Head start is not supposed to give someone a distinct advantage over other people, and those that are complaining are viewing it as such.

Was it ever said how smn will get its pets? Kind of hope it is a one on one class quest, and not just given to us or have to join the high level fights like 11 did.

Did you guys see that Goobbue in Ishgard, with the snow on his back? I thought that was pretty cool, looked like the falling snow was collecting on him.
Honestly fishing kind of sounded like a hybrid cross between what WoW had and What was in FFXI. You need the right gear and bait for the area that you are fishing in, but the fishing act it's self is not very complicated from what they showed.

Seems like the pot calling the kettle black, except that the kettle isn't even black. You can't be disappointed in life if you never have any hopes or aspirations, but that's a very cynical way to live, and frankly, sort of miserable. Calling other people "whiny" or "entitled" because they hoped or expected to be delighted is, in my opinion, making a choice to find a negative attitude where it doesn't necessarily exist. Not every one who is expressing disappointment is "raging" or feels entitled to anything except what they were already promised (or maybe what they *believed* they were promised).
It sounds like you're immune to disappointment because you are already, in your own words, "smugly cynical." If that protects you from having your feelings hurt or feeling sad and that's how you need to be then I guess that's fine, but that doesn't mean every one else is screwed up.
It's like the song says:
"Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool, by making the world a little colder?"
Having passions and wanting and expecting good things to happen in your life is healthy and normal. Being so "cool" that you never feel any kind of disappointment or pain is a method for coping; it's not an ideal way to live life.

I wish the beta was a lil longer, just because I have a couple friends who are gonna check it out. I hope it's enough time to hook them, but I fear it isn't.

Fishing won't affect the economy. 
Early access is August 24th
Cap is at 20 in phase 4 because it's more a demo version of the game.
PS3 screenshot feature will be implemented
Arcanist will be DPS in Duty Finder.
Secret stuff they can't talk about yet with SMN. Pet itself is strong.
Resurrect available for SCH. With 8-man content it will be better to have one SCH and one WHM.
World Transfer Service: Available 2-3 weeks from launch.
Repair cost for gear will be cheaper when it's nearly broken.
Retry feature for primal battles. [:grin:]
Same server, same account, transferring items: no plans [:bah:]
Beauty/Barber Shop: can change hair, hair color, eye color, face paint/tattoos, beard, available in patch 2.1. [:cool:]
Talking about tanning machines for summer. [:oyvey:]
Fire resistant gear/swimsuits: seasonal event similar to 1.x this year. [:dubious:]
And the WHM unicorn was pretty interesting...

The mere fact that people disagree does not automatically mean drama, but telling people to shut up or dismissing them out of hand is a guaranteed recipe for drama.

I am far from alone in my summary of the Beta Forums: easily upset, drama addicted, a place for extremely polarizing statements and opinions. I've found my desires and enjoyment avenues in this game.
And I've learned, through experience, to limit my expectations to what is reasonable. I don't 'expect to be disappointed' I simply expect people to be human. Things happen, dates changes, rarely does anything live up to our wildest dreams, and when they do, they're supposed to be appreciated as something special - not expected as a standard.
It's ok to hope and dream it's wrong to take that into the extreme and then get hostile because you let your imagination carry you too far and were disappointed.

I agree with all of this, but I hope you can understand that not every person who has expressed disappointment had "unrealistic" expectations. Yoshi had said (or been quoted erroneously as saying) that P4 would be a week. People saw a "leaked" promotion that said early access was a week. Maybe it was shopped, maybe it was just some over enthusiastic person who promised something they weren't authorized to promise, maybe it was legit and S-E changed their minds shortly after. Who knows? The point is, people didn't create these expectations from whole cloth.
ARR Forums might be a cesspool (I wouldn't know, I never go there), but that doesn't mean that each and every person who expresses surprise or disappointment on those forums or elsewhere is wrong or bad.
