Nope... your 15/month gets you 8 characters per server, with a 40 character worldwide limit.

I was wondering where you found this info, all I have been able to find is info on the entry fee which is $12.99 a month for 1 character with the option to have up to 8 characters at an additional $3.00 per character. I found that in the FAQ for the official FFXIV forums, so I am confused where the $15/month for 8 characters comes from because if I can pay $15 for 8, thats a much better deal.

The 12.99 is one character per server max, but with up to 8 chars across 8 servers The 15.99 is 8 characters per server, 40 characters total, or somesuch.

I think.

Once again though, I ask, where are you getting this info from? The SE FAQ only states that it will be $12.99 for one character and $3 for each additional character up to a max of 8.

Scroll down to the subscription pricing table, below the retail table.

EDIT: Or you could just read Catwho's entirely superior table.

Hello all!

Sorry to bump up an old topic, but I have had a related question and decided to make an account so I can ask in this thread (rather than create a whole new thread).

I played 1.0 and did mostly crafting (I have BOT, CPT, WVR and TAN in the mid 20s). For ARR, I have decided to use this character only for crafting and gathering and create a new main for the combat classes. I did very little of any storyline on my 1.0 character.

1) For the DoH/DoL character, will I be forced to do any story lines or can I just run around everywhere in the world and gather/craft anything I need?
2) Is it possible that I will be locked out of areas and not be able to gather certain materials?
3) I know as of the most recent Letter from the Producer it seems they are making it tough on people with alts on the same account/server to trade/transfer items. Do you guys believe this will be a long term problem? I feel that it is a very poor decision to not allow my two characters to share a retainer/mail items etc. If its really a matter of not wanting people to rotate AF gear, I am sure there is a simple solution. Maybe just only allow the person who put it in storage to take it out.

Thanks for any info!

I can just see it now: people renting chocobos just to run them into high level areas to purposely get knocked off the bird. Then "harvest" them for their chocobo meat to level up their cooking skills!

Chocobo stew could be tasty. Game-meat usually makes good stews Smiley: lol

It's ironic considering I just told BartelX and others that in another thread and he disagreed with me. The rating system really needs to be removed from ZAM. Replace it with a spam only button so people that are just trolling can be nuked. That way admins can ban people who abuse the rate down features(spam button) killing two birds with one stone. As of right now the karma system is a popularity contest. You see people that post smiley faces and never make any real contribution being rated up for doing nothing.

As it was in P3, you couldn't start as DoH/DoL anymore. Had to pick a DoW or DoM to start with. So a crafting/gathering only character would have to start that way, reach level 10, and do the level 10 class quest before getting started. There are also some other milestones further into the storyline you'd want to reach. Like unlocking the airship pass, chocobo, and retainers. And the main storyline requires combat classes.

It's not a prefect system, but no system is. It can harshly punish unpopular ideas, but that's about its only serious flaw from what I can tell. That and it does little to thwart committed trolls, other than to paint them as such. It does encourage you to be respectful and to stop belaboring the same point over and over in a disagreement (or just get rated down repeatedly instead of just once). And there are moderators who will stop any abusers who circumvent the system or use it in ways that are unintended (sock puppets, campers, etc.).

Sigh, I've never seen a Leathercrafter use a chocobo hide, or a moogle hide. No feathers anywhere on anything (oh wait, I think there's a headdress but they fell off of some bird.

Nope, nope.

You should have started a new thread instead of bumping an old topic, but it's too late for that now.

1) You can run around on all the non-instanced maps fine.
2) All of the current harvesting nodes are on non-instanced maps.
3) One character gets:

- 100 inventory slots
- 175 per retainer and up to 2 retainers per character
- 25 slots per equipment slot in the form of the armory chest (so 25 slots for head items, 25 slots for chest items, 25 slots for rings (even though there are two equippable ring slots), 25 slots for necklaces, and so on)
- 7 or 8 (don't remember which) slots for the job crystals
- an unknown (to me) amount of slots for selling on top of that.

Even if you are absolutely horrid at inventory management, it will take you a while to fill up all of those slots.

People rate up what they want to see more of, and rate down what they want to see less of. The karma system is nothing less, and nothing more.

I filled them up before level 20. I had to throw stuff away. When I got the retainer I put as much as I could on the AH, don't remember if it was 20 spots, but I think you can have 2 retainers.
It was my last day and I didn't want to go further.

I will try not to hoard come P4.

You can have two retainers. It didn't let me get any more in any of the Phases. I'm surprised you managed to fill up all the armory slots and the regular inventory though. What exactly were you hoarding?

While I can't say that my inventory was completely filled, it was close a few times and I ended up selling a bunch of random items to an NPC. To be honest, I don't really see much incentive to sell anything until you obtain access to a retainer. Pretty much everything I did end up selling was only worth 1 gil aside from a few pieces of gear I had crafted.

By trying to complete the crafting log as a source of EXP I was able to lvl up easily but it also filled up my inventory quickly with stuff I really didn't need. Without much incentive to sell, it adds up. Especially if you are also leveling a gathering class to supplement your crafts.

Yes, but a lot of the things you'd be making are gear, which means you could put it in the Armory inventory for storage (as long as you didn't go fighting in it). The only one I'd expect to fill first is the weapon slot.

I guess that's true, but then when I want to go sell it I will have to move it back into the inventory anyways. All that extra work... lol

Hopefully the prices for selling to NPCs will get better at higher levels, but it still seems that there is not much incentive to sell anything before you get your retainer, and so your inventory may fill up.

I'm *pretty* sure you can vendor items straight out of the armory chest as well, but since I turn everything there into materia, it's hard for me to verify. Smiley: lol

The prices do go up, but if you're doing a quest and the quest rewards aren't useful to you, then always go for the money. I was leveling all the tradeskill and gathering classes in tandem so almost all the available quest gear were downgrades. (Exception was either the level 15 or level 20 quest results I think, don't remember which.)

You can. There's an option to switch to the armory chest when the shop window is up.
