Zam Has Aquired XIV-APPFollow

#1 Aug 15 2013 at 7:18 PM Rating: Excellent
In addition to our exciting news about XIVDB and XIVPads, Zam is also pleased to announce our aquisition of http://ffxiv-app.com 's excellent parsing application. Our very own Icehunter is working on modifying this tool to provide statistics that will be uploaded directly to XIVDB.com. It also provides an amazing amount of data about your character as they are smacking down monsters in Eorzea!

Congratulations Icehunter on joining our team!

Like Final Fantasy XI, the game specs will be extremely high for the time, but in about 5 years, an average machine can run it on max settings with little to no issues. Tanaka also expressed interest in making a benchmark program available.

Google Analytics convinced me to kill my store's Google ad campaign... somehow I don't think that's what they were going for there.

There was some updates to the chatlog structure. Those should be corrected now and parser/logger is up and running!

Unfortunate that you un-opensourced the program.

Personally not a big fan of running proprietary applications that hook into a game.

edit: blar blar I'm dumb this project was never open source

Nobody is twisting your arm. The idea with this app is to do the same thing that Lucy does for EQ or the Wowhead client for WoW.

I do understand the point, but always hate to see open source projects die.

I've been behind this project for 3 years and not once has the source been posted online for the world to see. I'm sorry you feel that way but I can't close something that was never open :(

Hard to keep it open source without giving away how to jack with the XIVDB backend.

I hadn't heard about it until after it was purchased, and you had links to github on your site which are now broken, I had incorrectly assumed the project was hosted there.

Out of curiosity do you actually think you will be able to capture good accurate data to nail down things like drop rates, actual damage algorithms and the like?

GitHub was to track issues and feature requests; and no worries.

Regarding damage algorithm's I parse what the game shows in your chatlog as the game itself handles the calculations. I use community discovered calculations to get damage over time "estimated" damage from DoT skills.

As far as drop rates are concerned the more you kill the more accurate it will become as you have a greater sample pool to work with. :)

Have you ever used World of Logs for WoW?

The logs the game currently generates are pretty worthless as far as I can tell from looking through them. A feature I think would be great for something like this would be the ability to generate accurate combat logs that could be uploaded to a site like world of logs to allow not only for FCs to parse logs to improve their performance, but also to allow for mass data collection on class/job balancing that the community can use.
