How does the controller setup on pc handle?

The biggest concern that pops into my head is the pc hotbar versus the ps3 crossbar for executing commands and attacks. If you're using a controller with the pc version does it synergize with the hotbar to allow full control or are you able to switch to the crossbar settings or something?

When I played XI it was on my ps2 so I got really used to using a controller but through all the years it was always a pain jumping between the controller and keyboard whenever i needed to say anything. I'm still stuck between deciding on which version of the game to go for based pretty much on how well the controller setup works for the pc version compared to the ps3 version. I want to have the utility of being able to act and type at the same time but be able to fall back on a controller when I'm alone or just fighting without losing out on too much of the utility.

PS3 == PC except for 1 thing. The PS3 start menu.

The PC controller UI doesn't have that so you would press "start" to access the menu at the bottom right side.

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

I think I noticed someone mention the start menu's differing between the versions before.

How does the pc menu look/work? The ps3 version popping up over the entire screen was a bit jarring for me, if the pc version pops up out of the corner is it more like the menu system from XI or something similar?

Keyboard with the ps3 and controller?

Anybody using both in game? Is the hotbar sync with the keyboard 'F' keys or can you have keyboard macros and
ps3 controller macros.

I kind of prefer how it was before (in 1.23). The controller UI looks very sleek, but for every command you need to hold down LT and RT, which have a bit of resistance. So, constantly holding those buttons down for the entire time you're playing does get annoying on your fingers.

I heard there might be a setting coming up where you don't have to hold them down, but I don't know.

The PS3 currently has options to change that. The default mode requires holding down the trigger but there's also a toggle mode that retains the last trigger hit until you hit the other or toggle it off. There's also a third mode that somehow combines the two but I never tried it out.

Killua125 is to ZAM as Rokien/Birdhair are to FF. I don't actually think it plays and if it does it loves to troll. Because any sensible person would go through the game settings. Unless of course people don't go into game settings anymore and just assume the developers only give them 1 option >.>

I would still probably use the controller. I only use mouse and keyboard when there is no controller option, or it's a shooter... just for comfort.

I'm not sure if you'll have to sacrifice any efficiency in endgame while on a controller, but hopefully not. I haven't reached that point yet.

I know that doesn't answer your questions, but I just felt like commenting on ARR's controller support. Yeah, if you plug a controller into the PC version, it switches to the PS3 UI (if I didn't make that clear). The good thing about PC is that you'll have access to voice chat programs (unlike PS3 users), so playing with your Linkshell and friends shouldn't be a problem, but for random PUGs and public chat you will have to go back and forth to your keyboard.

There is an option for cross hotbar to toggle, hold, or hybrid.

I used a PS2 controller on PC when I played FFXI. It was great.

I am currently using a 360 controller on PC for FFXIV. I agree that holding down the trigger is annoying when issuing commands, but I don't think it is a big deal. I know if I played with mouse and keyboard, my mouse hand would get too tired, constantly holding down the mouse button for view changes. I played a lot of Borderlands 2 so it was something I noticed when playing with mouse and keyboard.

I can see how going from controller to typing on a keyboard when talking can be kinda annoying, but if you're going to be doing that, maybe switch to keyboard and mouse at certain times and use the controller for other situations.

If one was to use a controller with a PC, would it be possible to configure the controller for a PTT option when using any VOIP? Or would that only be able to be configured on the keyboard?

Being that the controller has limited buttons when compared to the keyboard, is there a way to maybe do a button combination for the PTT? Idea idea of always having your mic pick up noise might eventually get annoying to others.

Not 100% sure because I didn't test it out myself but I heard a lot of shouting about people unable to get mouse support. Seems like the keyboard may be purely for typing support if that's the case.
