Any tips on making gil?Follow

Are the only ways to make gil in the game questing and selling items to other players via the auction house/retainer? It seems most things I gather or craft sell for 1 gil, equipment for 15 or less usually. I wouldn't say I was broke during P4, but I certainly didn't feel wealthy either. Does anyone who played Phase 3 have any general tips on how to earn that cash money?

Its going to take some time for gil to enter the game. No one has much, I'd say 50k absolute max if you played a ton this weekend. But then again, why do you need gil? Everything you need is quested or costs a pittance. Eventually the economy will develop and it will be the same as other games - either level a craft or farm raw materials or crystals.

My whole time during phase 3 the only thing that I actually bought was food and this was at the cap of 35. Would imagine as the cap here in p4 is 20 and the only thing I was buying was food. I would imagine as time goes on and people level up their crafting they will be making a more steady income. You can't expect to make a lot of gil when just starting out, unless you find the hidden money tree myth.

I'm on a legacy server so we all have gil. It's a good preview of how the economies will go on new servers, but so far the biggest money-makers are crafting materials and materia melding catalysts.

I'm a level 50 miner, so I dedicated about a day to mining and learning the system. Grade 3 catalysts are in high demand because that covers MOST gear you would want to meld Grade 3 is really easy for any level 50 miner to get, and I got about 100 in an hour. I made about 70k selling these over the weekend, at 3k for a stack of 3 (1k each). Grade 4 catalysts are for items with an item level (not equip level) above 50, and are much more rare.

Grade 4 cats are REALLY hard to get and require a level 50 miner with great gear to camp in Mor Dhona waiting for an Unspoiled Node to pop (once every 5 to 30 minutes). It takes a lot of patience to do these, so they should be very valuable. Same goes for Darksteel Ores and a few other items that are only obtainable through this method.

None of this matters for new players, but the point is... GATHER! Botany or Mining, go do it. You'll be a hero on your server and rich.

Use teleport sparely. This will eat your gil up fast if you just warp all over the place.

I know to level weaving up to 15 first. Then work on a different craft that I would want to max. Cross ability (Careful Synthesis)

Take Chocobo Porters if you can they are cheap. Leves are good source of money.

I think the main reason I was somewhat broke is because I decided to level crafting classes before gathering classes...just to see what it was like. So I was buying a lot of materials from NPC's and such. Then on the last day of beta I went out and toyed around with Botany and Mining, both of which I actually really enjoyed (Didn't think I would at first which is why I avoided them). So I should be alright now that I have my Mining and Botany at 15+. Thanks for the tips guys

Remember to Return instead of teleporting to your hometown. That helps a lot after airship when you are in some of the other lands. Return is free.

Guild behest give tons of experience, and a huge gil amount the first time around, so make sure you do all Guild behests at least once.

What about cooking? I was thinking that culinarian would be a good job to level... do people buy food at higher levels like they did in FFXI?

Oh nice i was wondering how unspoiled spots work, that sound really fun im stoked. I was makeing some gil doing gold smithing selling HQ needles to the weavers around, i did my own mineing so it would be no cost to me, im lookin forward to tryin the market boreds see how all that works.

Are these rarer nodes something you compete with other miners over, or are they instanced to just you like most things in the game are?

People did use food in 1.0 very often. In addition to granting bonus stats, almost all food has EXP bonuses! So yeah, cooking should be awesome still, but it might take longer to see returns as you wait for the community to realize the benefits.

It was SO reminiscent of FFXI and camping NMs.

There were like 9 miners in Coerthas and the second a node popped you just hear 9 whistles and an army of birds racing in the same direction. They really put an emphasis on gear for crafting and gathering.

For example, I previously had pretty damned good mining gear, but i had to spent a bunch of time in the beta melding perception and gathering to my gear. It became obvious that you'll need 2 sets of gear, as you cant max both stats with melds. With my gear, I had a 72% chance of mining dsteel, and only about 10% chance for HQ. I have 210 gathering 270 perception!

They are the same node for all miners in the zone, but there's no competition. Everyone gets 1 try at the node (which means about 6 mining attempts, based on gathering stat).

The biggest stat is going to be GP. I don't have enough GP to use my highest ability. Additionally, you need to use the 300 GP ability to render the materials "reachable" (they start as unreachable every time) so that left me with only 210 gp to mine it. It's tough!

that kinda sucks i mean dont you think ALL crafts should have some super cool "need level 50 and great gear to camp item that spawn every 5 to 30 mins item)? that kinda stuff shouldnt be restricted to just mining and botany.. id like alchemy to be useful this time around (unlike FFXI)

Thanks a lot man, I'll start this Saturday. I've been looking for a good path forward for making gil and mining seems to be my ticket.

But all crafts have similar * level difficulty items to craft. Some are even 2 *'s. My friend is a level 50 Armorer with decent gear and spent a lot of the beta trying to add more Craftsmanship to his gear so he could actually craft these higher level items.

I find the entire system REALLY fun because you can't just be level 50 and make all the things. You actually need to put in a lot of effort into your gear to be good enough to make the good stuff!


PS: Alchemy is awesome now. They make all the Arcanist books, and they are required to meld for a lot of items.

I concur, teleporting will eat your coin for breakfast and turn around and steal your lunch money.

If you level many classes, you can reuse most of the gear you got as rewards from your first class type (i.e., level CNJ and keep the gear rewards, then level THM or ACN and reuse the gear and take the bag of coin as the reward). Other than that, quests give some, leves give some, once everyone gets to the market place then that will take off. Live it up now though, I am sure things will get more costly later on.

Awesome info Louis. I was curious how the star level stuff would work. So are you saying that all of the star stuff for mining comes from the unspoiled node, or just the grade 4 melding mats?

As far as I can tell, yes. I believe the * is for difficulty above the normal level 50, and the ????'s for location mean it's fro ma random unspoiled node. The nodes can appear anywhere really but there are set locations. For example, the Dsteel was only obtainable from a certain node that popped (always in the same location), while other nodes would spawn and give things like Astral Stone, etc.

I want to do Blacksmithing, Armorer, and/or Goldsmithing, so it seems Mining would be the best gathering class to level. Is it really necessary to level up the other crafts, and are there still subcrafts like in XI?

For those 3 crafts, 99% of the stuff you need will come from mining or the other 2 crafts, since those 3 intertwine regularly. There are the random exceptions, like a crow feather here or a cotton thread there, but it's mostly all from mining. That's the path I'm taking as well with those 3 to start. I do agree that it is ideal to level ALL crafts eventually, as there will always be some gear that requires an oddball craft like weaver or carpenter to meld onto.

All I will say is, mine the CRAP out of stuff like copper ore, zinc ore, and tin ore at low levels. You will use an insane quantity of it while crafting. Like 100's and 100's.

Question. I heard about Weaving to 15 b.c Careful Synthesis is cross ability and 100% success rate. Is it still and is it worth it?

Question. I heard about Weaving to 15 b.c Careful Synthesis is cross ability and 100% success rate. Is it still and is it worth it?

Leather also has an amazing level 15 CC skill. I suggest getting them all. I think it's level 15/37/50 for cross class skills in crafting. All to 15 is the easiest, but Cloth and Leather would be my priority.

I ended without much gil because I had to buy the best gear every time I gained a level, and because I did a decent amount of crafting. I figure I will reuse the gear for other classes going forward and I won't need to buy much so it was worth the investment.

Though I certainly could have saved more gil by not always buying the newest gear because it ended up being given away half the time in quests.

I also have a bunch of items I could profit from but I didn't get far enough to get my retainer because I hit my level cap early on in the main story.

I would think high quality items are good way to go. They should sell like hotcakes in the marketplace.
