This might become the first time ever that a MMO could convince me to pay for more than 30 days at a time.

DCUO had a lower subscription fee for 90 day subs... hopefully these are ON TOP of a lower sub fee Smiley: grin

That has never been enough to convince me, because I never know if I'll actually be playing for 3 months in advance. But throw in some pets, and logic goes out the window Smiley: lol

HAHA... well that Ahriman mount is enough for me! I'll have to decide between that and the Coeurl one!

Yeah, mounts are the real deal. But wait, you don't get a chocobo for some time... Are they saying that level 1's who pay for 90 days will have access to the ahriman mount right off the bat?

You still have to get chocobo access before you can use the mount.

I like the of idea of subscription rewards. I wonder what other things they'll end up giving out.

ic, thanks!

What I am curious about and haven't seen mentioned is what happens if you unsubscribe then pick it back up later? Do the rewards reset or does it just pick up again where it left off. This is a really important detail that is missing ATM. I'm sure they'll have it worked out by the time subs roll around, but still makes me curious.

I have a feeling it's probably consecutive months to encourage loyalty, but that is really just a guess. I still think it's awesome that someone can pay 30 days at a time and still end up getting all the rewards as long as they stay subbed for 90 days. I was so used to how things were run with FFXI, where it sometimes seemed like the devs were out to get ya, that I almost forgot how good to it's customers SE can be. I just keep being pleasantly surprised by the changes to SE over the past few years.

Not in a mean way. I disagree. I think they will allow a running total. Of course, making it be consecutive is more likely to keep people from stopping the sub if they wanted to take a month off. But That's not fair, making them start over, what if I do this for 15months and have to stop due to... a baby for 4 months, I should have to start over again, that would be a kick in the nutz, right?

I think it will be cumulative but I can see how they would do it your way too. I just think it would be an insult for someone who, HAD, to take a break. I would complain about that. We are all going to need to take a break at some point. I could be wrong. I do agree that SE is on the right track with this game and effort to please us all though. kudos to them.

I'm just curious because I never did any of the stuff to obtain a minion during p3... What exactly are they good for? Do they provide any stat bonuses or anything of that sort? Or is this strictly for aesthetics?

Eh, I think I'll just pay month by month. This doesn't convince me to pay 90 days at the start. I will get the items eventually.

Strictly for aesthetics.

I hope they add some sort of emote functionality to them. I think it would be awesome if when you sat, the minion sat with you. If you used cheer, the minion did something equally cheery.

Oh, it's very possible it will be cumulative, in fact I hope that it is for the exact reason you mentioned. It was just a guess honestly. I'm already planning to sub 6 months to start because of the discounted price, and because I know this game can keep my interest at least that long... heck, I played swtor for almost 2 years with it's myriad of problems... and ffxi for 6+.

Interesting. Again, more goodies being given out. Goodies are always welcome.

I honestly wasn't a big fan of the minions during Phase 3 (them not interacting with you was a bit of a downer), but a Black Chocobo Chick minion? I don't think I can resist that. lol

I wanted a black chocobo so bad in FFXI, and was lucky enough to raise one. I guess DarkTalon will ride again! Y'know, in baby form...running behind me...

I'm curious to know if these subscription rewards are for the Standard model and Entry. Standard lists different prices for 30, 90 and 180 days. The 180 day model with 8 characters for 40 total is the same as the Entry model with 1 character per server for a total of 8. If you can just have month to month with the Entry model (I really don't need 40 characters) and still receive the bonuses after enough days have passed, then I'll be happy with this. If it's Standard only, I don't know how I'll feel about it.

Yea too bad minions could not be interacted with or fight along side of you. Maybe it will be added in the future.

I don't want them to fight that's what our choco are for plus there adding more battle buddies later. What I would love is for all minions to have a battle stance .

I'm getting the PS3 CE - pricey. No way am I going to shell out more cha-ching to SE.

Now, if they were give free FURNITURE, like the beds they showed us, then I'd think about it.
Except for the mount, I'm really not interested in the other items (minions, minions and more minions).

Do the minons breed? I can see the cities being taken over by minos running everywhere. Are the minons smaller than Lala's?. If you have a tall character, I bet you won't be able to see a LaLa's minions.

Minons, no thanks. FURNITURE, yes please.

In WoW, the minions can be used to battle one another now (turn based, no less). Its a whole mini game that you can do as an option while you're out there doing other stuff. I wouldn't doubt if they are considering this down the line for ffxiv. So they may not be totally useless in the future.

Keep in mind that paying for an extended subscription (rather than going month by month) will actually save you money in the long run since you're paying less per month. If you're not sure if you'll be playing FFXIV after a month or two, then it's risky to pay for a 3 or 6 month subscription up front. If I had to guess though, someone who invested in a CE is probably less likely to drop the game after only a month or two than someone who only bought the digital download no frills version of the game.

It was actually pretty fun when I was doing it a while back. The pets are based on their type (undead, critter, mechanical, etc), and have some attacks based on that type. Some have attacks specific to the actual pet as well. It is kind of rock/paper/scissors because certain pets are weaker to certain types, while they are strong to others. Mechanical is strong to beast, for instance, but weak to something else. Here's a YouTube video showing what it is like. This could conceivably happen in ARR at some point.

This is a pretty interesting model and definitely a welcome one. My question though is if this stuff will always be the same for everyone that starts or if eventually it will become unavailable. It would be pretty lame if down the road you'd have to subscribe for 7 years straight to get stuff later down the line.

Maybe they will do it to where they change the stuff available every year or so with some way for people whom start mid year are still able to obtain everything if they so choose. Possibly a 12 or 13 month rotation where if a new player ends up paying for months that go into the new item rotation year they can obtain the items that they might miss starting mid year. They could also give really great items to those that are around to pay for every month at the end of the year.

I just don't think it would be very great to have some awesome item that someone new might want tied to time subscribed. They start playing and then see some awesome mount that they must have but then realize they have to pay for a full 3 years to obtain it. I'd rather see these items be unobtainable than lorded over newcomers. It would be akin to holiday items that change year to year and you have to deal with never being able to obtain them.

I can say with almost certainty that it will not matter which plan you choose. You should be able to get the rewards just for subscribing. It would be pretty boneheaded of SE to restrict this in any way and I can't see them doing that.

What I would really like to see is the other mounts fighting with you like the chocobo. Now how cool is THAT?

I'm not really sure what you mean bu this, but if you mean what I think you mean, lemme explain a little. The rewards will start, progress and end the same for each individual. For example, let's say you are required to go to work for 8 hours in a day. It doesn't matter when you go, just so you go for 8 hours. Every hour, you will be given a reward for every hour you stay. Now someone could have went an hour ahead of you, therefore, as you arrive, they will already be getting their first reward (a signed photo of Justin Beiber). After you have been there for an hour, you will now get the totally awesome photo, but the other guy will be getting his second reward, as he was there ahead of you (2 free bank slots in Neverwinter). You see, the rewards are progression based and not set in any time frame. Hope this helps explain it a little.
