As it stands now, there will be two types of PvP areas. The first is the Coliseum, a structure built by all three Grand Companies to serve as a training ground for their soldiers. Players will join teams and be matched against similarly skilled teams in a classic arena format. The other option is zones designated as free PvP areas, warzones that carry increased risk for players and will make that clear when you're entering them.

right after the part you quoted it says:

"Hoping for more open-world stuff? You'll be slightly disappointed. Yoshida and the other developers don't feel that open-world ganking fits the feel of FFXIV, "

ummm isnt ganking exactly what would/could be going on in those areas?

No, when we enter the zones, we're going to be warned about what we're in for. If someone gets ganked, it's only because they weren't paying attention to where they were going.

precisely but ganked doent only apply to being killed over and over when you KNOW whats going to happen.. it applies to being killed over and over period so even if you know what youre in for and get killed over and over its still being ganked :p

I must have missed that too. Right on, people were asking for that anyway. It should be pretty fun, especially for stealthies down the road Smiley: wink.

Whatever happens with PvP. I hope everyone here is against PvP servers.

I want some competitive team based PvP besides standard melee.
Chocobo leagues, Airship combat, magitek battle circuits, fisherman leagues, etc. Perhaps in the GvG format.

This sounds AWESOME, the perfect blend of PVP and PVE.

Edit: It is good to see such a video being done about this game. Apparently the gaming community is in fact starting to stir as release approaches. At the very least we can say that, so far, Yoshi has earned back an immense amount of player trust.

While I think putting in an arena and letting people get their epeens out can be constructive, zones that in any way contain any types of beneficial goods or resources needs to be PvP free. Alterac Valley is the closest example of PvP that I think FF14 should entertain. As soon as you start balancing the game around PvP, however, the game is over. You lose anything original about your character as they are pigeonholed into clones of one-another to meet "balance". The only way to truly balance something is to homogenize it, and that's a road that you can play in several other games.

No worries, PVP and PVE will be balanced separate from each other.

Also Ganking is when a HIGH level character, kills a low level Character. if you get killed by a guy around you level, is not ganking, neither is getting killed over and over, that is called being stupid.

PvP servers clearly distinguishes a rift of players from each other. You will have the people on PvP servers clamoring for new content while the PvE clamors for their content. Which will send devs into developmental hell and most likely resulting in neither side of PvE or PvP being happy.

Oh c'mon... They could do at least one of those things in an expansion. Galaxies did Jump to Light speed. The only reason not to would be demand or the excuse that it cost too much to implement or bandwidth.

I LOVE that the chocobo can fight along. With Arcanist I hope I can still summon my pet as well as have the chocobo fight, but I doubt very much if that would be allowed.

I'm chomping at the bit.
