You didn't list off a video card in those specs. I assume you have one and are not relying on on-board graphics?

In my view, the two most important stats for a monitor are maximum resolution and contrast ratio. Your monitor there has an "ok" contrast ratio (more would be better) but its max resolution kinda eats. I'd want 1080p minimum (1920x1080). An HDMI interface is only really necessary if you want your monitor to also function as a set of speakers, otherwise DVI will do fine.

Callinon is pretty much spot on. BenQ makes some good gaming monitors:

If you really want to get into the details check out tftcentral.co.uk they have 100s of reviews on monitors and calibration tips.

Okie so i should stick with my tv till I can get something better. I dont have alot of money to spend only around 300-350 but going from a 32in to a 22-24in would be a big change heh

Use this:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/selector.htm

I did a quick one for you these were the results. Main purpose Gaming, secondary purpose tv/movies/etc:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_s2740l.htm

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/iiyama_g2773hs.htm

Best of luck with your decision.

Also, TVs do not work well as gaming monitors, they will never come close to the same quality and color output as a decent monitor.

You can get a nice monitor for 300-350. I would avoid anything with built in speakers, as they usually suck.

It's REALLY expensive for what you get. Probably because of the LED lighting.

Also it has a wacky aspect ratio (16:10? Something like that?) 16:9 is more widely supported as it's the standard widescreen ratio. While it probably wouldn't cause you any problems, you might run into issues where a particular game doesn't support it and it has to stretch your screen to fill it up.

I would go with a BenQ or and Asus over an HP. Check out Newegg, they're usually running a deal for monitors.

That one is expensive because it is an IPS monitor. You get a lot wider viewing angles but slower response times with most of them. If you think you'll be spending the majority of your time sitting at a desk playing then you could surely get a regular TN panel for $100+ less. I was worried about the viewing angles myself, but laying in bed I can watch my new TN monitor with very minimal blackout. I've heard that IPS panels don't have quite as great of color and might have some light bleed. I almost got one that was around $200, but then I realized it was a "cheap" IPS panel and had several problems. If you really want to go the IPS route, you probably wont want to spend much less than that $300.

For gaming you really want a monitor with 5ms or less response time. Especially if you play a lot of fast paced games such as FPSs. Asus has a wide selection of monitors with the specs you would want (minus the IPS panels) for around $150-$180. I got This Monitor for $180, although today it's $20 off >.<. So far it has been great other than the base is slightly wobbly (and I had to spend 30 minutes figuring out how to unlock the buttons after locking them trying to figure out how to scale the screen lol).

Also, If you're willing to spend $300 on the monitor you could probably get a 30'ish inch TN panel for around that. Try using Neweggs search functions to find some monitors you like and then shop around for them if need be.

Love my BenQ monitor and I highly recommend them. Glossy monitors are kind of reflective, as long as you don't have any very bright light sources behind you (lamp, windows, etc) then it will be fine.

Looks good. Only comes with a VGA cable which is strange, so make sure to add a DVI cable or HDMI cable if you need one

My cable guy left me 50 feet of CAT5 cable for some reason, and everything in my house is wireless. I used my 32 inch TV between monitors and there is a difference. May just be me, but everything just looks better on my monitor. Of course may be my TV, it's 1080p but it's also a few years old.

I use a DVI to HDMI cable because my wall mount covers my DVI port and it wasn't edge to edge when first plugged in. You can change the overscan/underscan option in Control Catalyst to get edge to edge.

My catalyst program acually dosent work lol.so might not be a great idea to get a new monitor till i fix it. I have tried everythign under the sun other than using one of the drive wipe programs (they scare me) to fix it.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of them either. You could always go with a DVI cable. They're not expensive. You wouldn't get any sound but the speakers are tiny anyway.

Monitors are of much much higher quality and have better color reproduction, anti-aliasing, refresh rates, and the list goes on. Gloss black refers to the finish of the panel, not the edges of your screen.

DVI is the way to go for monitors. Display port is another option. I would not suggest using HDMI though, my experience hasn't been the best (sound issues mainly).

Yeah I prefer DVI. I got a great deal on my monitor, the only issue I have is the plugs come out straigt from the back instead of down. Made wall mounting a PITA
