Question about jobs and classes. Follow

#1 Aug 20 2013 at 5:39 PM Rating: Good
Alright. So first off I understand that to in order to have a job your base class must be 30 and the other one 15. For example. For a thaumaturge at 30, and a 15 Pugilist will unlock the black Mage job. However it always say base class when I read things. So can someone clarify this for me. For ex.

I start as a thaumaturge. Hit 15. Start up Pugilist. I decide to get my thaumaturge up to 30 and my Pugilist is still only 5. I decide I want to start up conjurer for the cure spell. So I get him to level 4. So then I decide to level up the Pugilist to 15 to unlock black Mage. By doing so and equipping the black Mage 'soul?' It halves my amount of cross class skills but allows me to learn black Mage abilities. (Which are via quests?). Then say a month from then I want to be a healer and go white Mage. So I level up the conjurer to 30 and gladiator to 15. Will that unlock the 'soul' for white Mage?

From what I've read they always say 'base class' which leads me to think base as in the first class you rolled your character as. On top of that, if it is possible then it's a matter of equipping white Mage when I want it and then black Mage when I want?

And I keep being told that white Mage is arcanist and conjurer but I've read conj and glad. Can anyone confirm one or
The other?

Thanks!

At 30 you are given quests from your guild for the advanced job/souls. To complete the quests you must have the job requirements such as THM30/LNC15 for instance. Then you do some other questy stuff and your reward is the soulstone that you can equip to be a black mage. While a black mage or any other advanced job you are limited to using additional abilities from only a few other classes, but you get special BLM-exclusive spells. This is true for all advanced jobs. The quest tells you what you need. You can unlock them all. No limitations other than having the appropriate jobs leveled and doing the quests.

Great! So I can be any job/class (if I have the time be a white Mage or black Mage depending on what's equipped). Is there any credible place to look at requirements for jobs? Every website is contradicting another..

I don't know... the cap was never high enough for us to unlock them in beta. Doubt there will be any reliable info until after the head start weekend.

You can unlock all jobs and use any one of them at any time. You just need to have the required classes leveled.

For a certain job you need a class at 30 (what is called the base class) and another at 15. The level of the job is equal to the one of the base class, so when you grow the level of the base class you grow the level of the corresponding job automatically and the other way around (when you play with the job and gain XP, you're leveling the base class also). All in all, the level of the base class is always equal to the one of the job derived from it.

You can find info in a lot of places (ffxivinfo has... info ^.^ on the requirements) ^^

"Base class" is not the same thing as your first class. The base class for BLM is always THM, regardless of what class you started out as.

Think of jobs as being a special way of playing a class. For example, BLM is a specialized way of playing THM that sacrifices flexibility in exchange for being able to do a more effective in a focused role. THM is the "base class" for BLM. A base class and all of its jobs (since at least one base class has more than 1 job) share the same level (leveling the base class levels the job, and vice versa) and share bonus attribute points.

Well that's great to hear. All cleared up now. That's good to hear but now I have a new question.

Say I'm A:
30 Thaumaturge
1 Pugilist.

VS.

30 Thaumaturge
20 Pugilist

I was reading the greater the gap is between your base class and your additional class is. The greater the experience bonus. Any actual values on that? 1-10 difference 50% more. 11-20 75% more?

As well as what happens if, you're a 30 thaumaturge, 20 Pugilist and 1 conjurer. Will the conjurer make more experience than the Pugilist? So what I'm saying is for the experience bonus is it based off of your first class and then any additional?

Thanks and sorry if I'm asking silly questions.. I'm not too familiar with the way it works and I'm excited to play.

Bump. Still wanting to know if your highest class is what's used as the highest level, or your first class rolled is used for the difference in levels for experience boost gain. See above post.

Thanks!

From what I've read, it's based on your highest level class, which is not necessarily the class you start your character with. I think I read that from the in-game help text that popped up when you got to the point that you could switch classes.

If you really want to know for sure, you could take your starting class to 10, then take a different class to 11, and see if your starting class gets bonus exp (without rested exp bonus or chain bonus).
