I don't mean to sound sour about the release, I am actually pretty pumped. I just wish they would continue to roll out traditional style FF's, and keep their new systems out of it. Does that make sense?

Final Fantasy was one of the innovators of RPGs when it came out. Especially in contrast to the western RPGs of the time.
When Square moved to the ATB system in the games you mentioned, this was an effort to add some more real time elements to the battle system.
Of course in the past 10 years FF has changed it up quite a bit more (and has dabbled with 11, 12, 13) , but it has always been moving towards a real time system.
So I'd argue that a real time system was always the goal and not because of the merger. System limitations in the past prevented SE from realizing the battle system they wanted.

But like I said I hope its strategic as well as realtime. I hope its innovative as well.
Though in the end I didnt play FF for the turn based system. I played for the summons, for the spells, for the limit breaks, for the art, the music and the story.
All of this wasn't to invalidate your feelings, but rather to show that it seems as though realtime battles were always the end goal and that I wouldn't miss them if they're gone.
