I'm looking for a macro to heal my pet without switching targets or to heal and switch back. Thanks in advance for any help.

At level 18 you can an ability called Sustain which sacrifices a small part of your health to put a heal on your pet, and it is more than sufficient for keeping it alive. I'm not sure what the best way to make a macro for direct healing would be though.

I run pegged to the main tank and use macros for all my stuff...such as:
/macroicon "Bio II"
/ac "Bio II" <tt>
/ac "Bio II" <t>
I put both in because if I am solo, it'll hit the first and not have a target of target and skip off to the following macro to only target (and this way I don't have to use another macro or the default on my bar, obviously). I thought about doing this for the mob and <tt> my heals so they get bounced to the tank, but when boss mobs shift off to other targets and I catch the opportunity to top off the tank, the heal goes to the new member instead of where I want it. Pain in the *** if you are trying to spy the cast bar for the boss, but meh... I deal.

Having played FFXI for many years I am familiar with most of the macro commands, but I keep seeing the /macroicon command and don't have the slightest clue what it does. Could you elaborate on that for me?

It shows the icon of the Spell and the cooldown for it.

It is the icon that will appear when you drag the macro onto your hotbar. You can also set it manually in the macro creation interface. If you don't set anything, it is just a grey box, with a capital M in the top left corner of the icon. So:
/macroicon Physick
would mean that the macro, once on your hotbar, would display the Physick icon in that slot.

I must have totally missed this. I always just set the macro icon manually and didn't even know there was any other way! It doesn't really seem necessary to waste a macro line for that. There are usually more lines than you would need per macro anyway, but still.
