I'm trying to help my friend figure out what he would get access to from 1.0. He had bought the collectors edition for 1.0, but didn't play it for very long due to lag issues. So he never hit a point where he had to pay the subscription.

As such, I would assume that he does not fall under the "Legacy Subscription Status" for early access. So I'm guessing that he should get the following:
- Free download of the game (doesn't have to buy a copy of the game)
- Free trial access from release until Sep 9.
- NO early access

Does that sound correct?

That is correct. He will also get the 2.0 CE goodies (Warrior of Light helm, Coreul mount, Baby Behemoth minion and Behemoth barding). My situation is the same as his. I wanted early access so I preordered.

So, help me out here.....I got the CE for 1.0 way back when, and was subscribed up until the month after they made it free to play (so like....three months of subs? Four maybe?). Where does that put me?

I know I get the free download, but now I am confus about the rest. Do I get early access and the free trial?

FFXIV was free to play from its Sept 2010 launch until Jan 2012. No one paid a subscription until then. If you paid for three or more months in 2012, you would qualify for the Legacy Subscription Plan and that would grant you early access. But since you bought and played the original CE you do qualify for a free download of ARR and a free trial up to Sept 9.

No.. if you want to pay 90 days upfront you can so you get items asap. If you decide to just play as normal and pay monthy you will get the items in due time. Either way you get the items jsut depends on when.

"Veteran Rewards: various bonuses depending on how long you subscribe. Includes different subscription models. If you do 30, 60 or 90 days there will be thank you gifts such as pointer minion (30 days) and different mounts. Another is a character remake ticket. Black chocobo chick and black cascadier uniform (swimsuits) voucher for 60 days. Ahriman minion and Ahriman mount for 90 days. Will have 120, 180 day subscription models for more rewards. You pay upfront for the time and then you receive the rewards. For example by starting with a 90 day subscription, you receive the 30 day and 60 day rewards on top of 90 day rewards."

I hope you're right, but judging from the notes, it's not confirmed.

This sounds the same as the Rift system they had before they went F2P. You could pay up front for 30, 90, 180, or 360 and get the rewards as soon as your payment went through. But if you paid for 30 every time then you didn't get the rewards up front you had to wait till you paid for enough time.

Well crap, I'll buy a year's worth. Now give me a house.

I think why we aren't throwing a fit is because it's actually a good idea. I am a month to month guy, not because I can't afford more but my work/life schedule is constantly changing. But for someone who knows they will be playing for a while can get the benefits.

We have to remember, this is a business and if they can get as much money upfront then the better for them.

It's a lot better than the Pay to Win models out there, that's for sure.

The investors appear then to prefer instant returns. That supplemental investment model is understandable since investment in FFXIV is not likely drawing their monthly sustainable incomes. I suppose being biased makes me prone to wonder how anyone could quit a game like FFXIV three months in. I'm sure they have done the math and realize the actual turnover equates to a cutoff of three months. Still, I wish they offered a year prepay so I could be gifted a house.

If someone registered before july the 31st (Deadline for Beta Test applications and Beta code registration) can he/she start on the 16th or until the 17th?

Oh by the way, I forgot to mention this person registered according to the deadline but she didn't played the P3 (nor downloaded any client). Is it still possible to play on the 16th?

Probably not, I'm sorry. I hope I'm wrong for her sake though...
