I made a helpful guide mostly for myself for launch but I hope this might help others as well. If you guys like these I will continue them as I lvl higher. :)
lvl 1-15

lvl 16-20

This guide will just show you where spots on maps are so you dont go crazy looking. ( I already did that for you heh) and which items drop in which zones. Might help with cooking and other crafts as well.

I have a question about mining/harvesting. In order to see a level 10 node do you have to be at least level 6 and a level 15 at least level 11 and so on?

Have you had a lot of gains with botany leves? I read a post on a site called "eorzea reborn" where the author asserts that the xp gains from botany leves aren't "worthy of your time", and that leves are best saved for DoH classes. I personally haven't tested this; do you have an opinion on the matter?

I didn't find it that bad following the Gathering Log, since the detection abilities are zone wide, but to save you some pain:

Level 20:
(East Shroud)
Lush Vegetation, immediately SE of Hawthorne Hut: Galago Mint, Belladonna, Gil Bun, Wind Shard
Mature Tree, immediately W and SW of Hawthorne Hut, including one node up the hill: Yew Log, Yew Branch, Wind Shard, Faerie Apple

(Western La Noscea)
Mature Trees, right outside of Aleport -- Ice Shard, Grade 3 Dark Matter, Grade 1 Carbonized Matter
Lush Vegetation, one section east of Aleport where the Fat Dodos are -- Ice Shard, Paprika, Lalafellin Lentil, Popoto

(Eastern Thanalan)
Lush Vegetation, SSE of Camp Drybone -- Fire Shard, White Scorpion, Vanilla Bean, Millioncorn

(Central Thanalan)
Mature Tree, just south of Black Brush IIRC -- Lightning Shard, Nopales

(Lower La Noscea)
Mature Tree, (Don't remember exact location or shard element), I think near The Grey Fleet -- Sun Lemon, (Earth Shard?)

Level 25:
(South Shroud)
Mature Tree, west exit of Quarrymill: Walnut Log, Gridanian Walnut, Matron's Mistletoe, Ice Shard

I haven't bothered looking for the Lush Vegetation yet, because I don't need any of the ingredients yet, but they are in Eastern Thanalan and Upper La Noscea, per the Gathering Log.

Hrmm I like the leves because I get the exp from gathering than a bonus from the quest It might not be as good as DoH leves due to no getting bonus from grouping up. But right now im done lvling my classes and focusing on getting rdy for phase 4 :)

Gathering Leves are worthless unless you have too much crap in your inventory anyway, and want to stick around just a bit longer before heading back to town.

Any gains you get from the completion bonus pales in comparison to harvesting items that can have an HQ result with the capped (15%) result, and you don't have to run there and back to the leve giver. Getting an HQ item adds +200% XP to what you get, and now that harvesting higher level items doesn't plummet as drastically, this can result in a lot of XP.

Could you explain this in a little more depth? When I'm harvesting (lvl 10 right now) I don't even see anything with an HQ% next to it.

Thanks

The hq % will appear as a smaller text percentage value below the nq % text for each item. When you get your whisperer traits or % up abilities unlocked, you will be able to those values increase when the ability or trait is activated.
