Sneak Peak at Phase 3 BetaFollow

Yeah, it wasn't even available when I did the media event in Feb. I got close though, and the architecture around it (there was a city with ship building and a dock, I'll have to go through my notes to find the name) is all very similar and very nice looking indeed. Edit: Found it, Moraby Docks is the name.



I agree, I really hated the way everyone gravitated to one city, we don't need another Jeuno in this game.

Yeah sarcasm is one of those things that doesn't translate well. I know you to be a fan of the game, so I was a bit surprised

Loving the new screens!

I hate to be "that guy", but what's going on with the grass in this screenshot?

It looks fine. I'm also fine with them not providing multiple articulated models of each individual blade of grass to animate in sync with the weather and wind direction. That's an acceptable sacrifice to make the game playable on both the PS3 and computers that are not necessarily from space.

Agreed..for the most part but lets not be blind. That grass (which is all we are talking about here) looks pretty terrible by even the standards of a few years ago.

The grass in FFXIII-2 was beautiful*, the grass in 2.0 is not.





*Disclaimer: Obviously this level of graphics is not really possible in an mmo but it does not appear they gave the grass much attention in 2.0

That's totally fair. Keep in mind though that FF13-2 knows exactly how many things it has to render at any given time. An mmo does not. Would you be willing to take a significant framerate hit with a few dozen players in the area just to have gorgeous grass?

No, you don’t hate to be ‘that guy.” In fact it’s the opposite, you love to be “that guy.” That’s why in every thread you take time out to figure out ways to BE “that guy.” If you hated to be “that guy” I am sure you would complain about people being “that guy” just like you complain about so many other things that have to do with FFXIV ARR..

Also.. You are taking gaming a little too seriously if your complaining about grass. You want to see great grass? Go outside. I’m sure there is some to be found somewhere out there

You guys are ******** about the quality of the grass...the game looks amazing and you're unhappy with the grass?

My god the grass THE GRASS how am i supposed to play a game if the GRASS looks like that!! huh?!

When i log in my MMO since i am a no lifer i want to spend my morning while looking to the grass and feeling (well my character) the small breeze. So what am i supposed to do if the freekin grass looks like that!! GOD!!

That aside i understand that some people would like everything to look great. That is understandable and acceptable especially in the MMO gender. But seriously? You take the damn grass under so much consideration? Or are you worried that the overall graphics won't be nice?If its the later you only need to take a look at the rest of the screenshots. Personally seeing those i would say the game rocks in the graphics section (but then again i was never into super uber graphics, i prefer content over graphics). Others might disagree and i saw some saying that they are worse than 1.0, that might be true i don't know but you know what? I also don't care because the difference at least to my un trained eye is not that big and i do not take under so much consideration the damn grass.

I don't really care about the grass...I turned it off (problem solved). I am however supporting his point. Yes, in fact, the grass looks terrible. It's not a debate or opinion, by today's standards it looks sad. But, again, that was merely a statement made by the Killua to which many replied "no it doesn't" basically. It does. Sure the game looks great, I love it so far. The grass looks like crap. That won't stop me from playing, it's just an observation Killua made, that I agree with, that everyone immediately began flaming like we were heretics. Settle down folks. We are entitled to an observation about a specific aspect of the game, that's why these screens are released.
