Need an ElaborationFollow

#1 Jun 16 2013 at 5:44 PM Rating: Decent
I am new (even thought I've been reading posts about everything since last year) and I have finally come across something that I need more of an elaboration on. I haven't been able to find the answer myself, and there is a possibility that this answer is out there and I just happened to miss it. If that is the case I am extremely sorry. So here it is:

I know your starting area is dependent on which class you choose.

If I read everything correctly at lvl 10 you can change classes and lvl 15 you can go anywhere and dungeons open...

In FFXi there were missions specific to starter cities (if I'm not mistaken) which in that case if you and a friend where playing together and started in different cities you could not do the city specific missions together but you could participate in the battle...correct? <.... sorry if I'm wrong on this

How will FFXIV play out? Will there be city specific quests after lvl 15 or is it more like WoW where you do all the fun starter stuff to get you good and acquainted with the game then everything melds together. I hope I am making sense.

The major thing is I want to start as a Conjurer to go for WHM my friend wants to start as a PUG to go for MNK, once we reach lvl 15 where we can meet and form a party we should be able to do everything together or will there still be quests that are specific to where we started?

Thanks in advance for any help and answers I get for this.

You can do quests in all 3 city's, but the storyline missions are city specific until you get to a certain point, much like FF XI. However, all the missions i have done so far have instanced battles that are solo only. I don't know if that changes later on or not.

This is what free companies are for. A free company can have an allegiance to a nation and you can go through the storyline through that.

Also- starting cities and classes correspond to where the guilds are
Gridania: archer lancer conjurer
Limsa: marauder, arcanist
Ul'dah: pugilist thaumaturge and gladiator

That's wonderful! This is the first time I've heard about free companies!! Thank you for also giving me the list for the classes!!

So with the free companies can you make them as soon as you start the game or does it have to be after a certain lvl?

Thanks so much for helping me out!

Also i do not know for sure but story line missions are probably solo missions because of the cutscenes etc i would think. I know for a fact though that the class quests are solo only.

I am not sure but i think at least in beta phase 2 the companies were at level 20 or something? Can anyone help on this one?

It makes zero sense that your class dictates your starter city. So many people are gonna end up switching once they hit level 10 anyway, so what's the point? They should just let you pick.

To be honest i do not like it either. Someone made the same thread/post in the beta forums and everyone started saying nonsense and thus why i do not post in the forums unless to report a bug or for feedback.

There is one reason that they might have that and that is so that they would force people to spread out in all the worlds. Hoping that players will use all the cities equal i guess? Not really very smart since the limitations end at level 15.

Overal it is not a huge issue since again it's only until level 15 but nevertheless i myself would also like to start from the city i want.

It helps to get people started on their class quests right away.

I agree it is different and very confusing since a lot of people will party and want to do all the same quest etc.... the only thing I can think of is they maybe tried to pull a leaf from WoW because I know each class has their own starter city that they do then once they hit a certain lvl they leave the starter city and go out into the world.

Free companies def make my life easier. We are having four people total start (family mostly) and so far we all start in all the different areas so we will be scattered.

So when you hit lvl 10 does that mean you can change to any class you want to or do you have to be in the city that has the guild in which you want to make the class change?

You do the level 10 class quest for that initial class. Then you can start other classes by visiting their guilds. Which I think is explained during the ending dialogue of that level 10 class quest.

Ok so far free companies sound like the way to go for us. Thank y'all so much this has been most helpful!! Another thing, in FFxi you know how you had to kneel and wait for your MP/HP to gradually come back I noticed in the beta of ffxiv when running around MP/HP accumulated so you didn't ever need to kneel. Is this a beta thing or is that how they implemented MP/HP return?

It auto-regenerates automatically, slower when you're in battle.

I was a little worried about not being able to pick your starting city but it's ridiculously easy to get to 15 by questing only and if you are doing the main missions (you really should) then you will automatically get an Airship pass and easily be able to move between cities.

I was worried about not having classes for instanced dungeons because they will be in their own starting city, but before you can even do the dungeons you need to have progressed through the missions and have beaten them all. It was easy to get groups going for the dungeons even without the duty finder, and I liked that you got to experience each of them as a part of the missions.
