VIII was better for me when I got a little older, around 20 I believe. When I was 16 or whatever I was and first played it, I was disappointed. When I went back and replayed it, I loved it. Just goes to show how maturity level (or lack of any good RPGs in a while lol) can entirely change one's perspective.

i believe 7 was my first as a child... but i also feel that i enjoyed 8 much more than others, it had a very good feel to it for me at least... i've played them all up to 13-2 including tactics, crystal chronicles and so on... but i can assure you i will never forget the day i picked up XI... all of SE's games have changed my gaming experiences in life and the stories have all been just down right amazingly wrote...

just a side question to all... does anyone else have a unopened FF3 sitting at home? ive been holding onto it for years now just watching the price fluxuate every now and then... just wondering if there is anyone else holding it and might have a suggested sell price in head your waiting on?

Where can one find reliable emulators for ps2, ps3.. etc. The site I use (wont post addy here but if you want send me a PM and will send you the link) they have over 1k + games but steming back from the old systems (atari, nintendo, arcades, etc.... nothing newish or current). I was playing FFVI the other day just because I was bored and looking for something to do. Favorite game I play from them is Gauntlet.

I shouldn't have to emulate on a game and a system I purchased legally! Sony needs to step it up is what needs to happen!

Backwards compatibility is going the way of the dodo (I should know, my 60gb launch model just died recently), and if you bought the PS3 later than that then you knew it wouldn't work when you bought it.

I wish I could point you in the right direction, I only emulate games I own, but the PS2 emulator scene is very good, I think XII looks better on my computer than the console.

That game was so fun! The community hated the removal of the battle transition screen....losers (jk). Seriously I want to play it again. I'll have to get out my metal detector and hunt for one of those fancy emulators.

Edit: And what a terrible award for that amazing chain lol

.hack//G.U. sure looked a hell of a lot better on my PC with the game resolution oversampled and anti-aliased. Made it look like it was actually HD and being projected on a screen about 4 times bigger than it ever wanted to be on.

I did run into an odd sound issue with it that I wasn't quite able to solve, but I also didn't try very hard as my PS2 works quite well.

I don't think they hated the removal of the battle transition as much as the general gameplay departure. ChronoTrigger is a legend of an RPG and most people loved its lack of a battle transition.

SE hasn't made a new FF title that follows the JRPG combat conventions since X/X2, and somehow they wonder why people feel that they've failed to recapture the nostalgia in recent years.

I second this... my PS2 broke 2 times... I still hadn't finished XII. So I got into the PS2 emulator, and let me just say that it's awesome!!!

I will admit, it took a LOT of tinkering with, but eventually I got it running like a gem.

I don't really see the point of refusing to emulate games you don't own if they're no longer in circulation in the primary market. It's not like the creators see any money from the secondary market anyway. Not that I emulate games anyway, but just as an observer the principle doesn't seem to reflect the spirit of anti-piracy.

I estimate everyone does it, but the white knight ivory tower types on forums prevent anyone from admitting it.

Or those of us who could get in trouble for encouraging it Smiley: blush Technically it still is stealing, not that I would feel horrible if people wanted to play those games, some you can't get your hands on except for the ROMs that are floating around out there.

Back to the Microsoft discussion, it looks like they're pushing Windows 8 as well, which definitely needs help. I bought 2 copies when it first launched at the $40 price, and I just now upgraded my gaming machine to it. Most of the griping I hear about is the lack of a start button and not being able to bypass the tiles screen (which I happen to like). If you take 5 minutes to learn the hot keys it's a pretty nice upgrade to Windows 7 actually.

I took this video because some of my friends were mocking my move. This is my wife's 4 year old Asus laptop, with a new $70 SSD and Windows 8 from a cold boot, it hadn't been started in a few days.

Those gripes have no weight and are just folks who dont adapt to change well. That being said, Win 8 DOES gave several inherent issues that currently have no known fix for. These are but a few of them I have personally experienced...

A.) Many such as mine suffer from "insomnia." Once upgraded my PC will NOT sleep on its own anymore. I can put it to sleep manually, but it wakes up two minutes later. This sucks when with windows 7 I could have it wake up automatically, record a TV show (cablecard), and sleep again 10 minutes after the recording is done. No longer. Still havent found a fix.

B.) By default Win 8's internet capability is limited to reserve bandwidth for updates. Once installed I was doing network transfers from the PC to a gigabit network attached storage at a whopping 1-5 Mb/s. After reading how to fix this I can now make those transfers at 20-25 Mb/s. Again, issue with OS, nothing else.

C.) Win 8 wifi omg. If you have multiple networks in range that you connect to (I have mine and two at the pool) it jumps between them all, even id the connection to current is operating fine. I have to disable "connect automatically" otherwise it cycles through them over and over.

D.) I run an HD Homerun prime in media center. Since installing Win8 I get a "would you like to set up a CableCard now?" message even though it IS set up, and working fine. I get this message every time I launch MCE....every time. Still no known fix according to Microsoft.

In summation, Win 8 needs some serious patches.

I operate on a rule of not touching New Windows until the first service pack. I'm not a fan of paying full retail to beta test an operating system.

I don't have any machines with Win8 installed at the moment, but I do fix computers for a living and more than a few have walked in the door. Let me say that Win8 is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult to fix when it breaks than WinAnythingElse is. So when I complain about Windows 8 it's because of that, not because I don't adapt well to change.

Wint said most of the griping he hears is about lack of start button and tiles. "Those" people are not adapting to change. Obviously yourself, myself, and many others experience real issues with WIn8. Before I get pummeled let me clarify: If your only complaint is about the interface then you, specifically, dont really have anything to complain about other than "its different." For everyone else who has experienced the myriad of bugs, you are legit critics.
