I admit that I always forget about the puppeteer...since I like the more tanky, or melee classes

Hmm...I forget, was Dark Knight even in XI? >.>

i think as a class beastmaster would be pretty nice so that your taming and getting to learn mobs... then for the job upgrade the not so mentioned chocobo knight!!! just a thought probably will never happen but kinda makes a lil sense...

but im with the rest of most the posters here i want my thief back ;(

Fo' Sho it was.

According to the Player Census' players who considered Pup their main job numbered at around 2% so I'm pretty sure I'll need to reinstall FFXI to relive the pup glory..

Edit:

And now it's at .51% with only 1.6% having even leveled it to 99.... woe is me

@Louis - Wow, the cap is 99 now? Last time I played, I think the cap was 70 or 75 XD

Gonna have to try and remember how similar Dark Knight was to it's game version, and then think of what they could do with it here...since I'd actually be interested in having most of the melee classes from every FF game in :P

I actually made a ghetto Dark Knight class in 1.0 before the 1.23 patch.

You could have Shock Spikes, a Reflect dmg Spike, black magic and other such things before the job patch. It would be an easy class / job to make:

You could either branch it from Warrior (not optimal) or just make a Berserer class > Dark Knight, give them access to BLM and WAR skills.

That's actually what I was thinking too. Luckily, due to Summoner...and whatever it's actual job is called (I only pay attention to the summoner part :P) we know that they can just make a new main job, instead of branching them off of others.

I would assume that they'd also get the Darkness abilities from the games in some form...but I do see it becoming closer to a Shadow Knight heh

Mime class with Blue Mage as its job.

Mime would be able to learn both damage and healing spells from monsters, like a blue mage, but the formal job BLU would grant it access to additional spells and the ability to combine spells (in XI known as Chain Affinity and Burst Affinity).

^^ That would be great. I also really want Fencer > Redmage.

The combo is too perfect, and "Fencer" already existed in 1.0, albeit as a Beastman class only.

Marauders are pirates, technically. I also think musketeer will be a pirate-ish class and probably the next one, since Arcanist and Mukseteer guilds alread yexisted and Arcanist was the first new class.

Hmm...Musketeer might actually be a fun class. What would its job be though?

Corsair of course! Wait... we already have a buffing/shooting job...

Bard, yup...so the question is, would Musketeer end up being a job using Archer as well, or will they find a way to make Corsair be different?

Edit: Ranger is possible...though them using guns would seem off.

Sorcerer/Sorceress a la Edea, Adel and Ultimecia in Final Fantasy VIII. New Disciple of Magic right there. Maelstrom as an ability or Limit Break would be cool to me. No idea how they could implement it without being overpowered, though. It's also a cross between Black Mage with the elemental spells, so there would have to be a way to differentiate this from BLM.

Edit: Making them more of a debuffing class with powerful offensive spells might work. We don't have RDM (yet...?) so this would fill the niche for a saboteur.

Additional weapon types specifically for jobs sounds like such a hassle. Equip weapon for class. Then equip job stone. Next equip job specific weapon. Three steps that should take just one.

I'm all for new classes and jobs, even if some abilities overlap. The variety in playstyles offered by FFXI is unmatched due to the multitude of jobs and subjob combinations available and gave the game a real sense of character. A lot of MMOs lack that today. Customization of your character should be a major focus in any massively online game. It helps you feel attached to the character you create so it doesn't feel like you're playing some preset "toon".

With that in mind, gimmie Red Mage!

Dark Knight. Love melee and black magic, so it's naturally my favorite. Second would be Ninja.

It'd be cool to see a real Geomancer (complete with parka and bells), but unfortunately I doubt they have the game set up to appreciate the architecture a job like that would require. e.g., if the terrain is programmed to be a certain type of terrain, there are all kinds of possible terrain-based effects that would be very cool, even for the use of other classes and monsters. I don't even think it's that hard to set up, really. At least it should be infinitely easier than adding swimming to an MMO.

GEO is kind of lame in XI so far. And yeah, I've got the bell and everything. Instead of a parka, though, it has a kind of funky sombrero thing going on.

Thief first and foremost. I most likely am a FFXI homer but a 'Mithqo'te withOUT Thief in her pocket just seems wrong. Let's put the edge back into FF catgirls people =-.-=

Second choice, Dancer. I want frickin' flowers in my hair dam*it!

Third.... Ninja. Because pirates suck! >:)

A Smn that would cast all the former summons in all FF including Shiva, Ifrit, Garuda etc! Wait....

No really......

Besides that ehm, Maneater job for PVP >:) "What you want to take me on??" You have been eaten by Monarc.... You lose!
(^o^)/

Seriously: I would like to see dedicated mage types, like Firemage or Thundermage or something. You would have all thunderbased possible spells, like Thunderstrike (Lightning magic def down, Earth Defense up, both castable on enemies and allies), Jolt (Stun), Circumvent (Lightning surrounds you and protects you from 1 magic spell) or Blast (Terror, JA usable every 10 mins), something like that. Add some non-elemental lightning, like with Meteor or Impact and you have a well versed mage.

Yeah, more new jobs and new concepts is something I would like :)
