i for one def. think there should be some sort of tournament geared towards players fighting a random conjunction of mobs... maybe say a tier of 50? kinda like in FF7 inside the saucer... maybe award points to the group? would be a cool little side part of XIV i would think...

another thing... what ever happened to ruby and emerald weapon whom were damn near undefeatable!!! would like to see something of this caliber as well...

a card game maybe of some sort... not like the one that went with XI more like the game in FF8 i actually got enjoyment out of that one for several hours on end...

To expand on this, I think it would be really cool if they even brought in the slot machine type system which locks you out of certain abilities/items/spells/etc after each battle. Heck, I think it would be cool if certain types of PvP implemented that system too, to really focus more on the strategy elements of it as opposed to just who has the best gear or the right grouping of classes.

Ewwwwww Bartel thats a good one but very nasty!!! would make the real gamers come out... cause what happens when all spells are taken away you now have a good for nothing WHM or BLM... i like the idea for sure cause it keeps everything diffrent each time... you cant just walk up in something and know the perfect strat at that point it would be on the fly and by the seat of your pants... good one for sure i hope they read this mess!

Exactly, I'd love them to throw something into the game that puts a wrench into pre-conceived strategies or groupings. If they did this, it would pretty much require teams to be as diverse as possible so they could cover all their bases. It wouldn't always have to be things they take away from classes either. Some of the roulette stuff could be positive, like increased critical chance for certain types of weapons, hp/mp regen, invisibility when not moving, stuff along those lines.

The Veldt, with variable spawn rates for all mob types, including Notorious Monsters. A zone where pretty much anything and everything can zone.

The thread is alive! And such good responses! I would love to see the Golden Saucer contain a PVP arena, Triple Triad card game, and maybe some slot machines or something where you can win potions or other simple in-game items. I really liked the comment about PVP with certain abilities removed/added, that could actually be the thing to make FFXIV very unique (unless it's been done already?). Maybe we'll see some information about what this picture is at E3...

The only problem I'd have with this is that I don't think I'd ever leave the zone. I love random things in games like that. To this day, the Ancient Cave in Lufia 2 is one of my single favorite areas of any video game, because it's a completely different experience every time you enter it.

I'm just happy that the 7th Umbral Era will finally see some industrialization!

My biggest excitement when the game was first announced was that it would take place during a FF7-ish time period. Not the world, but just a more modernish world that somehow makes us believe people can still use swords and axes when things like Guns exist.

can you link that info on when the game was first released please... i have not heard of this FF7 style in XIV although i dont mind it at all considering that was probably ONE of the greatest games SE has ever made...

the more i think of your roulette ordeal comeing from 7 the more im loving the idea... i really hope this is put into the game somehow!! would be so different and unique to the game as stated above...

what about breeding choco's?... so that not all of them are normal... id like to ride on a red, black, or white choco that just might match my armor at the time... and maybe make each one sound different or something untill time to make flying and swimming mounts if headed in that direction...

just some thoughts while at work....

I'm sure different colored chocobos would be available as optional mounts, regardless of whether or not breeding was introduced. Not too farfetched considering that we're getting magitek armor.

and what if this zone of random mobs was also random lvl mobs... assuming that the random reels of fate go off every 5 lvls of instanced area

lvl 1-5 could be anywhere from lvl1-25 mobs
lvl 6-10 with mob lvls 15-30
lvl 10-20 with mob lvls 30-50
lvl 21-30 with mob lvls 40-50 <-- random fate reels stop accumulating here
lvl 31-40 with mob lvls 50
lvl 41-50 with mob lvls 50-65

I could be mistaken, or it could have just been something I read from a fan who was making stuff up, but I thought I remembered them hinting at the possibility of different colored chocobos with different effects. I highly doubt it would be the same as VII where you can cross water and mountains, but it would still be cool nonetheless.

XI's chocobo breeding didn't have a large color variation (only yellow, black, red, white, and green) but did allow for subtle variations in beaks and tail feathers. I have a very nice green digger with double tail feathers, making it very fluffy and ornamental looking.

pssssshhh i wasnt even aware that XI had made that possible... guess ive been gone longer than i thought

How about Chocobo racing, where a large level of skill is also involved...

I think one of the main issues with RPGs, ESPECIALLY MMOs is that everything gets lumped into a "raw number" category... If you have more "Pick-whichever-stat" points here... it's easy to win.

I'd love to see something where stats indeed play a part, however there is skill involved too.

Also, the ability to wager large sums of cash would be nice... make it like a real life horse racing track. I understand that allowing passive viewers to wager could become problematic, due to collusion amongst racers etc, however allowing the racers themselves to wager would make for a very VERY interesting reprieve from battling monsters.

I'm hopeful that the "Golden Saucer" Yoshi has talked about actually does emulate a lot of the games from the FFVII Saucer. I liked pretty much all of them, save for maybe the Mog game that took forever. Even snowboarding was pretty fun.

I think Square is against the idea of cash gambling in an MMO. Same with card games. They fear that (and probably rightly so), such competition will cause rifts in the community where players will get upset over losing. While I wouldn't personally do this, I could totally see many players losing a large sum of hard earned gil and cancelling their subscriptions immediately. Square is likely never going to take that chance.

This would also fit in great with the "1 character, all classes" setup of the game. Being a diverse player / Free Company wouldn't require multiple types of characters, just make your one guy versatile and fill in the holes as needed. I like this idea.

I think this would also have the potential of increased RMT issues and could possibly violate gambling laws in some countries. Gambling with virtual currency is ok, but when that virtual currency can be exchanged for real currency, you wade into the deep waters of "grey area."

EDIT: Just to add, SE has already had issues with the Mog Bonanza in the past, since it was a lottery and viewed as gambling in some country somewhere.

Perhaps they could introduce a caveat where you are only able to wage 1/20 (or some other number like this) or your maximum Gil... thus preventing anyone from losing it all in one bad decision.

Perhaps....but then that's not as fun for those of us that wouldn't cancel the sub if we made a bad decision. I wanna win VEGAS STYLE BABY!
