I'm looking to pre-order a couple physical copies of the game soon, and I was wondering what the best place to get them from would be. I was assuming that getting them directly from SE would be the best bet, but I think some mentioned having to pay shipping. Also, what places are most likely to promptly give the early access codes? Thanks in advance.

Depends on your region.

I suggest amazon. I hear a lot of people are having a hard time getting their early access codes, but amazon seems to be sending them out within minutes of preordering. I got mine almost immediately when I preordered from amazon.

Indeed, Amazon has great customer services (or at least from my experiences). If i recall rightly shipping is free if you spend at least 20 bucks or so and they should send you a courier.

I read in another post that SE won't cancel orders; Amazon does allow orders to be canceled. Amazon does charge for shipping if you're not a Prime member, but SE does also so no difference there. Also, Amazon's business is shipping items, and their customer service is very helpful. For me, it made more sense to buy from Amazon.

I pre-ordered 2 copied of the PS3 Collector's Edition from GameStop, when should I get those codes?

It was the same for me. I didn't trust other retailers to be as on-the-ball with early access codes.

If you have a store in the area, preorder from them:

Gamestop
Bestbuy
Walmart

Then you can go to that store on the release day and pick it up. The preorder code was on my receipt.

Places like Amazon, because they mail out thousands, may not get to you on the release day, and may be delayed up to a week! (Its happened to me. - I had first ordered FF11 expansion from Amazon, and it took 11 days. I went to a store and got it from Bestbuy to play. When the Amazon copy came, i sold it.)

August 27. I will walk to Gamestop and pick mine up, come back home, get the updates and play.

Really you don't need to worry about getting the software day of, since you will already have the early access, there will be nothing you need to load lol

Ugh, wish Amazon had the PC CE version.

How does their download version work? I've only used Steam for digital downloads.

Is this true? Because I wanted to buy the boxed PC Collector's Edition but will also be traveling the whole month of August. Can I continue to log in with my early access passwords and not need the box?

The phase 4 client and the final release version should be the same, with updates as mentioned above, so you shouldn't need to install anything. I could be wrong, so if anyone knows for sure please correct me.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure because I didn't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere (Rhode Island) with no code to play.

I mean, Rhode Island. It's almost as bad as Delaware.

Problem is their free shipping it could take a week just to send the product out..
If you use two day shipping they will have it on launch day. I have never had a issue with this shipping method.
You can sign up for prime and get 2 days shipping free but prime costs money but is free for a month to try.

Hmm, I bought from the SE store and I don't remember seeing my code, though I may not have looked hard enough. Anyway I definitely recommend Amazon, they're the best.

I myself have had one hell of a time trying to pre-order FFXIV:ARR.

I first pre-ordered the game back in late-March, from Amazon.ca. They had sent me an e-mail telling me that FFXIV:ARR would be out April 30th...yeah, didn't happen. After the game wasn't released in April, they changed the release date to October 31st, but also switched the game's page to this:

http://www.amazon.ca/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Reborn-Square/dp/B008R6Y7PS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1372281532&sr=8-2&keywords=ffxiv%3Aarr

"Currently unavailable"? And, even after the game was officially announced as being released August 27th, they didn't change the release date from October 31st. I actually e-mailed them a week after the date was announced, had to tell them when the release date was, and asked them if I was still going to receive the game. They replied two days later, basically saying "we'll look into it, and get back to you"...they never did. In fact, although they changed the release date on the game's page, my order still proclaimed I'd get it October 31st.

So, after getting no answers from them, I cancelled my pre-order with Amazon.ca, and checked with EB Games.ca. When I went to order the game, it said that it'd arrive in mid-September, at which point I didn't even bother ordering it.

Luckily, there's an EB Games just down the street from me, so I pre-ordered it face-to-face with them...but didn't get a pre-order code. I had to e-mail them, and they did finally send me a code, so good on them for that.

All that being said, two guys I know proclaim that Amazon.com has been efficient with his pre-order code and game information, so I'd say they're a good source. EB Games/GameSpot would be my choice, though you might have to rattle some chains to get a pre-order code...

Me too. As it is, I'm still waiting for SE support to get back to me on why I can't login using my SE account. So far, it's been 6 business days and counting while I wait for my support ticket to get attention.

Thanks for the info/advice everyone. I think I'll probably go with Amazon since I absolutely hate giving my money to Game Stop. Now I have to decide if i really want to get the CE or not. I'll probably end up ordering one CE and one Regular copy for my g/f (I just ordered the parts to build her a sexy twin of my PC :D). Has anyone ordered multiple copies? will they be sure to give me both codes at once?

Gamestop's site as well as store information was outdated until E3. Then their site updated and their stores did.
I had called them about the errors on their site and they were aware, and have since fixed it 2nd day of E3.

Did you delete all your cookies and temp files?

Cheers!

It sounds like they were trying to preorder you the PS4 version, if I had to guess.

Gamestops are hit-and-miss. Has a lot to do with the employee pool they draw from, I suppose.

I love my Gamestop, though. Less than a mile away, always friendly, never any issues. The ones in the malls around me, though... ugh. Any time I can buy something from a brick-and-mortar I'll do so, and they haven't disappointed me yet.
