Entire LS equipping a lvl 1 job and racing to Jeuno. 1st person to make it wins 100k, dying disqualifies you. Oh, the chatbox that day!

My LS did this! Naked lvl 1s running for their lives! 50k prize, winner take all! No one actually finished but the person who got closest made it within sight of the walls of Jeuno before a tiger ate him. He got a 15k consolation prize for coming so close. Still one of the funniest things I've done in a game.

That sounded like fun. I remember my first run from bastok to jueno. I was scared ******** the whole time but the experience was awesome! :)

Seriously. Took forever to Super Mario my way there from Windy and I was so proud once I got there.

That epic final ToAU fight - I joined a pick up group, as no one else in my link shell was ready to fight it in that first week like I was. The strategies from all the losses were just starting to trickle in, so we went with what we hoped was a good setup - a PLD to tank, a WHM (me) to heal, a BLM to nuke, a RNG for ranged attacks, and a SAM and a DRK/SAM to run in and skillchain every three minutes.

The first half of the fight took us 15 minutes out of the 45 - against the BLU. We won, but not without a death, so our precious time was ticking away. That last boss... we knew we were close on time, but he was at 1% when we got the ten second warning. When the screen went dark, we assumed that we had timed out.

Then the last cutscene loaded. We'd gone 1/1 on what was, at that time, the toughest BC fight in the game, beating it with barely half a second to spare.

Some of my favorite memories:

DD bard- just for fun, taking all my thf/war/sam gear that was equippable on brd (along with my 8 dagger merits) into a burn party. I pulled, did song rotation, and DD'd and we kept constant chains. It was hilarious to watch people O.o when I popped out 1-1.5k eviscerations onto unsuspecting colibri.

4-man hakutaku- At 75, our setup was 2 sam/nin tanks (yes, you read that right), a rdm/blm and I think a whm/blm. The most hilarious part was us sam's resorting to Tachi:Hobaku to try and help with stun rotations. It actually worked incredibly well. Both of us sam's were evenly geared so hate would just kinda bounce back and forth. It got dicey near the end once everyone had basically capped their hate and he started trying to attack the mages, but still a grand ol' time.

Double E-body Nidhogg- He popped at like 2am, and we claimed him with only 5 people. By the time he died, we only had 8 and I think we were about 1 minute from him going enraged. We hadn't even really been seriously camping him, so when double ebody dropped and the second went to me, I nearly crapped my pants.

Soloing XXX on Thf- I loved soloing on thief. Some of my favorite fights were Charybdis, Aquarius, Zoral Jaa, Ose, etc.

Divine Might- We beat it the old fashioned way, before zergs and blm burns. I solo kited one of them. We wiped the first time to the ninja mijin gakure taking out 2/3 of the alliance, so the second time I hung back. It wiped out all but myself and one other dude with the ninja at like 10%. So I popped everything I had, SA>WS> I wing > WS... win. I was the only one left standing, it was pretty epic.

We once held a wedding at one of the tele crags for two of our LS mates getting married IRL whom had met in game... as odd as that sounds it was a pretty neat event to be at with the exchanging of gifts, firecrackers going off, people running around in all sorts of event gear and last but not least our PLD showed up late with the whole zone of mobs following him to the alter... ;P i miss you Jaiboa you were the ****!

Doesn't sound odd at all. That's what makes mmo's so wonderful, the fact that you can meet people that you will know for the rest of your life. Some of my best friends were met via FFXI, and they are great people. I will never forget the relationships I forged in that game. That's one of the things that made the game so great for so many years.

The more I read these, the more I wish I played FFXI. My hume, red mage (i think), only explored 3 or so zones out of Juneo. I do recall everyone once in a while our city/state would control other zones though. I remember a beach area roughly 2 zones away from the city.

It was awesome if you had RL friends that played too. I used share a house with 3 friends who all played. Once we were farming rubies from the mobs that looked like reapers (can't remember what they were called) when one of them charmed my buddy the big galka PLD. He turned and attacked me so I dropped a Dancing Edge on him. My other friends thought it looked fun so they WS'd him too. None of us were really damaging him so we kept going, doing skill chains and sneak attacks on him. We were in the living room on our 360s and we could hear him screaming at us to quit from his room at the back of the house. We were laughing so hard we were crying Smiley: lol

Do any of you know how far back they actually hold accounts? for instance would my account still be floating around FFXI somewhere after a good 3 years of no playing and a server merge? im honestly thinking of just playing XI till XIV decides to poke its head out in a store... knowing its not true i had to ask gamestop the other day if they had been given a release date for XIV and he was like "oh yeah! that will be in our store in January" i literally looked at the guy laughed and walked out the door...

It probably is. Whether it's intact or not is another question entirely.

A buddy of mine, who hadn't played since 2008, wanted his account back.. and SE was able to find it, but instead of his character being a hume with a handful of jobs over level 50... it was a tarutaru with no jobs over level 10. Same name, same server, same POL account..

Very interesting... tbh i would almost start from scratch if i knew i could find a good group and not have to deal with to much of the lvl sinc... i didnt really care for that so much however it did help PT time searches...

Exp parties in XI are now done entirely through level sync in full alliances abusing fields of valor to make the xp roll in at about 6x - 10x the rate it did a few years ago.

In short, leveling isn't how you or I remember it

No. The opposite of that.

Exping is significantly easier now.

Whether or not that's a good thing is up to you to decide.

I just rejoined the game about 1 week ago after quitting in 2010. I put in a service ticket from the Account management system. There is a player reactivation option in there. Just give them the info they ask for, such as player name, highest job when you quit (If multiple 75's, just choose one), approximate quit date, etc. They got mine back up and running within 3 hours. All jobs intact, most of my gear (only 1 or 2 pieces missing that I can't seem to find) and I was ready to go. I have my DNC lvled from 15 -> 50 and THF up to lvl 90 after a couple evenings of xp'ing and my SAM will be next. It was a completely painless experience, for me anyway.

P.S. - Don't call SE for this. The customer service reps have no power over any of this, it's all handled through the online reactivation team.
