Im So Done WithThis!Follow

#27REDACTED, Posted: Jul 15 2013 at 4:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was on this server. Yea no shouts, was like a ghost town. Seems most people had fun. I felt bored, but someone said it was because started on the worst city. It was my first time playing and I did the great axe job. I didn't get to play enough to get airship pass. Hence I as stuck with one job and two crafts. It did feel like a WoW clone tome. Some parts were kinda cool.

It sounds like he or she played for about 3 days. That's long enough to form a first impression, IMO. I've certainly played video games for less time than that before uninstalling.

I disagree with Kim's conclusion, but that doesn't mean he or she is wrong.

I'm anxious to just get started. I tried to not get too invested before the wipe so I didn't do all that much. I played all three cities story lines then all combat classes to their level 15 quest. Had a lot of fun. On a side note when I was on my legacy character on Ridill it was a ghost town like some people were saying earlier. I created a character on my soon to be server Hyperion and it was hopping. People running around everywhere, shouted convos in almost every zone.

I'm really excited too. I didn't spend too much time in the Phase 3 beta, just ran around the starting zones and messed with the new character creator for the most part, so it's all still pretty fresh for me. I'm already set on my character's new look and what Classes/Jobs I'll be leveling first. I'm good to go.

More like 3 hours.

I played for about 20 to 30 hours. But most the time was solo and it was my first time playing it. I didn't unlock the inn until ten hours before server went down. The leaves about four hours. Not really sure what duty, fate and leaves are. I mean know they are for exp and level up. But it seemed they were meant to be small group party events and I didn't see anyone besides two or three people on the server.

One guy who was French and knew no English. One guy who did show me how to do a crafting, and one guy who played since 1.0. The crafter guy did try to take me to another city but he couldn't. He said the city with "lower docks, upper docks" was to far away and impossible to reach other cities. Until I got airship pass. Thus I couldn't change jobs even if I had a weapon.
I did get a smn weapon but didn't make it to the city to unlock that quest. Before the server went down, I was doing my third duty, when a horde of bandits was attacking some village in western lands. I really wanted to try out blm though.

But you walked outside the city, you saw mandies, guebe's ladybugs, sheep, pugils, and other ffxi mobs. I only saw one mob in my whole time that was not ffxi, and that was a bug that looked like a kite. Pretty cool I admit.

Most the fights were heavy swings, and two other great axe skills.

If had an extra day and got the pass or access to other cities to try jobs my opinion may changed. But was just lacking people to figure things out and do things with. The manga jo salvages was interesting to see in the boat fight.

I did wish more mobs would agro you or drop items. I lost track of how many mandies I would kill, pugs, or such and no item ever dropped. If you play ffxi, you walk outside a main city, you can agro a yag, gob, orc or other mob. Outside of wolves, no mob ever attacked me first. I never had to be careful for that. But maybe I didn't progress far enough in the game.

The camera moving all over was insane though. Even when locked I would have to adjust it over and over. Why could it not be simple like ffxi. See everything around you with no problem.

Maybe someone can explain leaves, dutys and fates to me though. What do these do and why are they needed verses questing or killing monsters for exp. Oh and I never did a dungeon raid so no opinion on that.

Hey Kim, sorry you had such a rough go of it. To answer some of your questions, there actually are a ton of mobs that aggro, but most are level 10-15+. In the higher level zones, there are progressively more mobs that will aggro. In terms of marauder skills, you are correct that at low levels you don't have a ton of options. But once you can unlock other classes, you are able to equip cross-class skills, which really opens things up. My level 16 mrd had a pretty decent-size rotation, which changed depending on if I was solo or in a group. For solo, I would equip cross-class damage buffing skills like raging strike and internal release. For group stuff, I would equip skills like Flash, Second Wind. This really opens up the versatility a lot.

As far as FATEs, the basic premise is that you find one that's going on, join in the fray with others fighting the mobs (can be done solo or in a group), and kill everything there, or gather items, or defend NPCs, etc. At the end, you get an XP bonus for how well you contributed. It sounds like unfortunately you picked a server that wasn't very active, or were on at a time that wasn't very popular. Also, since you started in Limsa Lominsa, you were at a disadvantage numbers-wise, because there are only currently 2 classes that start there (or is it only mrd?). On launch there will be more, but right now it is less crowded.

Leves are basically like dailies in other games. They are meant to be done solo or in a group, and have scaling difficulty based on level. The higher the difficulty you choose, the more likely you are to see random treasure chests or NMs pop up in them. I think this happens more often in a group as well.

Behests are the initial group content. Think of them as group tutorials and mini-dungeons which teach you the ropes of working as a team and figuring out mechanics.

Dungeons are group content that require a bit more cooperation and take longer. They are the equivalent to dungeons in WoW basically, with mini-bosses, trash pulls, etc. They offer better loot rewards and give a substantial amount of XP.

Every class also has a hunting log, which you can fill out to level. Basically, you find mobs that are needed in the log (press H to access it) and kill them, you get a bonus when you kill enough for the entry.

At 15, you can complete your main storyline quests to gain an airship pass, which allows you to travel between all 3 cities.

That's the basics for ya, hopefully this helps and you can have better luck in open beta. I'd reccommend joining Ultros server, we have a ZAM linkshell there with tons of active, helpful people to help you out.

I'm glad I was not alone on this one. Maybe when Phase 4 starts I can ask again on the forum on who to contact to get a pearl.
