all.

He did say PK'ing was not going to happen, so it sounds like coliseum only. It's probably a fairly safe bet they will be kept apart.

Even if you could use PvP gear in PvE situations, it probably wouldn't be ideal, especially when you consider that there will be a "PvP only" stat.

I thought I had read or heard him say in a live letter that the PvE stats and PvP stats would be different. Like the armor you get from PvP would only be useful in PvP and the same goes for PvE. I was under the impression Yoshi had always intended to keep them separate.
