You and me both! Ever since this scene:

The only thing I've ever wanted was a gun...

Are the rain effects worse, the same, or better than this?

As far as I've encountered, it doesn't go into that much detail. You see it falling. I didn't notice rain falling from my equipment nor did I notice it making rain spots on glass if I looked up. It also didn't make puddles on the ground. It does make sloshing sounds when you run around though and water splashes at your feet.

i have for sure seen rain in each of the starting cities... and ive seen lightning in the ul'dah starter area as well... both were amazing but the lightningi could have just sat and watch it for a good while! other than that nothing but fog from the rain and such no other major effects that i have noticed...

Wow, the graphics in that cut scene almost had me thinking they were CGI at first. I can really notice the downgrade in 2.0. The mouths in particular are a great deal better than ARRs. However, ARR is still beautiful and more than enough for my tastes.

Unless they reveal around phase 4 that the battle system will be completely different, I honestly don't think so, not much left really to shock & awe.

If you dig around a bit we already know all there is to know besides the story after the Waking Sands. Well we can't say what we see is what we get, since SE has stated they upped the difficulty on some of the dungeons purely for beta, which means they're actually going to be toned down on launch, so this straight line progression we have will at launch as that's "MMO standard" now, but we haven't seen much in regards to end-game aside what we've mined up and seen in concept (like old FF bosses being in crystal tower.)

So bombshells? Nah, we'll hear more about the story in the next month for sure though.

What is the logic behind increasing the difficulty of the dungeons pre-launch, and then decreasing them for launch?

Well I hate to break it to you but this game is trying to be as far away from FFXI as possible as FFX is outdated and talking about it when compared to this game is blasphemy around here so wanting anything from FFXI in FFXIV makes you a nostalgic fanboy.... just giving you a heads up.

Oh give it a rest... the game has PLENTY of similarities to ffxi. Not to mention, many of us on this site, myself included, are ex-ffxi players who very much enjoyed the game. I like that there are certain things from ffxi incorporated, such as similar races, starting cities, mobs, armor designs, items, etc. I also like that there is a lot different, as I really didn't want a ffxi-2. Stop being so dramatic. Sheesh.

On topic, I don't think we'll have any earth-shattering reveals before launch, but I fully expect some stuff that makes me go "Oh wow, cool".

Probably to give MMO vets and Legacy players some hope that the game might actually have some challenge later on.

I still think it's odd to have only one job tree for release. I'm on the bandwagon for a surprise job announcement.

There's so many NPCs in the storyline that use guns, I'd like to be able to use them myself!

I for one hope they go with Musketeer to Gunner similar to FFTA, with ranged debuffing (or hey even buffing) shots. Throw in some of the neat shots from FFX-2 and you might end up with a class thats useful and unique enough to warrant a party slot.

I think any new big surprise at this point wouldn't suddenly make someone subscribe. If they get the battle system down to where it's somewhat unique, polished, and deep at release. That could really draw in people who are not FF fanatics.

Any new big surprise would be best left for the initial expansions to create anticipation and cement longing to see what's next.

FFXIV is actually a single player game and all the people we were interacting with were NPCs all along.... dun dun dun.
