Phase 4 Way to easy?Follow

#1 Aug 20 2013 at 11:52 AM Rating: Decent
Something that really drew me to this game was that the boss fights were actually difficult. I remember in phase 3 I wiped plenty of times on my 15 pug quest and the 15 story line quest. This gave me incentive to level up and develop a strategy. When I finally was victorious, I got a really good feeling. However during phase 4, I beat both the level 15 story quest and class quest with ease. I don't even think I used a potion. Why did they change the difficulty? Do you guys think that difficulty will be back at higher levels?

You need less of each mob for the hunting log as well I noticed.

I think the difficulty jump was too high for such a low level. However, I do hope the difficulty returns closer to the level cap.

Could have anything to do with the fact that it's your 2nd, 3rd, 4th time leveling and you've gotten better and know what's coming?

I guess i should of been more clear. Now during the boss fights, you have a npc that heals you to full every couple seconds. Its almost impossible to die. The only way to die is to run far enough away from the NPC that he cant heal you.

I think this is the case, with myself I started on a diff server than my friends got to 11 b4 I got the call that they were on a diff server had to recreate my character and everything I had done before. I still caught up to and surpassed them as I was just repeating what I did on P3. I knew exactly where to go for quests, how to approach fights etc.

Pretty sure OP is right; the poison in the 15 story fight that you pretty much needed an antidote pot to counter last beta, barely ticked for any damage this time around. hopefully they find a good medium.

exactly. Requiring the antidote was a nice touch and added depth to the boss fight. I have no idea why they scrapped that.

Yes, it's too easy. If you look at the patch notes they nerfed a lot of stuff to make it easier since P3, when it was already easy IMO.

they probably nerfed it because so many people had no idea what to do in that fight. kind of a shame, but i an see why they'd dial it back. would have been better to have one of the npcs give you a couple antidotes before the fight for some seemingly unrelated reason imo.

Was it hard in the other phases b.c I had a CNJ in the other phases and all were just as easy. Low level stuff can't actually make it hard.
#12 Aug 20 2013 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
It's easy for sure if you figure out what to do. It's only lvl 15 fights and SE doesn't want to see beginners get stuck at 15 and not making progress. At the end of the day they want to attract more players into this game and increasing difficulty definitely not going to help.

Considering that during Phase 3 there were countless topics in the beta forums asking howto beat the level 15 fight, it was warranted.

Hell, it took me 10+ tries and I'm no schlub.

They needed to make it easier, many classes couldnt solo the solo content.

People can look down on "casuals" and newbies and make comments like "Learn to play" or "This prepares you for higher level stuff" all they want. The bottom line is you can't tell people that are trying to unlock basic game features like Airships, retainers, chocobos etc. "Too bad, you suck!" and let them get frustrated. I would even go so far to say that you shouldn't gate the main story behind too tough a difficulty wall.

There's plenty of other stuff you can develop to challenge players. Plenty of other ways we can use our superiority to lord over less skilled players. Let everyone be able to use chocobos and experience the story though.

Any class could solo that quest. They just needed to pay attention and realize where the damage was coming from (poison).
Stuff like that adds depth to the game and Its sad to see Square-enix dumbing down the game. Making it easier doesnt make the game better. If other people are having trouble, they can easily ask for help. This is a MMO afterall.

Also I understand this is low level content. Its just I feel like this dumbing down will extend throughout the game and thats what Im worried about.

This isnt about being elitist either. Its about a game having depth. I dont want all the quests to be so easy that I can watch TV and not even pay attention while I'm fighting. That isnt fun to me. Fun to me is using every last ability, cooldown, and item to just barely scrape by. That is what gives the feeling of accomplishment. Or figuring out that using an antidote to cure the poison will allow you to survive long enough. Thats another way to get a feeling of accomplishment.

I played Archer during P3 and I found it real easy TBH. Played P4 with Arcanist was a little more challenging IMO.

Having tried it in phase 3 on several jobs you are dead wrong. Marauder even with antidote was a crap shoot (took me 4 or 5 tries). Thaumaturge was impossible. So I think you dont know what you are talking about.

Actually I did the quest at lvl 16 with a THM...and it was even easier than with my PUG. so I don tthink you know what your talking about. Did you know your THM has sleep? and if u get low on health you sleep him til you can use another potion? Oh wait, your probably used to hand holding so that kind of strategy is to complex . My case in point

I died once on the THM quest right before getting to the urn because I had a second add and did not realize the true effectiveness of the sleep spell. Granted, I did not play any betas prior to beta 4 and was also new to the thurmaturge (and even black mage) professions. Since they don't have blue mage yet I thought I would give black mage a go until blue comes around.

It's level 15. Why make a level 15 quest hard? Leave the complex stuff for higher levels not for when you're just trying to get the basic functions in the game. It was harder in P3. And what of the classes that don't have sleep?

He said it was impossible for a THM, i showed why it was possible. Im not going to list how to beat the 15 story quest for every class. Anyway I said this before but I do understand that this is low level content. I am just worried that if Square enix is going to dumb down this quest, then they will also dumb down others as soon as people head to the forums to call it "Impossible". One of my pet peeves is drama queens that wipe a few times and instantly declare the content impossible. Thats not helpful as feedback at all.

Also if anyone agrees with me, here is the link to the official forum thread . Post in here if you agree.

THM had the option of running to Gridania to get Cure if you didn't realize that the poison was the source of the majority of the damage and refused to use Sleep. And with Cure, the fight is ridiculously easy.

It's kinda of a none factor now. If someone wipes a few times they get a boost.
#26 Aug 20 2013 at 2:14 PM Rating: Default
Why worry about strategy and learning your class/abilities when you just gain an instawin boost after wiping a few times.

ACtually I never got the boost in phase 4 because I found it very hard to die. How big of a boost is it?
