It means that when they are satisfied that the duty finder works as intended and they have not seen any critical problems with the game, P3 will end.

Some time after that (a week or two), P4 will open with P3 characters wiped.

Since they don't know what problems might crop up with the duty finder, they don't know how long this phase will last for certain, although my understanding is that it's supposed to be more than just the weekend, since they want to test the stability of the servers over a longer period of time.

Actually, there's a new dev post just posted recently:

Quote:

Thank you for your participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Regarding the implementation of the duty finder, the final QA testing on the system's stability has been completed and will be available at the start of the next beta test, which is on July 5th at 2:00a.m. (PDT) / 9:00 (GMT).

Please see here for the testing details.

Also along with the implementation of the duty finder, FFXIV Developers' Commentary "Duty Finder," a walkthrough video on the duty finder, has been released. Please take a look before you participate in the test.

We look forward to your active participation in the beta test for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn!

So it sounds like we will have Duty Finder straight away, but still no end date announced is quite dubious Smiley: dubious

If the duration of p3 part 4 affects the start date of p4, I would rather wrap up p3 as soon as possible. Hopefully there are a lot of people working on stress testing the duty finder this weekend! I guess I'll be running a lot of dungeons this weekend Smiley: grin

I'd rather that the game is completely stable and free of critical bugs when P4 starts, so that we don't get our characters wiped at the end of P4.

If they rush P4 and then have to wipe everything halfway through because of some bug they failed to catch in P3... there will be a lot of sad pandas. And by "sad," I mean "nerd raging."

I thought that the phase 3 toons won't be wiped out if there are no problems.

Phase 3 is being wiped. Just to be clear, phase three is the entire series of weekends that have led up to and include this one. If you made a character last weekend, it has not been wiped (yet).

So the wipe won't happen until after this weekend, unless there's another weekend in P3, in which case it will be even longer.

After that, P4 starts. Those characters MAY or MAY NOT be wiped, depending on whether or not they find critical problems that require a wipe.

Once the "early start" gets here, there won't be any more server wipes.

Does anyone happen to know if there will be any servers at launch that will be completely fresh? As in, no one from phase 4 with pre-leveled characters in them?

They haven't announced anything like that. Fact of the matter is though, phase 4 is open beta.. all you need to sign up for it is a pulse. Phase 4 could (under some interpretations) be considered the launch of the game.

I never suggested abandoning beta for an early release. In fact, I suggested exactly the opposite. If you read my post, I simply said that I hoped the devs achieve their goal as quickly as possible. The purpose of this beta weekend is, primarily, to stress test the duty finder, and I simply stated that I hoped the test can be completed quickly as opposed to turning this into a longer than necessary test.

Don't legacy players get to bring their 1.0 and/or alpha characters in at some point though? I think that might be why there are legacy servers. It doesn't do much good to start anew there if you have a hard time finding people who need to do the same quests as you. Either way they all get a head start on the official launch.

Yes, that's exactly what legacy servers are for. Legacy players will re-import their 1.0 characters at the beginning of phase 4 just like they did at phase 3; still limited to legacy servers.

Wait, is it confirmed that random people can just come up, download the phase 4 beta game and start playing? Don't they still need to sign up, wait for email confirmation and code, before they can start? If SE has said this, could someone direct me to it please?

Not in so many words, but yeah... that's generally what Open Beta entails. Open generally means they'll just give beta access to anyone who asks for it.

Now, could SE have a different idea about that? Sure.. but pretty much anything less than that isn't Open Smiley: tongue

Well that's disappointing.. guess I'll wait for phase 4 or next weekend. Depends on SE's plans.

What? I'm thrilled that it ended early. The fastest we are out of phase 3, the closer we get to phase 4 where the fun really starts.

I'm confused here, some people are saying phase 3 is over and others are not. I realize they're trying to move to phase 4 soon, but most people thought phase 4 wouldn't start until Aug1. The website link posted doesn't say beta 3 is over, just this weekend test is over. Anyways, I'm confused so help me out.

In Yoshi's last letter, I thought he said we were only half way through phase 3. And the letter came out after the third weekend. So I would guess its not over, but who knows.
