Hey guys, here's a pretty useful guide for those who want to unlock the quest for Dyeing armor: Seriously some of the armor in the game need a serious recolor (it has to match my skin and hair you know!)

I need to do this when the servers go live so I can stop running around in pink sabatons.

It's funny how they don't mention the Potwatch NPC in Ul'dah having Orange Juice. I mean, if you're starting there ANYWAY...

I have a feeling that Alchemy will be able to make some dyes as well. The official sites claim that there are a lot of recipes that they have yet to add to the game, so hopefully that will be one of the things to be put in.

I wouldn't mind the pink sabatons so much if I wasn't wearing a red jacket, yellow gloves, blue pants and a purple helmet...I look like a schizophrenic easter egg.

I'm not sure if this was posted here or not but you can also use this as a reference to save your Gil, since there are no previews.

Is there a reference to show what dye combinations create new colors or am I still buying everything to know them all?

But black makes me look "cool" and "badass" and like a dark hero 'n stuff. :O

Anyway, thanks for the guide. I only had a short amount of time to putz around with the dyes, and this is a huge help as far as helping people decide colors.

Oh Altana, That reminds me of searching for dyes in GW2. I had a feeling that white and black would be more expensive than other colors, but when I found them they were several hundred gold. This was quite a bit considering many of the other dyes were only a few silver.

There are a lot more NPC's that sell orange juice, you are right. We just wanted to post the nearest possible vendor in. Though, you have a point it may be easier to just teleport back to Ul'dah and ride a chocobo back to Vesper bay... Will try this out when beta comes back up! Thanks for the feedback

We included this resource in our guide and gave credit to the author as well. Thanks for the heads up!

Just remember, once you dye black, you can't go back.

I remember (vaguely) an early fetch quest in Ul'Dah where I needed to survey people's colour preferences, to find the best dye colour for a ball or some such. The poll results were then taken to the Alchemists' Guild, to create the dye. So, this would lead me to believe that Alchemy may well contain dyes at some point of the craft.

The absolute quickest way to do the dye quest if you don't want to go out of your way (for the Ul'dah people at least) is to go through the main quest line. One of the quests that has you go back to Waking Sands will reward you with 10 Orange Juice. After that, it's just hopping outside and talking to the quest NPC before you leave the area. The coincidence of the reward and the request makes me feel that the juice request is specifically because of this quest reward.

But for those who aren't at that point yet, yes, Ul'dah's the quickest option based on the starting point in the guide. I mention the above, however, because there is no guarantee that the vendor stock won't change from Phase 3 -> Phase 4.

I don't like how you can't dye the armor you get from dungeons, makes it pointless to dye the rest of your gear. Unless there is some way I don't know of?

I'm glad to see that there are already variations on specific colors. I'd hate to only have one shade of blue.

I agree, that is a nice attention to detail.

There isn't yet, but that doesn't mean there won't in the future. I know Yoshida mentioned not letting us dye AF because he doesn't want us to ruin it... I say it ruins it not to let us customize our characters in simple ways that make them feel like their more original and better represents how we see them.

I can see both sides of that, but it gets a bit quirky if you're a White Mage wearing all black. Probably better to hope for wardrobe options where you could where the AF (if it's good stats), but borrow the look of some other armor you can dye.

Can anyone say Hot-pink Sabotons with Lime-green harness and subligar on a giant male Rogyden??? Yeah, that's gonna be me! (Now if I can find my star-spangled Subligar, I might try and work a color scheme for that...)
