So some of us are pretty confused why the dragoon gets a buster sword out of no where. If you could replace dragoons limit break what would you replace it with?

Some people were saying your limit break was role specific, not job specific at that E3 demo. It could be an easter egg for Drk though that they put in to tease people.

We'll find out in a couple of days.

On that note, After watching the E3 Ifrit battle challenge, I paused the screen and noticed the description of the Limit Break icon.
I would like to say what I noticed, but I'm not sure if that would be a violation of NDA or anything... even though I am NOT in beta... Admin would I be OK in stating what I saw, being that it was on the video released?

Why would it be covered in the NDA? You noticed something on a stream they deliberately showed us. Speculate away.

If they released it you can talk about it.

I'd love to see something more vertical, like some kind of super jump with maybe a sonic boom kind of thing at the end.

SaitoMishima posted a link to an image in regards to this in another post, i'll just link here as well... it shows what I noticed.

So I take it that when you are joining a party, you have to select the role you are to fill. Limit Breaks seem ok... the only thing I can see is it getting messy as to WHICH role needs to execute at what time. I can see someone "accidently" using the limit break at the wrong time, or even some fighting over who gets to use it lol Smiley: lol. I guess that's all part of party preparation.

I was thinking along these lines as well. I noticed that the limit break gage was above the party names as if it were a collective function. I think that's a fun way to implement LBs because without proper teamwork and communication, they won't be as effective as they otherwise might be. I can see situations where a new person in a pick-up party might set it off randomly, but I like that it has potential to improve the teamwork dynamic.

LB very interesting. Guess it depends on what's needed at the time.
Also, think this could create friction with players, or fabulous team work depending on
the personalities of the group.

So, no chaining in the game?

Exp chains? Those are in - they give you a time limit to kill the next mob which will yield more exp.

Not sure if that information was posted:

As far as I can tell, Limit Break will be Role specific (and not class/job specific)

Meaning than the tank (Paladin and Warrior) will share theirs Limit Break.
And that Melee DD (DRG, MNK, and probably DRK if it come out) will also share theirs.

Hence why the DRG is handling a Buster Sword.

The Role categories are

Melee DPS
Tank
Healing
Nuking+Range

I'm actually very ok with this being the DRG's limit break, lmao. VERY ok with it. Saw it in that trailer and I was drooling over it when I saw the DRG doin it. XD

I guess it's no more random than Bard being a DPS archer with some utility spells.

I guess this will be answered soon but. We saw monk use final heaven but not omni slash. As far as a I know we have not seen what limit break the warrior has access to.

I hope there are class/job specific limit breaks as well, if not that would be incredibly lame and lazy.

I think is safe to assume since we are still in beta, that the dragoon using clouds limitbreak (Btw it was not omnislash) is a place holder, but we cannot be 100% sure since Kain in IV could use swords, maybe it has something to do with the weapon you are equipped currently which i would be very impress by, since not only could you have one job have different Limit Breaks, but potentially different effects etc etc.

What i would love to have dragoons limit break be, is as soon as you enter limit break, your dragoon jumps and as he comes down you see an aura of a dragon around your dragoon as he dives down to strike, and as he is close to hit, the dragon breath's an element aligned to your weapon, and your dragoon then delivers the jump hit, culminating in an explosion or some flashy thing. Smiley: lol

That's what I was thinking, Jump is iconic DRG and you need some pop at the end.

It's true that we're in beta testing and there's a lot we don't know yet, but the fact that it was shown in an official trailer at E3 (and only 3 months from launch) tells me it isn't a placeholder. We'll just have to wait and see.

Again, coming from a loyal dragoon player of FFXI, that played for many years.. I'm TOTALLY ok with this being the Drg's Limit Break. Zero complaints. *wipes drool from mouth*

If there's anything I'd complain about when it comes to drg honestly, it's the lack of a dragon being around you in any way shape or form. Even if it's just like a pet you raise on the side and could ride instead of the chocobo that would then fight with you or something.. That'd work. It doesn't have to be a core mechanic or anything, but there really should be a dragon present in some way shape or form.

They can't just go and take little buddy away like that and not replace him with something new. They just.. they can't! :<:<:<:<:<

I would have preferred more of a Highwind/Airship FF7 Cid reference, but a Buster Sword is fine too. It's nothing that's make or break, but it was an odd choice. I thought a Buster Sword would be better for a Great Sword class or something.

Can't remember if it was here or elsewhere, but one of the ifrit battlers described telling their team that they would handle the limit break, as if it were collective. They activated the gladiator's limit prior to hellfire.

An odd team mechanic if that is the final version.

Possible that it includes both aspects? As in the functionality is similar for each role, but the animation is unique? So DRG uses Omnislash (as it stands - a man disagrees with this) OR MNK uses Final Heaven - but both function as single target dmg. PLD gets giant wall, WAR gets primal roar (idk, just making it up) - but both boost party defence significantly. And so on ...

Someone in the beta forums has allegedly hacked the .dat files for the latest update and has the names of each of the limit breaks.

These limit breaks do appear to be role rather than class specific which would explain the sudden strange appearance of a sword in the hands of a lancer/drg.

Each of DPS/Caster/Healer/Tank get access to three limit breaks in increasing strengths.

edit: Tried to picture showing names and descriptions of all available limit breaks but I fail at the internet.
