I started off in Lisma, and it was pretty. Recently made a Ul'Dah character and I'm in love with the city already. The areas outside are amazing as well. Making me rethinking rolling an Archer as I want to stay in this city. I'll see how the 3rd city is tomorrow!

What is your favourite city so far then?

Archer is at Gridania if i am not mistaken, at least thats where their guild is.

As for Uldah yea i liked it quite a lot to be honest. I start as a THM and the city is pretty awesome i agree. I don't like the desert like outside to be honest but not because it is not well made but just cause i don't like the desert all together.

Gridania was pretty awesome in that aspect and i liked that city a lot in phase 2 as well.

Limsa is the one i have the less time in. It does look great as well but for me now its pretty confusing.

Honestly, Limsa is now my least favourite, compliments of limited guild/class access.

Ul'dah has PUG, GLA, and THM as well as Goldsmith, Alchemy, Weaving and Mining. Gridania has Archer, Lancer and Conjurer as well as, Carpenter and Leatherworking.

Limsa get MRD only in Beta, Arcanist in release, and Blacksmith, Armorer and Culinarian... Two of three need you to travel to another city to even perform without buying all your mats....

Yea, rolling another job next time.

Gotta admit before getting into the beta I was thinking Ul'dah would be at the bottom of the 3 for me. After doing up to the level 15 scenario quests and the cutscene for the airship and the sultana and seeing all the city. I think it's moved on top. Limsa gets the short end of the stick with class distribution but I love its music. Gridianias prolly at 3rd for changing the least >.> Though the girl that leads the vipers seems interesting. lol

After exploring all three cities and their surrounding areas, by far Limsa, then Grid, and finally Ul'dah. Limsa has some of the most awesome looking area's. Gridania is really pretty too. Ul'dah, is a desert... Dirt, and lots of dirt. I don't like dirt, but.... My home is Ul'dah.

I've only been in Limsa and Gridania, but of the two, I like Gridania the best.

I haven't seen Limsa yet (or the remaking of it rather), but I have to say I prefer Uldah over Gridania. The Shroud areas all look absolutely beautiful, but Gridania just looks... plain to me somehow.

Plus, Uldah's night music is absolutely gorgeous and the day (outside of the Superman motif at the start) is very close to the same chord progression as Windurst so it's doubly good in my opinion.

I really wanted to like Gridania because I love foresty areas. It is pretty but it feels claustrophobic. I found myself preferring Ul'dah over the other city states. It reminds me a little bit of Bastok (my favorite city in FFXI) and has some Rabao like areas near it. For some reason Thanalan gives me the most nostalgia too. There are these little music tracks that roll in from time to time inside and outside of the city that remind me a lot of the music from previous games. The area outside of the city is very open and the camps are interesting. The little tavern with the order taking quest is so cool. It was my favorite in 1.0 and it looks like it'll be my favorite in 2.0 too. Desert oasis areas like that give off a feeling of mystery and culture for me.

*It's nice to see a good spread of people's preference. Seems like this game has something for everybody.

I like Uldah as a city, I like Gridania though more for surrounding area. (reminds me of SarutaBaruta) have not been to the other one, nor do I recall the name.

Ul'Dah feels like the spiritual successor of Bastok so I feel right at home there. Dust and dirt were my old friends in FF11 as I honed my Red Mage and Beastmaster.

I can hear the old Gustaburg music now.. /tear

I was born a Taru and raised a poor RDM in the big city of Windurst myself....but I promptly left that place because my god did it suck to get around....Bastokan Taru, and yes that is why I love Ul'Dah too, reminds me of home, before I was sucked into the void and deposited on this strange new world.

Honestly how I feel in general.

I was uldah in 1.0, and gridania for beta; I want to leave LL untouched and roll arcanist to have that fresh ARR experience at launch. So far I like all the cities, but the uldah story and characters aren't as interesting to me as girdania. I also dig the ocean vibe in LL.

I was a Bastokan in FFXI, so I naturally gravitated to Ul'dah in 1.0. I've tried Grid and LL the past two beta weekends and now I don't know where I want to start at launch. My highest class is MRD, but I'm not sure I want to start in LL. Grid and Ul'dah have classes and areas that I really like. It will possibly come down to a coin toss between those two.

Haha nice observation. It totally is Las Vegas, I don't know why that didn't cross my mind before.

A Cactus that hates the Desert how sad Smiley: grin I personally have always liked Gridania but Uldah is so easy to get around. Limsa has always been pretty but I hate travelling around the place.

Ul'Dah's music is simply goregous!
#19 Jun 23 2013 at 7:05 PM Rating: Good
The scenery in Limsa is nice, but getting around still requires me opening up my map every 30 seconds. Ul'dah seemed ok for the short time I spent there, and Gridania was definitely nice and brought me back some Windurstian memories. So toss up between Limsa and Grid...and Grid probably wins simply cause I enjoy nature's them!

I like Ul'dah the most, but of the surrounding area, Limsa's environment is my favorite.

And does anyone start hearing Kingdom Hearts 2 in some of the battle music?

I started in Ul'dah and personally didn't care for the inner castle parts of the zone. The walls are tall, bland, and blocky. However the Outdoors areas are really well done. Gridania Seemed to have the best layout to me so far and the scenery is pleasant. I didn't spend much time in Limsa but I have a feeling it will be my favorite area. The Aethernet crystals are well placed there from what I've seen and the views are amazing.

I'm probably going to roll MAR just so it is my hometown and I can do the quests for it.

This is my dilemma. My 1.0 char's highest class is 12 MRD. I want to start there for his class quests, but because I like Grid and Ul'dah so much I'm thinking of starting a new class elsewhere. Limsa does have some beautiful areas.

Decisions, decisions.

I say start in your favorite city. You can blast through to 15 in a full day of playing no problem. Leveling MRD might be slower if they don't add in more quests to do outside of your starting area, but it still goes by pretty quick with Logs, FATEs and Levequests. Besides, you won't mind taking it slower on your favorite job. :D

I like the changes to Uldah and the surrounding areas enough to start there. I only briefly visited Gridania and Limsa and while they were OK and better than 1.0, I felt more of a connection with Uldah.

I am hoping for a higher level hub like Jeuno to come around. I was hoping Ishgard was going to be that place, but who knows?
