Yes, but a lot of the things you'd be making are gear, which means you could put it in the Armory inventory for storage (as long as you didn't go fighting in it). The only one I'd expect to fill first is the weapon slot.

I guess that's true, but then when I want to go sell it I will have to move it back into the inventory anyways. All that extra work... lol

Hopefully the prices for selling to NPCs will get better at higher levels, but it still seems that there is not much incentive to sell anything before you get your retainer, and so your inventory may fill up.

Another inventory assist will be the grand company crafting turn-in's (can't remember proper title). It's not much, but soon enough we should know that items x, y & z from (e.g.) blacksmith show up repeatedly. So make a bunch of those to exp, store where able (armory/retainer/house etc), then trickle out to get exp + seals.

Not a huge assistance it's true, but once you've cleared a crafting log for a given level range, knowing what to craft to maximise effectiveness (increased exp gain for GC turns-ins, levequest turn-ins, components for higher-level recipes etc) will be very useful.

Yes, it doesn't help early on, but it's just more reason (imho) to smash a battle class to 20, to get GC/retainer/chocobo access ASAP. That's my plan, anyway. Smiley: smile

It's actually based on your level within a level range, from what I could tell, so stockpiling specific items might not be so helpful if you've leveled out of that range too quickly. Also, every time you level up, if you didn't turn it in, it re-randomizes. I found that out the hard way. For the gathering ones, the only reason to not keep harvesting until you get 10 of the HQ ones is because you're about to level, as you get a very nice boost in both XP and seals and it gives you a goal to shoot for.

A couple of people on my FFXIV facebook group mentioned something about having alts - I'm not entirely sure why other than just having different races maybe? In a previous mmo I played I enjoyed playing as different races, and yes you do sometimes get into your characters even if you're not a roleplayer =) I will probably only have one character myself in FFXIV. This game is laid out quite differently than my old mmo where I really HAD to have more than one toon just to have different classes and crafts, then there was the exhausting repetitive deed grinding, leveling, and having to obtain the best gear for every single toon I had - I was in a raiding kin/guild so it was expected of some players to do so. I think FFXIV will be a nice change for me. Also I think some of the previous responses here are right about them charging you extra for more character slots etc. I'm not sure how much extra it will be, but I think it will be for each month or something of that sort.

I had created alts in FFXI mainly so I would have extra storage and a dedicated bazaar character in Jeuno. Later, it extended to having a second lvl 100 craft.

Since there isn't a limitation in FFXIV as far as leveling multiple DoH classes and inventory space seems to be quite generous, I may not need any alts this time around. Though I may still have a 2nd char just to try a different race and see the main storyline for the other two nations.

Well on the FFXIV website it says:
12.99$ for 8 chars per server, maximum of 40 worldwide, for 180 days of script time

So.. why not plan ahead and pay for the more characters, at a longer sub time, for the same price? Plus, you'll get your Subscription rewards faster!

I know some people don't like it very much, but I absolutely love the "one character to do it all" aspect of the Final Fantasy MMOs. There were some rather major hurdles you had to overcome in order to move forward in FFXI. This made multi-characters a real pain, but it also opened the doors for SE to make the game challenging at the same time. FFXI, to me, was centered around playing and capping-out nearly every job (Maat's Cap), while also engaging yourself in the time-consuming story. Making a new character every time you wanted to experience the game as a different job would have definitely worked against that.

I think this is the reason that stories in games like WoW really pale in comparison to the story of FFXI. They can't really afford to make you feel like you're such an important role in the story's outcome. They more-so make you out to be just another one-in-a-million "Hero", that just happens to hit things slightly harder than the average person. FFXI's story made you feel as though you were NEEDED in order for things to turn out ok.

-I hope I made a point somewhere in all that, and didn't just ramble on.
