Forget being stuck at work... I MAY NEVER GET TO PLAY FFXIV ARR!!!

Wifey not to thrilled about me going back to playing final fantasy... I was not so great at managing my time with FFXI nor FFXIV 1.0 and I pretty much left some hefty scars emotionally that we've since been blessed to overcome. But none the less... I may just have to kiss my gaming life goodbye. Have you ever wished you could keep what you know about the past but change it? Well that's how I feel about playing FFXI... wish I could go back and smack myself REAL HARD and warn old marty... err I mean jayfly about time and family management.

Being in a relationship with a gamer has done wonders for me. We basicly feed off each other when it comes to excitment for a new game or a patch is whatever MMO we are playing. The key thing is, we play together when we can and we make it a point to spend time together IRL doing things like shopping, dinner, catching a movie or simply being together while we both read books that we are currently enjoying.

Thats cool that you can both share in the same interests like that. You must not have kids. That changes with kids. Oh, man, it changes with kids.

Hell, I would.

"Wheel my PC in here...and up my meds!"

Someday the depressing Nursing Home scene is going to be replaced by our generation of happy old retired gamers just MMO'ing their way to a happy end of life. Food thru an IV, just **** when ever you need to. "One sec, bio.. ok rdy."

Well my fiance and I are playing together.... that was also a huge development for me.

First of all she's just amazing, we're both so happy... but we also will play this game together which will make it easy on our relationship because one of us is not just playing by themselves and ignoring familial duties.

If you can get that situation it's the best possible solution obviously, but if not then balance is key.

I am trying like mad to get a new video card to upgrade my factory Dell I bought a year ago, which I am convinced will let my wife play on PC. I could create a character in the benchmark on PC, but slooowly. The benchmark itself never got past black screen. I'm actually putting the video card and her getting to play over upgrading my PS3's TV to a little bigger than 480p and 18 inches Smiley: tongue. If I don't give my kid the big TV and the Xbox Kinect then I will never get any time to play FFXIV.

No kids. We both are of the same opinion on that. Kids cost money... money that can be spent on other stuff... more important stuff... like me. \(^_^)/

Smiley: lol Well there you have it. But really, kids take time more than anything. And give you gray hair. In your ears.

I was just informed that I have to work tomorrow because we have to finish this project we are on... That on top of being at work today for what is looking like it is going to end up being a 10 to 12 hour shift.

That is a kick in the pants if I've ever heard one...but having a job is a good way to continue paying for video games' subscriptions!

I just get off work, come home and take a shower.
Jump on, load up my character from the benchmark, select my class then go to the server list all excited.
"Cactuar NA full please try again or wait for for restrictions to be lifted."

I am pissed, seriously upset.
Why in the hell would you restrict the servers for people who have friends and a guild to play with.

I heard the same for Ultros. Hoping it's a temporary thing.

Many, MANY servers are down for character creation right now as it's highly congested. They are bottle-necking the servers to prevent from blowing them up, which is a good sign (mean's they're gathered far more attention then they thought they would get.)

Brace yourselves, Tomorrow will be worse.

It will be temporary, it's to evenly add people to the various servers. They don't know if you have friends on servers or not, so they restrict everyone in short periods, anyone that doesn't care just goes and makes a character on a different server, and then when the server pops equalize they'll open it. Shouldn't take long.

I actually don't think it will be much much worse. A large number of people that are interested in betas have already been in the previous ones, so if they can manage to spread out the initial rush of people, by tomorrow they should be in a much better position to handle the remaining people.

Tomorrow the challenge will end up being server loads more than character creation. I plan to log on early and not log off all day. Even if I take a break.

^ this. If you plan on playing early access get in when the server opens and don't leave.

Edit: Being stuck at work doesn't seem like such a bad gig right now. Sitting around waiting for a server to open would have drove me bugf@#k.

I think once you are in, you are in. I made my character this morning at 5am on my PS3 and jumped on Ultros. I logged on at lunch again, first try got in both times no problem. I think Ultros may have been closed at the time so don't worry about logging out if you are already signed into the server.

Do you think they just needed to buy more servers? I thought this was the final phase, do you think we should expect these same problems for launch? I sure hope not, the game is way too much fun to let haters have their way.
