What will be your first job in ARR?Follow

SMN straight to 50, although I really enjoyed everything I played in the various beta weekends. I'm actually hoping ACN will get at least some healing now, and be the first class where you could choose which role for duty finder, because while I plan to play SMN, I enjoy healing also and wouldn't mind the insta-queues of a healer while progressing.

Speaking seriously, I can't answer this question fairly. My Dragoon is already my first 50. Which leaves me kinda hamstringed in saying "Well I can be taking THIS class up next." But I really have no idea.

Maurader and Arcanist are the other two classes I intend on leveling, but the order and extent of usage I've no idea.

I think I messed it up, I thought I chose DRG but there's none on there yet.

Arcanist. It's the only new class for me now.

I was so convinced to play as BRD, but after trying MRD in Beta I think I'll certainly be WAR. So first I'll stard GLD to leve up to 15 (and because I love Ul'dah) and switch to MRD once I get the airship pass, and then level it all the way up to 50.

Might as well take GLD to 22 for Provoke (as a cross class ability) before hitting MRD.

Oh wow, so I have a question... will it be like FFXI where you have to be double the level of the subjob to be able to use the powers of that subjob (In this case 44MRD/22GLD), or will you unlock Provoke on MRD when you hit 22?

My plan is to start as CNJ because I like the feel of Gridania (was Windurstian in FFXI) and it will be an easy way to take the class to lvl 10. Then I will walk over to Ul'Dah and lvl THM up to 15 and complete the airship quests. Then make my way over to Limsa, unlock and main ARN -> SMN while peppering in playtime amongst all the mages for cross-class abilities.

Also, crafting/gathering when I only have a short amount of time to play and don't want to commit to dungeon runs etc.

Paladin first. Tanking has always been my favorite role to play. After that will be Dragoon.

It's not the same as FFXI. There are cross-class abilities you obtain by leveling the ability's native class high enough. Once you've unlocked it you can equip it on other classes (but you only have a limited number of slots, so you can't take everything). Keep in mind, not every ability is cross-class, and even those that are may have some restrictions (like DoM-only abilities).

At least during Beta 3, there were no level limitations on cross-class abilities. For example, a level 1 MRD could equip Provoke so long as you have already learned it on GLA. I wouldn't recommend actually doing that, but it's completely feasible.

When I started Beta Phase 2 you couldn't pick a DoL/DoH class to start, so, being restricted to Gridania, I started as LNC. I really wasn't that thrilled with combat as a LNC, so I swapped to Leatherworker at 10 and fell in love with the new crafting system. I then had it in my head that I would go full Crafter and forgo the battle classes altogether.

I then discovered that the "you must start as a battle class" was not just a Beta thing, and would be a for reals FFXIV ARR thing. So with phase 3 I started in Ul'Dah as a GLA, with the intention of swapping to Miner/Blacksmith/Armorer ASAP. Then, I discovered how far you had to go in the story to unlock all the basic functions of the game. Well, during my quest to unlock everything, I discovered I really liked battle as a Gladiator.

So, my current plans are to start as a GLA, and actually enjoy it and keep it going, while also crafting as a MIN/BS/ARM. I am not sure which will reach 50 first - whichever is the most fun for me!

Oh wow, there's a lot I have to catch up on, I have to admit I was not watching the forums until I got my beta keys a few weeks ago. Thanks for your patience with me.

You will unlock Provoke the first level you get a CC ability at. WHich I would guess is 5, as when I jumped MRD to 15 in beta, I had 3 CC's available. it might even be level 5.

I'm pretty sure you get 1 CC ability slot to start at level 1, then your second one comes at level 6 or 7... I think. Smiley: dubious

Pretty sure you'd have to be at least level 5, when you get your first CC. (5, 10, 15, 20, 25... etc)

Oh, maybe there is one at level 1. I didn't think there was. And it's every 5 levels. Then when you ... IF you equip a job stone, CC's get dropped from every 5 levels to every 10 levels.

Once you unlock cross-classing the first time, every class starts out with one slot from level one. I used it to carry Protect.

Oops, didn't catch your edit. I'm not sure what the exact levels are, but that sounds about right. Looking at it that way, the slot increases would be at 1, 10, 15, 20, …, 50. Level 5 gets skipped to give you your initial ability.

Definitely CNJ, then WHM I guess. I had a lot of fun with it in the beta. It's definitely slow to start, but once you start getting busy in battle, it's all good :)

Which is actually short for BLAM!

The plan is to do WHM first, since I'll be playing with two RL friends, one playing MRD, the other playing ARC.

I always enjoyed healing, WHM was the first 75 I got in FFXI. Though all other MMO's I didn't enjoy healing, but playing the ARR beta I had a lot of fun with CON. I think it really comes down to the gamepad controls.

Overall my main focus will be WHM and DRG, and I'll probably go towards SMN if I have time.

Going to start as Conjurer just for being able to start in Gridania - then switch over to Paladin and play through from there.

Probably a M Miq'ote LNC/DRG. A lot of the armor on Hyur just doesn't look good (to me). Also I wanted to go PUG but I don't like the MNK AF that much either.

Plus lore-wise and looks wise I think that the M Miq'ote will be great for a future THF/NIN class.

Also I was kinda worried about not being a tank or a healer, but the duty finder made it really easy to find groups while being a DPS.
